Machu Picchu from a DJI Phantom w/ GoPro Hero3 HD
Using a DJI quadcopter and our GoPro HD Hero3 we recorded shots from the top of Wayna Picchu.
For those who ask about the shaky footage, recall this is from 2013 (as the date published states)! This was done with the DJI Phantom ONE (before gimbal) along with a GoPro Hero3. Of course the footage would be nicer with today's technology. Enjoy the only visitor drone footage of Machu Picchu!

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel, located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru, on a 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) mountain ridge. Machu Picchu, Peru 4K
Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was constructed as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often mistakenly referred to as the Lost City of the Incas (a title more accurately applied to Vilcabamba), it is the most familiar icon of Inca civilization. The Incas built the estate around 1450 but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Although known locally, it was not known to the Spanish during the colonial period and remained unknown to the outside world until American historian Hiram Bingham brought it to international attention in 1911.
Machu Picchu was built in the classical Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its three primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed in order to give tourists a better idea of how they originally appeared. By 1976, thirty percent of Machu Picchu had been restored and restoration continues.
Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historic Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll.
Machu Picchu (kečuánsky Machu Pikchu – Starý vrch) jsou ruiny předkolumbovského inckého kultovního města v peruánských Andách. Nacházejí se na horském sedle 400 metrů nad řekou Urubamba v nadmořské výšce 2430 m n. m., asi 80 km severozápadně od Cuzca. Předpokládá se, že Machu Picchu nechal postavit Pachacútec Yupanqui (1438 až 1472), Inkové začali město stavět okolo roku 1430. Město bylo později opuštěno a zcela zchátralo, i když bylo místním známo, pro zbytek světa upadlo v zapomnění. Ruiny objevil 24. července 1911 americký archeolog z Yaleovy univerzity Hiram Bingham. Inca Trail 4 day trek to Machu Picchu Peru Short Version (GoPro HD)
My full 40 minute account of this amazing experience is a little bit heavy for some, so here's a quick summary in just over 3 minutes.
Hopefully this video gives you a good feel of the 4 day hike with along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
We were so well cared for, from the super informative and personable tour guides Enrique and Jesus, through to the amazing team of porters, carrying everything, including the kitchen sink, setting up camp and providing absolutely superb food every step of the way.
Every day hiking was enjoyable, with some great views and plenty of Inca sites en route to the main event.
Day 1 was fairly gentle, walking alongside the river for a good portion of the day, with only a fairly short, sharp climb to note.
Day 2 ascending (and descending!) Dead Woman's Pass was without doubt the toughest day physically. Camping at that highest spot gave excellent views through the mountains, up at a perfectly black night sky, but also made for a cold night in the tent!
Day 3 was the longest hike, but had some of the prettiest views walking up through the cloud forest and through natural tunnels in the rocks.
Day 4 was our early start to push to get to the sun gate before sunrise. A fairly easy walk, with only the 'monkey steps' to worry about. Get on all fours and it's no problem. We were greeted by a perfectly clear view of Machu Picchu and witnessed the rare sight of the sun rising at the sun gate over this legendary attraction.
I've got loads of still images to work into this video, but just couldn't wait to share this with anyone thinking of booking the Inca Trail experience. Despite a great deal of prep material and checklists from GAdventures, there's still nothing like seeing it from a first person perspective to get an idea of what you should expect.
