Believe it or not, my mom has never had Vietnamese food! I teamed up with Vietglish Fun and Vietglish Food for this little adventure at SaigonView. Originally, we planned to have a handful of dishes, but SaigonView decided to surprise us with a whole lot more! My mom even got to try fermented shrimp paste, blood, fish sauce and some of the special foods that are commonly found in Vietnam. I hope you guys enjoy this!

I love Thit Kho or in English, caramelized pork and egg. I know this Vietnamese dish is popular during Tet (Lunar New Year) but it's something I enjoy all year round. I think it's traditionally Vietnamese food but I could be mistaken. I've had this dish 100's of times and wanted to try and cook it over an open fire. It's not too difficult to cook, but over an open fire does make it a lot harder. If you're a fan of Vietnamese food/Vietnamese cuisine you got to try this!
Tôi yêu món Thịt Kho Trứng (Caramelized Pork & Egg). Tôi biết đây là một món truyền thống của Việt Nam ngày Tết Cổ Truyền, nhưng đối với tôi mùa nào ăn món này cũng tuyệt. Tôi đã ăn món này cả trăm lần và hôm nay mới xắn tay nấu thử trên bếp củi xem sao. Cũng không khó nấu, nhưng nhóm lửa nấu củi làm việc nấu ăn khó hơn rất nhiều... Nếu bạn là một fan chính hiệu của ẩm thực Việt Nam, chắc chắn nên thử món này!

Vietnam's cuisine is diverse with all sorts of fun things to eat. In the South of Vietnam, you can find rat and mice meat at some restaurants. However, I took it upon my self to set traps and cook the rat. My dog, which is a dachshund, and I often share food, so, I thought she could join me for the video. I've done this before with my friends Van and Quy and the rat meat was great! Learning new skills in Vietnam is a top priority of mine and doing it myself, is the best way to learn. I plan to catch more rats and cook them with different recipes. I really enjoy rat meat or mice meat. Hope you guys liked the video!
Ẩm thực Việt Nam cực kỳ phong phú với nhiều thứ rất ngầu để ăn. Ở những nhà hàng miền Nam, bạn có thể tìm thấy thịt chuột, chuột đồng. Tuy nhiên, tôi đã tự thân vận động, tự lăn vào bếp: tự đặt bẫy và tự chế biến luôn. Chú chó của tôi, giống Dachshund, cũng muốn ăn nên tôi nghĩ sẽ quay phim với nó luôn. Tôi đã ăn chuột vài lần với Vạn và Quy và thịt chuột rất ngon! Học hỏi kỹ năng mới ở VN là việc quan trọng nhất của tôi và để học nhanh nhất chỉ có tự làm. I'm still not sure how the Vietnamese translate to English. It might be called a Vietnamese meatloaf or something different. But the key ingredient to this is fermented snakehead. If you plan to make it, you'll need this. Overall, I'm really happy with how this came out. It didn't look that appetizing, but it sure tasted good!
Tôi vẫn chưa biết Mắm Chưng dịch ra Tiếng Anh như thế nào, có người gọi là Meatloaf (Ổ thịt xay) kiểu Việt Nam nhưng nguyên liệu không thể thiếu là Mắm Cá Lóc. Dù sao thì tôi cũng rất vui vì làm món này thành công, tuy nhìn không đẹp mắt nhưng rất ngon!

The war or battle of the rats has begun... But seriously, if anyone has tried having a garden with a rat problem you'll understand how I feel. Since they kept eating my garden, I decided to eat them! On a side note, if you've never eaten rat, they taste quite good.
