Welcome to Beirut, Lebanon. The capital of Lebanon is widely known for its beauty. It is often dubbed, the Paris of the Middle East. Lebanon in general is one of the worlds oldest, diverse and most beautiful countries. This nation, located in the cradle of civilisations and home to some of the most historical places on Earth, has endured multiple different empires and rulers, from the Ottomans, to the French and Phoenicians, each leaving their mark to make this one of the richest countries on Earth.
However, modern Lebanon is a country in the midst of a deep crisis. A hyperinflation crisis has caused the currency (the Lebanese Pound / Lira ) to collapse, and many local people to lose pretty much everything they had. Overnight, many peoples savings just, disappeared. This, coupled with the ongoing aftermath & effects of 2020 Beirut Port Explosion, a dispute between the government and religious sectors of the time zone, and multiple revolutions has driven this great country to the verge of catastrophe.
We came to Beirut to experience the beauty to this wonderful city, the hospitality, the nightlife and of course the cuisine, but, upon arriving, we couldn't escape the reality of what is happening here. So, this is the reality of life in Lebanon in 2023. It is shocking, angering and heart-breaking in equal measure.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and YouTuber who's been to 53 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017. So far, my trips have taken me to Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.

I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This trip marked the start of my efforts to make a YouTube full-time job.

After that European trip I went heavily into exploring Asia, visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan (seeing me cover a lot of Far East and Southeast Asia in particular).

I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Palestine.

To date, I have not yet been to Australasia or South America. Though I am hoping to visit the latter sometime in 2022, along with a first stop in the Caribbean.

I've travelled to North America just once as a YouTuber, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.

In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting both Kenya and Tanzania, before making my way to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai on my way to Lebanon.

Lebanon: Worsening living conditions spark more protests

In Lebanon, crowds have been blocking roads in several cities to protest against worsening living conditions.
The country is facing a severe economic crisis and the local currency is in freefall.
There are also widespread accusations the government has failed to provide a social safety net for the poor after removing subsidies.

The World's Most Confusing Currency (IRAN)

✅ SUBSCRIBE for more travel videos:

One of my favorite things to do whenever I enter a new country (like Iran) is analyze their currency situation, exchange rate, and how these things affect their economy.

I’ve handled many inflated currencies over the past few years -- such as the Indonesian RUPIAH and Vietnamese DONG — but here in Iran, the RIAL gets a lot more confusing than inflation.

Iran has 2 different systems to count their money. The first is RIALS (the official Iranian currency), and the second is TUMAN (which is like the Rial, without the last zero). As a traveler, you don’t know which price is listed unless you ask. $1 USD = 50,000 Rials and that same $1 dollar = 5,000 Tuman. Sound confusing? ... It is!

Moreover, the only way to get money in Iran as a tourist is by bringing lots of cash (USD or Euros is preferred) and then exchanging it for Iranian Rials when you arrive. The reason is that there are no ATMs in Iran that cater to foreign banks.

If you are as confused reading this as I am typing it out, then this video will explain the confusing world of the Iranian Rial a little better.

Just curious, did you know anything about this before I made this video? Please share your thoughts on this below! And special thanks to G Adventures for hosting me on this life-changing trip!

10 Things NOT To Do in Lebanon!

For a nation on the border of Syria and Israel, you might expect some possibility of danger when visiting Lebanon. You'd be right. If you want to maximize your chances of having a pleasant vacation, here are some things not to do on a Lebanese holiday.

1. Don’t Be Afraid!
The people in Lebanon are perfectly friendly and the country is filled with gorgeous landmarks and fascinating history. Just relax and enjoy yourselves.

2. Make Sure to Dress Appropriately
Lebanon is a pretty conservative Arab country. Men and women are expected to avoid wearing anything more revealing than short-sleeves and shorts. Make sure your clothing is loose-fitting; women should consider covering their heads as well.

3. Don’t Just Stay in Beirut
Lebanon has some really gorgeous locations outside its most popular tourist spot. The people are generally hospitable and warm, and you can’t really say you’ve experienced true Lebanese culture until you’ve experienced something beyond Beirut.

4. Don’t Get Into a Taxi Without Agreeing on a Price
Some tourists have complained that they were “taken” by cab drivers when they couldn’t agree on a final price. Avoid this by telling the cabbie where you’re going and agreeing on a price before you get in the car.

5. Don’t Forget that ‘Traveler’s Diarrhea’ Is a Real Thing
If you’ve never traveled to a developing nation, you should be aware that your first-world immune system might take a small hit … like, right when you land. Sometimes the jolt to your bowels hits quickly but it’ll pass quickly, don’t worry.

6. Don’t Take Pics of the Military
You can look at their installations, but your best bet is to simply keep your eyes on the beautiful scenery, not on the men trying to defend it.

7. Stay Away from Dahiyeh
The world famous suburb in southern Beirut has attracted lots of attention. Don’t go see it for yourself. The residents of Dahiyeh are just suburbanites who don’t appreciate being gawked at by some leering tourist.

8. Don’t Skip the Street Food
Lebanon is known for its scrumptious street food. There are several excellent meals served on a street corner, so if you’re just sticking to the glitzy restaurants, then you’re missing out on an integral part of Lebanese culture.

9. Don’t Take Pictures of the Locals Without Permission
There’s not some old world spooky superstition attached to this one, it’s just rude. How would you feel if you were walking down the street and a group of people wearing traditional Arab garb started taking pictures of you?

10. The State Department’s Opinion
Earlier in the year, the Department of State issued a clear warning to avoid travel to Lebanon thanks to political upheaval, skirmishes and other threats. In fact, the State Department has said that it cannot guarantee its ability to transport US citizens out of the country should the situation worsen.

In this video, I try to demonstrate some of the daily struggles the Lebanese people are experiencing on a daily basis. The Lebanese currency has diminished in value over 10-fold. Grocery prices are irrationally expensive, electricity is out most of the day, long lines on gas stations due to fuel shortage, pharmacies are missing most of the drugs, and banks have no liquidity to give depositors their money. Those are just some of the many struggles the people in Lebanon are living on a daily basis.

This STORE CASHIER invited me on a road trip

It's impossible not to make friends in Lebanon. I recently got invited by the store cashier, Nader to visit Southern Lebanon and the Olive Oil factory that his dad own. It was my first time to the South of Lebanon!

NORWEGIAN traveling to LEBANON during the worst economical CRISIS in history #lebanon #norwegian

Beirut, Lebanon. 4th of August 2020, there was a huge explosion at Beirut's port causing more than 200 deaths and 7000 injured. This alongside political corruption for 20 pluss years were main causes for an upcoming extreme economical collapse for the country once called Switzerland of the Middle East.

I am a guy who is very easily fascinated by the world, and I wanted to see the situation in the country with my own eyes. So I decided to go there and feel the local vibe of the country. Before the trip, I did so much research, and prepared a lot, for instance it's first time I travel without a credit card (only US Dollar).

During the time of the crisis, you need to be aware that visa or credit cards barely works, and if they work, you will walk into a trap as the government has put a fixed rate on the local currency eventhough the currency is in complete freefall.

Most of the local businesses happens through trade using the black market rate which in reality sounds much more scetchier than it actually is. For instance Western Union operates as black market, but in reality it's not black market in the way it sounds like. It's practically the way trading works in the country these days.

I hope you guys enjoy this Lebanon series.
