North Georgia Gems: Waterfalls, Bavarian Village, & an Alpine Coaster!
One of the best things about traveling is learning about places that you had never heard of and/or never thought to visit. For us, that was Northern Georgia! Our original itinerary (in quotes because our plans change almost daily) never included spending time in this part of Georgia, but from the second we learned how much natural beauty was in the Northern part of the state, we knew we had to go!
We spent one day hiking, visiting waterfalls, transporting to Germany in Helen, eating fudge, riding the Georgia Mountain Coaster, and having SO much fun! This area of the US is truly an underrated gem (we couldn't believe we were in Georgia) and we're so to continue to find more unexpected gems around the US this year.

Helen, Georgia, is an old mining town and one of the most well-known Alpine villages in the United States, thanks to its location on the southern end of the Mountains of the Blue Ridge. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the small Georgia mountain hamlet (population: 582) reinvented itself as a picturesque re-creation of a classic Bavarian village, offering a taste of the Alps in the mountains of the Appalachians. Tourists flock to the area to enjoy river tubing, horse riding, canoeing, fishing, trekking, and other outdoor pursuits along the picturesque Chattahoochee River banks.

There are more than 200 import and specialty stores in Downtown Helen, selling everything from German food and cuckoo clocks to handcrafted candles, chocolate, and Southern-style arts and crafts. The peak season is in the fall, from about the middle of September to the end of October when the city hosts the world-famous Oktoberfest celebration. Helen, on the other hand, has a ton of amazing things to do and see at any time of year. Among some of the best things to do in Helen, Georgia, is ride the Georgia Mountain Coaster. The Georgia Mountain Coaster is an exhilarating ride down the mountain's steep slopes at breakneck speeds and is a must for thrill seekers. As you wind your way along its tracks, you'll see plenty of beautiful, verdant woodlands and get great views of the nearby hills and quaint town.

The Bavarian themed town of Helen Georgia was conjured up by local businessmen in 1968 as a way to revitalize the local economy.
Their efforts worked with events and festivals bringing nearly 2 million visitors throughout the year.
There are over 1,100 hotel rooms in town and 200 specialty shops vying for your business. I spent my time trying to visit some of the local tourist sights. I counted over 30 area attractions to visit. I would have to spend the summer here to see everything!

Hang on tight for this one! We found a mountain coaster in Helen, Georgia and it was the most fun we've had in a long time!! We stayed at Tallulah Gorge State Park which was absolutely beautiful. We attempted a unique hike (Steph and the river didn't get along ????), laughed harder than we have in forever, and really had an amazing trip ????

There’s A Town In Georgia That Pretends It’s Germany // Helen, GA
We traveled to Helen Georgia in our RV. You can tell there was a lot to do in that little town! We loved the German or Bavarian architecture. We road the Georgia Mountain Coaster, explored German culture, tubed through the Chattahoochee River, and even hiked to Anna Ruby Falls.
If you have the opportunity to travel to Helen we would highly recommend it.
Best week ever spent traveling around Hiawassee, Georgia. Staying at the highest-rated RV Park in America, Mountain View Campground. Bonnie & Brenden explored Hightower Creek Vineyards, played music bingo at Hiawassee Brew, and even sang a few songs for karaoke at the RV Park.
We had a blast in Hiawassee and highly recommend staying at Mountain View Campground if you have the chance.
We full time live in our RV. Working and playing from the road. Each week we travel to a new destination to see what there is to explore.

This small town in the north Georgia mountains is perfectly themed as a Bavarian German town, right down the architecture and food (schnitzel!!!). It also has a ton of southern charm and hospitality. This hidden gem is only a short drive from Atlanta, but makes you feel like you are worlds away. We stayed for a long weekend and experienced the amazing local food scene, the beautiful waterfall known as Anna Ruby Falls, and one of the most mesmerizing downtown Christmas displays we've ever seen.
