Today, I took the bike just after a stormy downpour, and went to ride in two different representative neighbourhoods of the city : Elegushi a popular working class area and Victoria Island the economic center of the African Megacity. This ride will allow you to discover the problems the megacity and its inhabitants are facing regarding infrastructures when tropical rains are falling down.

Tedi Mowu, Muwo, Or Volkswagen is a district west of Lagos on the road to Benin. On this beautiful day in January, I took my bike to go on an adventure on the Nigerian roads. My goal was to go see the coast south of the Volkswagen district, that's what I called it before going there in reference to the name on my map.
Princess, a lady I met at the water's edge during this trip finally told me that this neighbourhood was called Tedi Muwo, Muwo, or in some places Eti Muwo. During a conversation during which she explained her sand business to me, she also explained to me how the coast had been transformed since her childhood here 30 years ago.
As a child, she was able to walk the salty waters of Badagry Creek from her home to Ojo. the water was no more than knee height. Today unless you are an excellent swimmer you have to take a boat ...

Mud and Water in the Serengeti - Tanzania in the Rainy Season

In January 2020 I visited Tanzania in a guided tour. I rented a Toyota Landcruiser and two experienced local guides to travel to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. This was the first time I was not driving myself, in contrast to my other Africa travels. I expected to be in Tanzania in a pretty good time in a shoulder season, well before the start of the rainy season, which usually starts end of February. But this time was different. Tanzania got a lot of rain already in early January, and during my visit conditions got much worse. Many streets were flooded, houses and hotels were under water - and the National Parks and Conservation Areas like Serengeti, Ndutu and Ngorongoro Crater were badly affected as well.
Many tracks were filled with deep and greasy mud or flooded with water. Cars were stuck in mud or water. Just a few days later in early February the local tour operators stopped to bring visitors down to the Ngorongoro crater floor as conditions got too bad.
Luckily, we were traveling with probably the most reliable car in the world: the Toyota Landcruiser GRJ7 Series. This legendary car is the workhorse in East Africa - build like a tank. With hardly any electronics on board it is well maintainable in the African bush.
In this video I compiled the footage of several cameras during the trip through Tanzania. Unfortunately, due to the bumpy roads, some clips are quite shaky. Sorry for that.
I wish I had more time with better weather conditions to enjoy the nature and the teeming wildlife.
Well, maybe in the distant future...
