London to Paris by BUS for £29: What's Flixbus like?

Flixbus is a budget bus operator which has a popular London to Paris route. I decided to check it out and fire up some nostalgia - I'd last been on a bus on the Dover to Calais ferry as a schoolboy visiting the battlefields of France and Belgium! What did I make of it? Find out....

PARIS TO LONDON via DFDS NIGHT FERRY and FLIXBUS

Who in their right mind would want to travel on a bus between Paris and London when you could use Eurostar in a fraction of the time? 9 hours and 45 minutes of overnight travelling, customs and immigration at Calais and a smooth entry at Dover. It was actually a very interesting adventure although zero sleep was achieved. Flixbus mainly used the Eurotunnel route, but if you check the timetable, you will find a small number operate on the DFDS ferry between Calais and Dover, including the night ferry.

London to Paris by Bus and ferry for £25 only | Budget Travel from London to Paris |

Budget travel idea from London to Paris by Bus and ferry. This is one of the cheapest way to reach Paris from London.
Bla Bla bus is one of the budget bus operators. During the Easter holidays, the flight and train tickets were too high, so decided to book our trip by Bus. Although our journey was long it was one of the most thrilling experiences.
To our surprise, we crossed the English Channel on the ferry or you can say mini cruise... hahaha. Breakfast was included and we also got access to the duty-free section. The view from the upper deck was incredible. And the good thing was we just paid £25 for all this. Isn't this amazing.

Is the London To Paris Train Worth It? | Full Time Travel Family

This Full time travel family answers the question: Is the London to Paris train worth it?

As you can tell, we weren’t happy with the process, so let’s start there with our cons.

We had anticipated that a train station would be less stressful than an airport, but this proved to be wrong. Standing in the line up with all our luggage and our kids for 2 hours wasn’t pleasant. At airports we have the ability to check in online and have generally had an easier time going through security… although they look remarkably the same… and to then be able to sit in a waiting area before we board. This long line up would have been a challenge for anyone who had a hard time standing for long periods of time.
Con #2: The train was more expensive than a flight.
Con #3: Departure time reliability.
Con #4: No wifi.
Con #5: The views weren’t great.

Onto the pros:
Pro #1: More room in the seats.
Pro #2: Walkability while the train moves.
Pro #3: Arrival was pretty easy.

So, would we take the train again? No.

If you want to experience the underground channel tunnel, then we have a few tips to help make it a smoother experience:

Knowing what you’re getting yourself into will help set expectations. Prepare for long line ups and delayed departures and if that doesn’t happen, then it’s a bonus.
Don’t take the train on a Saturday. That was a big mistake on our part. Mid week would likely be much closer to the experience we had hoped for.
Pack food. The food on the train is expensive (much like a flight) and so having your own snacks will save you money.
If you take the train on a weekend, then come 2 hours early so that you can spend more time waiting in the train than in the line up.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Also, dress warmly if the weather is cool/cold.
Go to the bathroom before you line up and have entertainment for the kids in the line up if possible.
Like most transportation experiences, the less luggage the better… and with wheels. We have a link below to the carry-on sized luggage we’ve been using. It’s not pricey and it’s durable.

In the end, it was nice to give our son an experience on a fast train, we just wish we had done it on a different day or perhaps on a train without the need for going through security and customs.

Let us know in the comments below if you think you’ll choose to try the train or take a flight?
