The Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) is the oldest and most important square in historical Prague. It is surrounded by historical buildings such as the Old Town City Hall with the famous Astronomical Clock, the imposing St. Nicholas Church and Church of Our Lady before Tyn, and many houses and palaces of various architectural styles and colorful history. It has been a center of Prague's Old Town since the Middle Ages, a marketplace crossing European merchants' roads. The first houses were built around the Old Town Square in the 12 and 13 centuries. Some present homes still have Romanesque or Gothic foundations, basements, or ground floors. The Old Town City Hall was built in the 14th century, and the Church of Our Lady before Tyn was made a little later. The Old Town Square became Prague Old Town's economic and political center.

Vinohrady (Royal Vineyards) is a cadastral district in Prague. It is so named because it was once covered in vineyards dating from the 14th century. Vinohrady lies in the municipal and administrative districts of Prague 2 (west part), Prague 3 (north-east part) and Prague 10 (south-east part), minor parts also of Prague 1 (Prague State Opera and Federal Assembly of Czechoslovakia), and Prague 4 (near Nusle).
Between 1788 and 1867, it was called Viničné Hory (Vineyard Mountains). From 1867 to 1968, it was called Královské Vinohrady (Royal Vineyards). In 1875, Královské Vinohrady was divided into two parts, Královské Vinohrady I and Královské Vinohrady II; part I was renamed Žižkov and part II to Královské Vinohrady in 1877. In 1922, Královské Vinohrady was made part of Prague as District XII. In 1949, the western part was conjoined with Prague 2, and the eastern part remained a separate district, Prague 12. In 1960, when the Prague division was reduced from 16 to 10 administrative districts, the north part of Prague 12 was conjoined with Žižkov into Prague 3, and the south part was joined to Prague 10. Local patriots say that the real reason was that Královské Vinohrady was known as a bourgeois district and thus politically unreliable for the then-ruling Communist Party of Czechoslovakia.

Peace Square (Náměstí Míru) is The central Square of Vinohrady, with a park at its center. The Square is dominated by the neo-Gothic Cathedral of St Ludmila, built from 1888 to 1893 according to plans drawn by architect Josef Mocker, and the Art Nouveau Vinohrady Theatre, from 1904-1907. Every year, náměstí Míru is the venue for many cultural and social events. The neo-Gothic Church of St. Lyudmila is one of the dominant features of the Vinohrady district. It was built according to designs by Josef Mocker from 1888 to 1892. Two 60 m towers with two bells are like hands clasped in prayer. The church is a brick three-aisled basilica with a transept shaped like a cross. Its interior is lit by stained glass windows depicting figures of saints and richly decorated with sculptures and paintings. Vinohrady Theatre ( Divadlo na Vinohradech) is a theatre in Vinohrady, Prague, was build 27 February 1905.

Night Prague????Czech ???????? BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS MARKET IN EUROPE WALKING TOUR 4K 60 FPS

Hello, My Dear’s travel lovers. Today we’ll take a stroll through enchanting Prague and immerse ourselves in the Holliday spirit. Sit back, we’are starting our walking travel.

In the heart of Prague, the Christmas market unfolds like a festive storybook, inviting visitors into a world where cobblestone streets are adorned with sparkling lights, and the air is filled with the enchanting melody of holiday tunes. The Old Town Square transforms into a winter wonderland, a picturesque scene where centuries-old architecture meets the magic of Christmas.

As you wander through the market, the aroma of cinnamon-infused treats and sizzling delights wafts through the air, enticing your senses on a culinary journey. Wooden stalls showcase a kaleidoscope of handcrafted treasures, from delicate ornaments to intricately carved wooden toys – each telling a tale of skilled craftsmanship and tradition.

The centerpiece of the market is the majestic Christmas tree, standing tall and bedecked with a symphony of lights and ornaments. It serves as a beacon, drawing visitors into the heart of the festivities. Children's laughter mingles with the cheerful tunes of carolers, creating a harmonious melody that adds to the joyous atmosphere.

Sip on a cup of steaming mulled wine, a cherished tradition that warms both body and soul. The fragrance of spices, mingled with the crisp winter air, enhances the sense of coziness that blankets the square. Indulge in traditional Czech sweets like trdelník, a delectable pastry spun on wooden sticks, or savor the rich flavors of local delicacies.

The market's charm extends beyond the material, weaving together the past and present. The backdrop of historic landmarks, including the Astronomical Clock and Týn Church, forms a mesmerizing backdrop to this festive panorama. Illuminated facades create a magical ambiance, turning the square into a fairytale setting.

As daylight wanes, the market takes on a different allure. The glow from countless stalls casts a warm hue across the cobblestones, and the magical ambiance deepens. The flickering flames of open fires beckon visitors to gather around, sharing stories and reveling in the sense of togetherness that defines the holiday season.

In Prague's Christmas market, tradition and modernity coalesce, creating an immersive experience that captures the true spirit of the season. It's not merely a market; it's a celebration of culture, a testament to the enduring magic of Christmas, and an invitation to make memories that linger long after the festive lights dim.

