I am in Iraqi Kurdistan! ...beautiful Erbil!

In July 2017 I visited Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. While the region is officially part of Iraq, the Kurdish provinces in the North of the country make up an autonomous region with its own government, military, and visa policy. This allowed me to visit Iraq without a visa, and without any safety concerns.

EPIC KURDISH HOSPITALITY & STREET FOOD IN SULY | SULEYMANIAH, IRAQI KURDISTAN

This is the last vlog of the Kurdistan series for 2019! I loved spending so much time in Iraqi Kurdistan this year and hope to come back soon.

In this episode, I visit Suly, also known as Suleymaniah, the city that the locals love to call the capital of culture, literature and the arts! Here, I go to the main bazaar, check out the book market and fill my tummy at the Indian Food Market and the night street food market too. We end the video (and my trip, sob!) with a beautiful Kurdish song, sung by my friend Sina.

This was my second time traveling to one of my favorite areas of the world, Iraqi Kurdistan! During my first trip it was amazing to be able to see off the beaten path places like Iraq that are so rich with culture but it was also really lonely. I can now say that I’ve made about 90% of my friendships through social media, one of my best online friends being Drew Binsky. Even though we had never met in person, Drew and I bonded over our love of adventure and our shared goal of traveling to every country. Drew only has 6 countries left and even though the 2020 lockdown has slowed him down, he hasn’t let that stop him sharing more inspiring stories from around the world. Drew and I were coincidentally both in Turkey before we came up with the spontaneously to travel together, for the first time, back to Iraq.

In this video we hit the old city streets of Erbil to try as much street food as possible. After trying everything from kebabs to sour ice cream, we discovered the full range of sweet to sour flavors here in Iraq.

Sign up for my FREE book preview & you'll receive 3 crazy stories from my adventures to EVERY COUNTRY in the world. Check it out:

Exploring IRAQ as an AMERICAN WOMAN: the TRUTH

In this video Chloe Jade Travels to Iraq as a solo female American traveler.

This video was recorded over a week of travel in December 2021.

Sadly, many people in the USA think that Iraq is a completely different reality than it is. The reason for this is partially because of our political history with the country, but also because of what has been portrayed in the media time and time again.

Although my footage is nothing similar to what I would film now, I really enjoyed sharing shorts of this trip. I hope I can somewhat relay the beauty of this country, and why everyone should visit Iraq if they get the chance.

The main video is about 40 minutes long, and there is an 18 minute Q&A at the end.

If you have other questions please leave them in the comments, I will try to answer as much as I can.

Thank you for watching ????

IRAQI Kurdistan (Not DANGEROUSTAN) surprised me! Westernized Erbil

We drove through the rich neighborhood of Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan. I did not expect them to have that many expensive cars and houses.

During my stay in Kurdistan, I did not visit any westernized shopping mall in the first 7 days. Visiting a mall in Iraq was somehow a different experience, since 90% of the people on the streets are men. Dali told me that women usually just go from A to B or spend time in coffees, restaurants & shopping malls.

I also was not allowed to film in the shopping center, unless I got a special permission.

3 BIGGEST surprises visiting BAGHDAD, IRAQ ????????

What are the biggest surprises when visiting Baghdad, Iraq in 2022?

(1) Even though the safety situation has calmed down, there are still security considerations which you have to be aware of.

(2) The Iraqis I met are overwhelmingly excited to welcome tourists into their country.

(3) I got treated nearly everywhere I went - whether for a Careem Ride (equivalent of Uber / Grab), free food at restaurants, free entry into the Baghdad Aqua Park and Baghdad Zoo.

The Road to IRAQ | Chapter 20

A travel vlog sharing my solo nomad hitchhike vagabond adventure around the world. Living abroad out my backpack I explore foreign countries, experience local food, meet people, wild camp, hike, swim and survive on a budget.

Starting in the north of Mesopotamia, I explore modern day Kurdistan and hitchhike across the Iraq border with cigarette smugglers. They are nice but do end up trying to hustle me for some money. The first hitchhike I get inside Iraq is from an awesome dude that buys me lunch and his brother pays for me to get a taxi to the Iraqi Kurdistan capital Erbil where I meet my couch surfing host.

???????????????????? ???????????????? ???????? ???????????????? (????????????????????, ????????????????????????????????????): ???????????? ???????? ???????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ????????????????

???????? ???????????????? ???????? ???????? ????????????????! Though our trip took place just before Covid halted travel around the world, we were privileged to be able to experience this unique part of the world. We realize that choosing to visit the Middle East may seem like a crazy idea to many people, but to us, it's become a normal way of life. And why not? When you know that it's God's heart to go — and He opens the doors with one big YES — it would be more foolish to stay home.

The region of Iraq is spoken of frequently in the Bible. Abraham began his life here before God gave him other plans; Jonah was called to preach repentance to the people of Ninevah, today's modern-day Mosul; and Daniel was sent into exile into this region where he found wisdom and favor from God for himself and his people. Those are some big footsteps to follow!

Though our time was brief, we did what God called us to do. We prayed with and for the people of the Middle East. We had God set-ups in the most unusual places. Our hearts expanded to see as He sees, and love as He loves.

We pray this video highlighting our time in Iraq will encourage you to draw closer to the heart of God. Be blessed!
