Best Turkish Delicious Street Food Tour Istanbul kadikoy 2023 | 4K UHD 60FPS

Istanbul is a street food lover’s paradise. The street food of Istanbul is diverse and delicious, made with fresh ingredients and served from carts, peddlers, stands on street corners, street vendors, or restaurants across the city. From döner kebab to lahmacun, street food in Istanbul is an experience that can’t be missed!
Döner is one of the most well-known Turkish foods in the world. Pieces of meat are seasoned with suet, local herbs, and spices, skewered on a spit and grilled vertically, served as dürüm (wrap) or as a sandwich. Originally the meat used for döner kebap was lamb. Today, it is made using a mixture of lamb and beef, only beef, or even only chicken.
Baklava is a very old pastry. Many ethnic groups with ancestry going back to the Middle East claim the origin of this luscious pastry. The historical documentation is not solid, yet there is strong evidence that its origin comes from Central Asian Turkic tribes.

It is also known that during the Ottoman Empire, in the imperial kitchens of Topkapi Palace, the current form was developed. And later, in the late 19th century, small pastry shops were opened in Istanbul and the provincial capitals.
The lokanta serves a very particular clientele whose needs are that of a quick and easy meal at a reasonable price. Sort of like the Turkish fast food, all the meals in a lokanta are pre-made and dished onto a plate to order. The food is held in steam trays which means it is not particularly hot. On the other hand, the norm in Turkey is to serve food luke-warm rather than boiling hot.

Foods in a lokanta are normally soup, rice, pasta, stews, kurufasulye stuffed peppers and eggplants, döner, broiled chicken, and köfte,

Here’s a list of the top Turkish cuisines that are perfect for hardcore foodies. Make your holiday in Turkish an amazing culinary experience by gorging on these delicious treats. $2 Turkish Street Food in Istanbul ????????

What started off as a doner kebab hunt ended up with us trying some completely different Turkish foods.

The popular doner restaurants in the Beyoglu area of Istanbul were too popular and we couldn't get a table. So we wandered the streets aimlessly until I found something that looked interesting, a small 'Nohutlu Pilav' restaurant on a street corner.

The massive glass box display of rice, separated by layers of chickpeas, caught my eye.

I ordered some of that along with some chicken liver and potatoes. The shop made fresh ayran, a type of yoghurt drink that's very popular in Turkey, so I chose that as my drink rather than the cans of soda in their fridge. All together it was the healthiest meal I've eaten in a long time.

@LukeDamant Was saving his appetite for the doner kebab that we were originally hunting for, so played camera man for me while I sampled the food.

The ayran tasted fresh and delicious and had some mint added to it for an extra bit of a kick.

The food tasted nice enough, but wasn't that exciting. What do you expect from healthy food? I did decide to spice it up a bit with some tomato ketchup, which went well with it.

Shout out to the staff of that shop who were super friendly and helpful in explaining what the food was. Restaurant details are down below.

The durum / doner kebab hunt continued. We tried the original place that we wanted to go to, Durumzade, but it was still packed with kebab lovers. So we continued to wander the streets.

Unfortunately my camera was on all the wrong setting for this video. I accidently changed the profile. This meant all my footage was cropped in, noisy, and with loads of motion blur that was especially awful in low light. The result is that all the footage of us wandering the streets, which was just after sunset, was completely unusable so I had to cut it from the final video.

So fast forward about 30 minutes and we found a small restaurant that had lots of tasty looking local grub on display. You see a lot of these places that have pre-made food in trays, displayed in their window, and it always looks tempting.

While I was thinking about which one I should get, the owner's nephew suggested Pide, also known as Turkish Pizza, which they make fresh in a special oven.

That sounded good to me and Luke was up for it too, despite his heart being set on a kebab. We ordered the Kuşbaşılı Pide, which has meat, cheese, tomato and peppers.

Again, the owner was very friendly and happy for us to watch him make the pide from scratch. The doughballs were rolled out into an oval shape, not round like a traditional pizza. There was no pizza sauce, instead a pre-prepared topping containing all the ingredients was added. It looked like a Mexican salsa.

Cheese was then added on top. It looked like mozzarella but I asked and was told that it was a type of Turkish cheese.

The edges of the base are rolled up and covered in egg, giving a nice crust to the pide after it cooks in the massive oven, which looks big enough to fit about 100 pizzas.

Of course the pide was delicious. The owner's nephew asked me to rate it out of 10 and I give it 11. Luke gave it a 12.

We didn't stay for dessert. Instead we decided to go back to the main street in Beyoglu and get bullied by the tricky ice cream vendors. Something you have to do at least once on a trip to Turkey.

Turkish Food Tour in Istanbul - BEST Kebabs of My Life, AMAZING Seafood, and Turkish Ice Cream!

►Check out my Istanbul Travel Food Guide:
►Subscribe to my videos:
►Camera gear I use:

The first thing we did in the morning in Istanbul was drive over to Beşiktaş to eat an amazing Turkish food breakfast at a restaurant called Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu. From there we took the ferry across the Bosphorus to Kadiköy, where we had an incredible Turkish seafood meal for lunch. Finally, we enjoyed some Turkish ice cream, and the show, and had the most incredible kebab I’ve ever had in my life at Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. It was an amazing day of Turkish food in Istanbul!

