More info about traveling the Camino de Santiago: The Camino de Santiago — literally the Way of St. James — is Europe's ultimate pilgrimage route. Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims have walked hundreds of miles across North Spain to pay homage to the remains of St. James in the city named for him, Santiago de Compostela. #ricksteveseurope #galicia #caminodesantiago

Walking the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain ???????? Camino del Norte Irun to Bilbao

Earlier this year, I walked part of the Camino del Norte, a trail that runs from the border with France in a town called Irun all the way to Santiago de Compostela. For 8 days I walked from Irun, along the coast through San Sebastian, Zarautz, Zumaia, Deba, and then into the moutanins in Markina, Guernica, and Lezama all the way to Bilbao.

It was a challenging week, but also a magical week. Walking the Camino de Santiago had a power that I wasn't expecting and one that I have found to be quite intoxicating, addictive even. I will definitely be back to follow more of those yellow arrows again one day.

SCRIPT
For more than 1000 years,
the Way of St. James
has been one of the world’s
most popular hikes.

One of it’s best kept secret’s
Is it’s northern passage,
known as the Camino Del Norte.

Following Spain’s most
northern coastline
lies a path with small
traditional villages,
rugged shores,
and beverages
soaked in prideful dedication.

A path
that takes you in as you are
and releases you anew.

In the next 7 episodes
I’ll be bringing you along
on an 835km pilgrimage
across the coastline
of 4 distinct regions of Spain.

The Basque Country,
Cantabria,
Asturias
and Galicia.

We’ll be experiencing the best
of each region
from the tasty tapas
in rural towns
to the boundless nature
in between.

Some come for the challenge...
And some come seeking spiritual growth,
NEITHER leave disappointed.

Come with me to find out
why they call the Camino del Norte
one of the best and most scenic hikes
of the Camino de Santiago.

El Camino - My Journey through Northern Spain

On the first september 2022 I began my 32 day long hike from Irun to Fisterra. In total 917km of walking. In that time I met plenty of nice people, learned some lessons and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

Since I love artistic expression like movie making I thought it might be a good opportunity to bring my camera to try to make a documentary out of it.
I learned a lot on the process and I'm looking forward to the next creative project.

Thanks for everyone I met on the camino that made this possible by sharing their perspectives.
It was an amazing experience!

I will be happy about a donation if you want to support my work. :)
