Grizzly Kills Bull Elk In the Yellowstone River, Hayden Valley, Sept.18, 2020
Yellowstone Grizzly 791 charges Elk. At first light this morning I pulled over noting a Bull Elk with a few cows in the upper right of the meadow depicted in the opening photograph. I was startled moments later by a Bull Elk running into the Yellowstone River pursued by a large Grizzly Bear. The Grizzly was successful in taking down the Bull Elk after only a few minutes, but it worked for around a half an hour to redirect it to the far side of the river and secure it on the east bank, about one- hundred yards downstream from the north end of Hayden Valley.

Elk Herd Bull & Cows Running Montana Wildlife Animals Video Bulls Elk Herds Wild Game On the way back to Montana and seen this huge herd of elk on the side of the road and just had to stop and video it. There most have been over a 100 head and had a good mix of bull and cows. Something spooks them and they take off running and you can see just how many there are when they get spread out. They know exactly when hunting season is over too. It just ended a few weeks prior to this. They are not dumb.

Huge Elk Herd in Rocky Mountain National Park
This video of a huge herd of Elk was taken in the Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, Colorado. These Elk were specifically seen on Eagle Cliff Mountain and viewed from Bear Lake Road in the National Park. If you were standing on the top of this mountain you would see Estes Park on the other side.
Elk are one of the largest members of the deer family. Large males are called bulls and can weigh several hundred pounds and stand five feet tall at the shoulder. Females are called cows and are roughly half that size. A dark brown mane, light-brown bodies and white rumps characterize both genders. They grow a thicker coat of hair each winter which they shed each spring. Only the males have antlers, which grow in the spring and drop each winter. Their antlers can grow up to an inch a day! They are covered with a protective layer of velvety skin. When the antlers are fully grown, the bulls scrape this layer off.

Elk Herd behind our home in Park City. There is one large bull with about 20 cows. There are tow other young bulls hanging around and fighting a little. It looks like they want to see if they can grab a cow.
