We spent a month on the beautiful pacific coastal town of San Juan Del Sur, we were due to head north towards Guatemala for Easter but unfortunately had to cut our trip short and head back home due to the current Coronavirus crisis. San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua seems to be an almost mandatory stop for the traveller on the tourist trail. Some just never leave. San Juan del Sur is located in a big sweeping bar that narrows out in the ocean at the two headlands, and is a small but busy town that has a reputation of a surf town, because of the beaches surround San Juan Del Sur Nicaragua.

One of the things that San Juan del Sur is famous for, is the Sunday Funday pub crawl. We happened to arrive the day before Sunday Funday, but having travelled through Nicaragua, and passed many people along the way, we took info, and unanimously elected against doing it. We did not want to waste money and our days in Nicaragua partying, and then feeling horrible. Instead, we walked up to the Christ of Mercy Statue overlooking San Juan del Sur from the north headland of the town. A steep but enjoyable walk up to the statue offers you a terrific view of the coast of San Juan del Sur, all the San Juan del Sur fishing boats and even a cruise ship passing by the bay, if you time it right. You also can look north from San Juan del Sur and see the beaches up the coast from the Nicaragua town.

After a nice walk up to the viewpoint over San Juan del Sur, we sluggishly moved down the steep walkway back towards the center of San Juan del Sur, managing to avoid the inevitable rain. We found a great cinder block hut to sip on a few ice cold beers and enjoy the incredible sunset of San Juan del Sur.
Going to be in San Juan del Sur Nicaragua, for a few days and then my time in Nicaragua will be ending, and it is onto the rich coast of Costa Fortune!
