Just going around and taking a look at some of the sights on Tinian, of the Northern Mariana Islands. This was actually in July 2021. The Marianas are an interesting United States outpost with lots of WWII history.
Saipan of the Northern Mariana Islands: Part of the USA Most Americans Aren't Aware of
Went to Saipan for 4 days this past Memorial Weekend. It's the island that saw a lot of action during WWII between the Japanese and Americans. It was interesting to see the remaining weaponry, tanks, and buildings strewn all over the island of that time, particularly, unprotected.

33 years after the original residents were evacuated when the volcano erupted in 1981, these five adventurous and committed young people have given up their previous lives to resettle the island and return to their ancestors' way of life close to the land. Saipan is the largest of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. commonwealth in the Western Pacific. It’s characterized by sandy shores and mountainous landscapes, and has several championship golf courses. Its highest point is 1,555-ft. Mt. Tapochau, a limestone peak at the island's center. Close to the northern tip, Japanese memorials mark Banzai Cliff and Suicide Cliff, sites from the 1944 Battle of Saipan.

사이판은 타포차우 산을 중심으로 열대 우림의 정글이 우거져 있다. 울창한 숲 사이로 아직까지 개발되지 않은 비포장도로를 따라가 봤다. 4륜 오토바이를 경험하기 위해 많은 사람들이 모였다. 산악 4륜 오토바이를 타기 위해선 간단한 교육을 받아야 하지만 조작이 비교적 쉬어 누구나 즐길 수 있다. 이런 액티비티가 여행의 추억을 더욱 특별하게 만들어주는 법이다. 자갈투성인 길을 조심스럽게 달리기 시작했다. 역시 ATV는 길이 험할수록 제 맛이다. 거친 땅을 딛고 자연의 바람을 가르며 신나게 달렸다. 섬의 서남쪽 방향은 초원으로 이뤄진 구릉이 펼쳐져 있다. 에버그린이라 이름 붙여진 이곳. 싱그런 녹색 물결을 따라 사륜 구동 오토바이가 줄지어 오른다. 하늘에서 내려다 본 모습이 한 폭의 그림 같은 아름다운 광경이다. 스릴을 만끽하기 위해 속도를 좀 더 내봤다. 물론, 힘들면 잠시 쉬어가도 된다. 언덕을 넘고 넘으며 운전하는 재미가 색다르다.