Magical PRAGUE Christmas Market - Prague Czechia [4k]

PRAGUE Christmas Market, Czechia.
Prague Old Town Square Christmas Market.

The Prague Christmas Markets (Vánoční trhy) are open daily at the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. A 'winter wonderland' awaits, for visitors to soak up the festive atmosphere, browse the stalls, and enjoy Christmas carols, hearty food and local drinks. The Prague Christmas Markets are open daily from 2nd December 2023 to 6th January 2024, including on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

The most popular and largest markets are traditionally held on Old Town Square, which becomes the main centre of pre-Christmas celebrations. Dominated by a huge Christmas tree selected each year from a different region of the Czech Republic, the market is visited by thousands of people every winter. Holding a cup of mulled wine in their hand, they stroll past dozens of stalls with traditional Czech products, hand-crafted decorations or various types of goodies from sugar-coated roasted nuts to excellent sausages and bratwurst. In addition they can admire a display of traditional arts and crafts, such as sword making, or enjoy the extensive additional programme while humming along to the sound of Christmas carols.

On Old Town Square and also in many other places in Prague, you can just immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit. And you will wish it could last all year round.

The Prague Christmas Markets consist of brightly decorated wooden huts, stocked with local handicrafts and traditional Christmas treats.

Among the wares on display are ceramics, jewellery, glassware, embroidered lace, wooden toys, candles, Christmas tree ornaments, winter hats and gloves, and puppets and dolls dressed in traditional costumes.

While you can find nice souvenirs on the stalls, to take home to decorate your house with or to use as Christmas gifts, the markets are about much more than shopping. There is all manner of local food and drink to sample, a lot of it prepared on the stalls in front of you.
Popular Czech foods on offer include: large hams roasted on spits (šunka); terribly unhealthy but wonderfully tasty barbecued sausages (klobása); flatbread topped with garlic, cheese and ketchup (langoš); chips (hranolky); smoked meat dumplings (knedlíky plněné uzeným masem); sweet dumplings (sladké knedlíky); and pancakes or crêpes (palačinky).

Traditional Christmas fish soup (rybí polévka) is also cooked in huge cauldrons. Made from carp, vegetables, cream and brandy, over 1,500 kilograms of ingredients are used to make the soup each year.

There are plenty of cakes and sweets too, such as spicy gingerbread (perníčky) and a hot sweet pastry (trdelník).

Trdelník (sometimes translated as Chimney Cake) is made from rolled dough that is wrapped around a stick, baked on an open fire, then topped with a sugar and walnut mix. It is delicious on its own, but it can have chocolate sauce spread inside it, and/or be filled with ice-cream.

A word of warning to parents: once a child has tasted trdelník, there is no going back - its comforting, addictive nature means you will be pestered endlessly for another hit!
For drinks, visitors can sample famous Czech beers, such as Pilsner Urquell, Budvar and Staropramen (brewed in Prague).

Alternatively, opt for a hot drink: mulled wine (svařák); punch (punč); hot chocolate (horká čokoláda); honey wine (medovina); or grog - made of rum, water, lemon and sugar.

The most impressive sight of all is the mighty 24m Christmas tree erected at the Old Town Square, which is felled in the Liberec region of Czechia and transported to Prague.

Christmas Tree at the Old Town Square.

The tree is dressed with giant 2D Christmas stars and red and gold baubles, and is draped in a blaze of 100,000 LED lights. It is a spectacular sight set against the dark Gothic skyline.

A tree lighting ceremony accompanied by rousing music from the Czech version of the fairytale Cinderella (Popelka) is performed daily at: 16:30, 17:30, 18:30, 19:30, 20:30, 21:30.

Wenceslas Square also has a Christmas tree, measuring 15m, which is from the Hradec Králové region of Czechia.

In fact the square has two trees. The Wenceslas Square Christmas markets are spread across the top and bottom of the square, so while the main tree is erected at the bottom, there is yet another tree at the top!

Christmas markets in Prague on a weekday: Wenceslas and Old Town Squares ???????? Czech Republic 4K HDR

I invite you to a walking tour of the Prague Christmas Markets at the end of the working day. We will visit Wenceslas and Old Town Squares and walk along Pařížská Street to the Vltava.

Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí or colloquially Václavák) is one of the main city squares and the center of the business and cultural communities in the New Town of Prague, Czech Republic. Many historical events occurred there, and it is a traditional setting for demonstrations, celebrations, and other public gatherings. It is also the place with the heaviest pedestrian traffic in the country. The square is named after Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia. It is part of the historical center of Prague, a World Heritage Site.

The Old Town Square is Prague's oldest and most important square. It is surrounded by historical buildings such as the Old Town City Hall with the famous Astronomical Clock, the imposing St. Nicholas Church and Church of Our Lady before Tyn, and many houses and palaces of various architectural styles and colorful history. The Old Town City Hall was built in the 14 century, and the Church of Our Lady before Tyn a little later. The Old Town Square became Prague Old Town's economic and political center.

