Join us for 4 days in Madeira, an island in Portugal, which is a 2 hours flight from Lisbon. We visit Funchal, the islands capital, the local farmers market, some stunning botanical and tropical gardens, ride the cable car, and go on two beautiful hikes. One across a bunch of waterfalls known as PR6 - Levada das 25 Fontes and the other, known as PR1 - Pico do Arieiro, a hike which is best seen at sunrise. Madeira Island Portugal (225 min. 4K)
Madeira is one of the Portuguese islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It belongs to the Archipelago, which also includes Porto Santo and the uninhabited islands of Desertas and Selvagens.
The archipelago lies about 685 km from the coast of Africa, about 970 km from Lisbon, 370 km from Gran Canaria and 770 km from the island of Santa Maria, the closest island of the Azores.
We spent three weeks on this beautiful island and tried to see as much as possible during our stay. We drove 1400 km by car. and walked about 300 km. This small island captivated us with the beauty of nature and what the inhabitants built on it. Despite such a difficult terrain, roads and hiking trails (especially along the levadas) reach almost everywhere and you can usually move comfortably on them.

Is Madeira the Hawaii of Europe? We spent about a week in Funchal, Madeira and had the most magical time. We're sharing where to stay, how to get around, hiking spots, food tours, dolphin tours, and all other things you should do there. We went during the Madeira Flower Festival so we got to enjoy the beauties of that as well. We had the absolute best time and cannot wait to go back!