1:27 Turkish breakfast at Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu - For breakfast we headed to Beşiktaş, one of my favorite areas of Istanbul, and went to a restaurant known for serving breakfast. The breakfast was amazing, and I ate a dish of eggs with beef and butter. The side dishes were also fantastic. Total price - 29 TL ($9.73)

7:40 Boat to Kadiköy and Kadiköy Market - During our trip so far to Istanbul, we hadn’t had a chance to go to the Asian side of Istanbul. So today, we took the ferry over to Kadiköy pier on the Asian side across the Bosphorus. The views of Istanbul from the Bosphorus were stunning. On the other side, the main thing I wanted to do was explore Kadiköy Market, which was every bit as colorful as I had imagined. The fresh vegetables and seafood were fantastic, and I tried a cup of pickle juice.

1 Week Ago in Mumbai:

12:45 Seafood lunch at Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant - Of all the meals I ate in Istanbul, this was one of my personal favorites, being a seafood lover. Not a far walk from the market, we went to a local family run seafood restaurant called Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant. The owners were really friendly, and I ordered a plate of hamsi (which are anchovies), and I’m not sure of the name of the other dish, but I got Black Sea salmon braised in olive oil and butter I think with herbs and spices. It was one of the best Turkish foods I ate the entire trip to Istanbul. Wow, it was amazing.

20:50 Turkish Ice Cream - After spending some time exploring the Asian side of Istanbul, we took the ferry back to the European side, and since Istiklal Street was on our route, we stopped to have Turkish ice cream. You also see Turkish ice cream vendors playing with their customers, but when you’re the victim, it’s so confusing and funny. They have some serious skills playing with Turkish ice cream. Do you like Turkish ice cream?

23:49 Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant - For our final Turkish food meal of the day, we headed over to Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. Ocakbaşı is a type of Turkish grill, and they served all sorts of different meat included kebabs and lamb chops in particular. We also got a bunch of side dishes and they cooked the kebabs and lamb chops right in front of us within the center of the restaurant. The kebab was the best I’ve ever had in my mouth, with an amazing mixture of minced meat and spices. Total price - 100 TL ($33.55). Thank you to David from for the recommendation.

Ultimate Istanbul Street Food Tour (ft. a whole baked potato neighborhood)

Nothing connects you to the heart of a city quite like it's street food. Today we leave the historic peninsula of Istanbul, Türkiye (Turkey) in search of a more local experience.

We start with breakfast, Simit at Galata Simitcisi. This is Turkey's version of a bagel, and is seen all over the city, but the ones at Simitcisi are guaranteed to be fresh!

Next we head up a MASSIVE hill to Taksim square, where we follow the banging of the spoon to an ice cream shop. Turkish ice cream (dondurma) is unique because it is thicker than your typical ice cream! You can chew it! Be warned to ask for prices before ordering. We forgot to ask before we ordered, then were served two ice creams instead of one despite Ivan's protests. He even quoted us $2 more than we paid, but Ivan said no that doesn't sound right and he pulled out a hidden piece of paper with marked prices that showed $2 less. Trickery is part of the Turkish ice cream experience, and the show is a good time, but this isn't really the best version of the ice cream. Before we leave Turkey I want to try the more gourmet Turkish ice cream to give it a fair chance.

Next we eat lamb intestine sandwiches (kokorec) at Mercan Kokorec. This chain is all over the city, and this street food is immensely popular. We wound up here just by following a long line of locals!

I (Madison) am not a mussel fan, but I knew that street food stuffed mussels (midye dolma) were a snack that Ivan needed to try! Midyeci Ahmet is THE SPOT for these mussels, known all over social media and throughout the city, and they were SO delicious that Ivan ordered more despite how much we're eating today!

Our last stop is Maya Kumpir in Ortaköy, a neighborhood KNOWN for it's street food potatoes. What I didn't fully realize is that meant there would be over 30 potato vendors in one block! They stuff those things full, we got ours with everything and it was absolutely delicious. Eating these ridiculous potatoes next to a beautiful mosque with a view of the bridge between Europe and Asia, is a strange, incredible experience that I won't soon forget.

Thanks for joining us! We’re so thankful you’re along for the journey with us!

???? WATCH Level 9999 Street Food in Turkey:

The street food in Izmir, Turkey, is extremely delicious, and one of the most popular late-night snacks is kokoreç. Kokoreç is made of both the large and small intestines of lamb, wrapped around a spit and roasted until juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.

One of the more unique and extreme ways of cooking kokoreç is in a well, or underground oven. In this way many kokoreç can be cooked at once, making for some extreme street food.

We were lucky enough to get invited to watch the whole extreme process of the cooking of kuyu kokoreç offsite in the underground ovens. Afterwards we headed to the shop, Kuyu Kokoreç, to get a taste of this extremely special kokoreç and see how a kokoreç shop is run, here in Izmir, Turkey.

We hope you enjoy this special video on the extreme street food here in Turkey of the underground oven kuyu kokoreç. We can’t wait to share more street food tours with you from Izmir, Turkey.

???? How we book our travel:

???? About us: Our names are Craig & Rayna and we were recently travelling around Southeast Asia pre-COVID, we unfortunately had to cut our travels short, we decided that we still wanted to chase our dreams so over a year and a half saved more money to be able to travel again. We booked that one way ticket to Greece and plan to travel for as long as we possibly can! A little bit of luxury, a little bit of budget & a whole lot of travel!