Pařížská Street traverses the Jewish Town of Prague, connecting Old Town Square with Čechův Bridge. It is lined with stately townhouses whose façades combine historicist features with the decorative detail of Art Nouveau. Pařížská Street in Prague is the most prestigious boulevard, home to a wide range of luxury boutiques representing the world's most prominent fashion brands.

Prague is the capital and the largest city of the Czech Republic, and the historical capital of Bohemia. Situated on the Vltava river, Prague is home to about 1.3 million people. Prague has a number of well-known cultural attractions, including Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock. The Czech name Praha is derived from an old Slavic word, práh, which means ford, referring to the city's origin at a crossing point of the Vltava river.
Prague has been inhabited by Celts, Germanic people and later Slavs. The construction of what came to be known as Prague Castle began near the end of the 9th century. Prague flourished during the 14th-century reign of Charles IV. As King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, he transformed Prague into an imperial capital. During the Hussite Wars when Prague was attacked by Crusader forces and the city experienced its first decline. The second golden age came in the 16th century under the rule of Rudolf II of House Habsburg, who chose Prague as his home. His court welcomed astrologers, magicians and also scientists, musicians, and artists. In 1618, the famous defenestration of Prague provoked the Thirty Years' War, a particularly harsh period for Prague and Bohemia.
The 19th and 20th centuries were the third golden age of Prague. The population increased exponentially and Czechs became the majority in the city. After 1918 Prague became the capital of the newly established Czechoslovakia. The city was briefly occupied by Germany during WW2 and after the war Czechoslovakia became Communist. In 1968 the Soviet Union invaded the country to prevent reforms. As Czechoslovakia broke up, Prague became the capital of the Czech Republic. In the late 1990s, Prague again became an important cultural center of Europe and was notably influenced by globalization. Tourism became more and more important, and today Prague is the fifth most visited European city.
Christmas markets were first held in Prague in the 19th century, due to German influence, when Czechia was part of the Habsburg Empire. In the 20th century they fell out of favor, as they were seen to be too German. In the 1990's however they were brought back, and today Prague's Christmas markets are among the most recommended.

Christmas markets on Wenceslas Square
Wenceslas Square is the most central, beautiful tourist place with many hotels, boutiques, restaurants and pubs. The sightseeing of Prague begins from Wenceslas Square.
Every tourist who comes to Prague needs to visit Wenceslas Square because here every person sighs the atmosphere and beauty of the capital
The central, beautiful square of the Czech capital. It is crowded 24 hours a day.
Christmas markets in Prague are some of the most famous in Europe.
On Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) guests are greeted by a gorgeous Christmas tree, a scattering of colorful lights, endless shopping arcades with gifts, and baked chestnuts. Christmas is unthinkable without hot and aromatic mulled wine.

Another indispensable attribute of the holiday is sausages on an open fire. On December 5, in honor of the name day of St. Nicholas, a cheerful trinity walks the streets: Santa Claus, an angel and a devil. Good children can get candy from Santa, and bad children can get hard potatoes or coal.

Blacksmiths work at the fair; before your eyes, a rose or a horseshoe is made from metal; you can buy the blacksmiths' products. Children really enjoy watching the blacksmith.
Prague Christmas markets are some of the most popular and beautiful. There are more than 10 fairs in Prague.

It has been a center of Prague's Old Town since the Middle Ages, a marketplace crossing European merchants' roads. The first houses were built around the Old Town Square in the 12 and 13 centuries. Some present homes still have Romanesque or Gothic foundations, basements, or ground floors. The Old Town City Hall was built in the 14th century, and the Church of Our Lady before Tyn was built a little later. The Old Town Square became Prague Old Town's economic and political center.

Prague Christmas Streets Walking Tour - Wenceslas Square ???????? Czech Republic 4K HDR ASMR

It's Monday in Prague today, and it's minus 6 degrees Celsius outside. I can't say it's cold, but my cheeks and hands are freezing. We are on Small Square (Malé náměstí in Chech). It's next to Old Town Square, and we are off to see what's happening with the Christmas Market on Wenceslas Square!

The main Prague Christmas Tree in Old Town Square was lit up ???????? Czech Republic 4k HDR ASMR 2023

Today is 2 December, which means Christmas markets are opening all over the Czech Republic! I will show you the madness in Prague every year on Old Town Square when the Christmas tree is lit up. Honestly, this was one of the most challenging shoots for me. It's snowing in Prague for two days. I had to walk with an umbrella in one hand and a camera in the other, but the most important thing was the amount of people! But it was festive and fun.

The Powder Tower is one of Old Town's original 13 city gates in Prague. Its construction began in 1475. The tower was intended to be an attractive entrance into the city instead of a defensive tower. The foundation stone was placed by Vladislav II. The city council gave Vladislav II the tower as a coronation gift. While it was being built, it was called the New Tower. Peter Parler's work on the Charles Bridge inspired the tower's look.

Celetná is a street in the Old Town, Prague, connecting the Old Town Square with the Powder Gate. It is one of Prague's oldest streets and part of the Royal Route. Although Celetná is a former Prague trade route. The street is named after bread baked in the Middle Ages. It became a part of the Royal Route in the 14th century (The coronation parade).
