Pacific Crossing - Sailing from Marshall Islands to Kosrae Micronesia - Ep #51

Sailing from Majuro Atoll in the Marshall Islands to Kosrae in Micronesia. 25 knots of wind and confused seas between the atolls of the RMI doesn't stop me from chopping a coconut with a machete.

Hi, I’m Markus Pukonen and this is my Adventure Travel Vlog Series. I am travelling around the planet without ever using motorized transport. I started this journey in Toronto, Canada in July of 2015 and intend to circumnavigate back to where I started.

In this weekly youtube series (Every Sunday at 4PM EST) I will share my day to day experiences of what it’s like to travel around the earth under my own power (with help from some wind and currents too!). Loads of epic adventure videos I’m happy to share with you.

I started the journey in a canoe and have since trimaraned, hand cycled, pogosticked, tricycled, skiied, rafted, kayaked, SUPed, rowed, bicycled, sailed, walked, and danced half way around the planet.

Sailing in Majuro Atoll - Marshall Islands - Ep #50

I touch land for the first time in 22 days on Majuro Atoll, after sailing from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands. I fracture my heal and then watch as my boom separates from my mast at the gooseneck.

Sailing Solo to the Marshall Islands - Message in a Bottle - Part 6 - Ep #48

15 Days alone at sea in a small sailboat from Hawaii on route to the Republic of the Marshall Islands. I'm feeling pretty normal, which for me is perfectly crazy. Just in case I don't survive at sea I decide to send a message in a bottle. What's the message?...

Pacific Ocean Crossing - The scariest part of a Sail from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands - Ep #43

It's not what you'd expect. This is the first time I'd sailed away from a dock. The next land I would touch on this soon to be solo sail across the Pacific Ocean was 2100 nautical miles away on Majuro Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Subscribe to see how the rest of this singlehanded sail goes.

????‍❤️‍????About us :
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you.
In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve.
We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle.
So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles.
We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel!
Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world.

Bikini Atoll, The Marshall Islands

Lost somewhere in the ocean, this island looks like a paradise, doesn’t it? But Bikini Atoll was actually home to numerous nuclear testing programs that turned the picturesque island of Bikini into a radioactive wasteland. The inhabitants were forced to abandon their homes, and even today this remains hazardous for living organisms: the abnormally high level of radiation recorded here can cause cancer.

Between 1946 and 1958, 23 nuclear devices were detonated by the United States at seven test sites located on the reef, inside the atoll, in the air, or underwater.

In 1996, the Bikini Council authorized diving operations as a means to generate income for Bikini islanders currently and upon their eventual return. The tours, limited to fewer than a dozen experienced divers a week, cost more than US$5000 and include detailed histories of the nuclear tests.

North Pacific Circumnavigation Hawaii Majuro Guam Japan Alaska

A North Pacific Circumnavigation started from British Columbia on a 10.7m sailboat in September, 2017.
SV Amigo visited San Francisco, Hawaii, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and the Northern Marianas Islands.
The homebound legs included ports in the Inland Sea and in the Sea of Japan.
The Bering Sea was then crossed from Kushiro to reach Attu, Alaska. Canada was entered at Prince Rupert, and Amigo’s home at Eagle Harbour Yacht Club in West Vancouver was reached in September, 2018.
Various incidents occurred: A 3-day near gale was encountered on the US West Coast required dodger and sail repair in San Francisco.
Amigo and crew were detained for five days at Kanazawa on suspicion of terrorism by the Japanese Coast Guard; on one of the days interrogation started at 0630 and finished at 2330.
Amigo ran aground three times while attempting to transit Dry Passage in Alaska. Amigo returned to Petersburg to spend a second night. We then learned, “No one goes that way!”.
