New York City Lockdown amid COVID-19 | Life under Coronavirus

This is not a usual video I make but I think it's necessary to give out some update on the situation of NYC during the spread of coronavirus, also for documenting purpose.

New York Governor Cuomo has announced New York city on pause, effectively a lockdown. All personnel must stay at home except for essential business. People can only go out on essential grocery shopping or to visit doctors

And this is what NYC is like during the lockdown

WHAT IT'S LIKE LIVING IN NYC RIGHT NOW DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK - INTERVIEW WITH A NEW YORKER

As a passionate traveler, sitting at home in self-quarantine is TOUGH STUFF! I already miss hanging out with my friends near and far!

It's been heartbreaking to hear about the struggle NYC has been facing with this virus. Earlier this week I hopped on a video conference call with my good friend Megan in Long Island City, Queens to chat about what she is experiencing. I’m so glad we were able to record the interview to post on this channel!

I found it especially interesting to hear her first-hand experiences living (and now also working) in a small high rise apartment in the city. While there is a lot of fear, it also sounds like the community has admirably come together to face the virus threat.

I hope you all find this chat as informative as I did. As someone who used to be a New Yorker herself for most of my adult life, my heart hurts.

NYC Rising

It’s heartbreaking to see New York laid low by the coronavirus. The city is resilient and will rise again. This is a personal tribute, an appreciation of NYC as I have experienced it over the years. And dedicated to the heroic health care workers who risk their lives daily during the pandemic. #nyc #newyorkrising #newyork

New York Travel Restrictions: Restrictions Tightened For US Travellers

New York Travel Restrictions: Travel Restrictions Tightened For US Travellers

New York City puts in quarantine checkpoints and toughens travel restrictions from the other American States

New York, the state once considered the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak in America, has made substantial progress in suppressing its outbreak.

New York City's economy, a 14-day quarantine travel advisory announced, in June, by the Governors of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut for people travelling to New York, New Jersey & Connecticut from states with increasing rates of COVID-19 are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.

✈ In this video:
New York Travel Restrictions Travel Restrictions Tightened For US Travellers

The 14-day quarantine travel advisory applies to anyone travelling from certain US states identified as having a positive COVID-19 test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or have a 10% or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average.

The self-quarantine is voluntary, but compliance is expected.

“in response to increased rates of COVID-19 transmission in certain states within the United States, and to protect New York’s successful containment of COVID-19, the State has joined with New Jersey and Connecticut in jointly issuing a travel advisory for anyone returning from travel to states that have a significant degree of community-wide spread of COVID-19.” New Jersey state

From Wednesday, 5th August, New York City has toughened up its defences from travellers from other states by setting up quarantine checkpoints.

The checkpoints at “key entry points” along the main bridges and tunnels into the city to screen for incoming travellers from more than 30 US States that have bad coronavirus outbreaks.

This includes travel by train, bus, car, plane and any other method of transportation.

Travellers coming in from those states will be given information about the quarantine, they will be reminded that it is required, not optional — Bill de Blasio

A new agency, Test & Trace Corps, is being deployed in teams to public transport hubs like Penn Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal starting Thursday.

New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, alongside New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, issued the joint travel advisory in June, ordering travellers coming from other US states with significant Covid-19 outbreaks to self-quarantine for 14 days.

The original order applied to only nine states.

Since then, that list has grown.

Failure to fill out the form could also result in a fine.

People who do not follow the state’s order can be fined and faced with a mandatory quarantine.

Fines will be $2,000 for the first violation, $5,000 for the second and up to $10,000 if they cause harm.

People from the listed States are expected to voluntarily quarantine for 14 days on arrival to the State.

Other people are encouraged to report rule-breakers.

Although encouraged, but not mandatory, you are also asked to have a PCR test taken.

What are your thoughts?

Could these travel restrictions be the start of the future of travel?

New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are following the examples that Europe have done in handling travel in the age of Coronavirus.

Will we see that these quarantine, exemptions and testing as part of the future of global travel?

For the time being, there seems no other choice.

Flying During Covid! House Arrest in NY! (plus we give you a travel tip at the end!)

It was time to visit family in NY so we took all the precautions we could and took a flight on Frontier Airlines from Myrtle Beach to Long Island. The flight was great and since we booked our seats towards the back of the plane we had space between ourselves and others. We enjoyed seeing family that we had not seen since March and figured it would be a good opportunity to show you how it is to fly during covid! (Be aware, NY State does require quarantine for 14 days if you are arriving from a hot covid state like SC!)
