Incredible drone footage shows Normandy D-Day beaches 75 years on

The archive of a British D-Day commanding officer including top secret Normandy landing maps is up for auction. Lieutenant Commander Bertram Lambert was a beach commander at Juno in June, 1944. He was responsible for coordinating the landings of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division on the 'Mike' section of the six-mile beach centred on the town of Courselles-Sur-Mer. The fascinating documents also include official memoranda sent by top command in the run up to, and after the landings.

Visit the Beaches of Normandy // D-Day sites in France

Visiting the beaches of Normandy is easy to do, with some planning.

The beaches, like Utah and Omaha, all feature museums or monuments to the Allied Forces. They're all within a one hour drive of each other on the northern coast of France.

⏱ Video Timeline ⏱
00:01 Intro to Normandy
00:22 Utah Beach
00:39 Omaha Beach monument Les Braves
01:00 Mont Saint Michel
01:15 Etretat
01:34 Driving a rental car in Normandy
01:50 Directions from Paris
02:25 When to visit Normandy

I'd suggest flying to Paris and taking the train up to the city of Caen. From there, you can rent a car from the train station, or use a site like Viator to hire a tour company to do the driving for you.

It's easy driving through the French countryside. Aside from the cities of Caen and Le Havre, you won't encounter any traffic at all!

Many of us have grandparents who fought in World War 2, and I'd always wanted to go visit the sites in France where I knew my grandfather deployed. While he wasn't part of the Normandy invasion, he flew missions over other parts of France which we also drove through.

Visiting Normandy Beaches for the First Time | 3-Day Itinerary

The best information to get the most out of your time at the Normandy Beaches.
Full Itinerary with Resource Links Here:

3-Day itinerary to visiting the D-Day beaches for the first time:

Day 1:
Arrive in Caen via train from Paris and rent a car.
Visit the Utah Beach Museum, and then the Airbourne Museum in St. Mere Eglise.

St Mere Eglise is the perfect base for visiting the Normandy beaches.
Enjoy the restaurant called, Auberge le John Steele.

Day 2:
Visit Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery and the German Cemetery
Save money by visiting the beaches in the off-season.
We’ve visited in the winter, spring, and fall and enjoyed the sites each time.

Day 3:
Pointe du Hoc + Arromanches on your way back to Caen
These WW2 sites are on your way back when returning your rental car in Caen.

Pointe du Hoc shows the absolute magnitude of war better than any other site.
Arromanches was only meant to be temporary – 76 years later, many pieces of the harbor still remain there today and still do their job of calming the waters.

Now, while we’ve laid out a quick trip for you here, we highly recommend diving into the non-war-related culture of Normandy as well.

Allow yourself at least 3 to 5 days for visiting Normandy. That way you don’t feel rushed and can embrace the relaxed, peace-loving culture.

Omaha Beach Normandy 2020

Omaha Beach is one of the five D-day beaches that the allied forces invaded on June 6 1944. Omaha beach was one of the two beaches the American troops attacked on D-Day. I traveled to Normandy after lockdown to explore Omaha Beach as well as Pointe Du Hoc which is where the rangers climbed up the 90ft cliff's of Normandy. Join me on this travel adventure as we explore the legendary D-Day beaches of Normandy.

The D-day museums visited in the video are the Overlord museum and Omaha Beach Memorial.

D-DAY Beaches Of France (A Motorhome Journey)

We're really starting to wish that we had left more time to see more of Normandy before the weather really turns as there is just so much to see and do. In this video we leave Etretat and drive to the D-Day landing beaches where we stay over in the town of Courseulles-sur-Mer - aka Juno beach - where more than 14,000 Canadians stormed the 8-kilometre stretch between Courseulles-sur-Mer and St. Aubin-sur-Mer on 6 June 1944.
We also visit the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, that honors American troops who died in Europe during World War II. It is located on the site of the former temporary battlefield cemetery of Saint Laurent, covers 172.5 acres and contains 9,388 burials.

Exploring the Normandy D-day Beaches in style

I decided to visit the D-day beaches in Normandy. To visit the D-day beaches I jumped on an old world war 2 jeep to ride in style. In this video I drive through the old city of Bayeux to Longues Sur Mer and Arromanches in between the dday beaches. In Lounge sur mer we will find the old German battery that was vital to the allied forces to take out. On Arromanches we will explore the artificial harbour that was built right after the invasion to bring supplies and more men on to Normandy to eventually win the war. All this while riding on a very old jeep.

Normandy D-Day Landing Beaches Day Trip from Paris

Travel to the historic landing beaches in Normandy on a day trip from Paris and discover the countryside's traditional beverages.

Ride a luxury motor coach from Paris and head to the northern shores of Normandy, the site of the US D-Day landings in World War II. Glimpse into the WWII events where Allied troops fought to reclaim the beaches. As you go back in history, you will explore the countryside that provides a stark contrast from the battlefields of the past. Stop at an orchard and a 17th-century barn for tastings of cider and Calvados, which the Normandy countryside is famous of. Indulge in a freshly prepared lunch before heading to Pointe du Hoc and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. The tour also includes a stop at Utah Beach Museum, built on the landing beach where American troops arrived, and Omaha Beach Visitor Center, where you can be briefed of the planning that took place in the D-Day beach landings. This is a Paris day trip not to be missed!
