Life At Sea In The Merchant Marine Aboard A Cargo Ship
Over 90% of the world's trade is carried by sea. Follow along a day in the life of a cargo ship Deck Officer aboard the Maersk Montana as the ship prepares to set sail from Charleston, South Carolina for Houston, Texas. The container ship has finished cargo operations but the channel has been closed due to dense fog. As the 0400-0800 and 1600-2000 watch officer, I will take you along my day as I stand a foggy port watch in the morning, and navigational bridge watch in the evening. See the various meals we eat onboard, the cabin accommodations, and some of the shipboard operations that take place as we set sail from Charleston.

Travelling on a CARGO SHIP across the Caspian Sea (stuck for 7 DAYS!)
Travelling by cargo ship across the infamous Caspian Sea, sound good? Well, this has been a dream of ours for as long as we can remember! With Kazakhstan reopening her land and maritime border, we headed to port of Baku, in Alat, Azerbaijan to try and see if we could hitch a ride on one of the Cargo ships that travel across the Caspian Sea to Kuryk, near Aktau, in western Kazakhstan. It was an incredible experience to feel this unique way of travel and take a look inside the life of truck drivers, cargo ship workers and more broadly, life on a container ship.

Bonded stores are available for purchase at the Slop Chest which is opened weekly when the ship is in International Waters and therefore tax-free.
