7-Month UPDATE in Singapore 2023: UK expat life after moving, Singapore rental market exp, New Year

In this 7-month update video, I cover some of the challenges we've faced in Singapore’s rental market and rental hikes (in 2023), and where we've been living since moving here. I also talk about how plans might not work out and the emotional challenges of this huge relocation. Singapore is the second most expensive city in the world (after New York City), so if you’re moving to Singapore 2024, this video will reveal some of what to (possibly) expect in 2024. I hope you enjoy the video - like and subscribe for more. In the meantime, thank you so much for watching :) Happy New Year 2024!!! ????????❤️

btw: the December rains part of this video includes some lines from a famous movie - do you know from which one? :)

Palestinian poet, Mahmoud Darwish:
We went too far in our thinking
And forgot that destinies are written.

THE PERFECT CITY EXISTS | Why Singapore Is Worth The Money

I honestly did not expect to like it this much. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, there's a lot of rules. But what Singapore has in beauty, safety, innovation and ease, makes it absolutely worth it. If you are thinking of coming to this island utopia, I would highly recommend spending more than the average 2-3 days. There is a lot to see in this city and not all of it is ridiculously priced. Join me as I tour around and visit some of the well known (and not so well known) areas of the city so you can be much more prepared before your visit. Hope you enjoy the video! xx

The hostel that I stayed at in Singapore, would recommend MET Space Pod:

The travel health insurance I use - PassportCard Nomads:

*I highly recommend this travel health insurance because you don't have to pay out of pocket for your medical expenses and they have very reasonably priced long term plans. You can buy the packages for shorter trips as well, but they're especially fantastic for digital nomads and nomads who want regular health insurance when they are abroad. I am an affiliate of this company, but of course use the plans myself.

Last Village in Singapore: Kampong Lorong Buangkok

► LEARN Photography With Me:
► SUBSCRIBE for more travel photography videos:

In this episode, I explore Singapore’s last village: Kampong Lorong Buangkok. Along the way, I talk to visitors and locals to find out why people are flocking to this cluster of old houses. Then, I head up into a high rise to capture Singapore’s striking architectural anomaly.

The village was founded in 1956 when Mr. Shuen Teow Koon, a traditional Chinese medicine seller, bought the property. It was built along a canal on former swampland that would often flood. As a result, the village also became known as Selak Kain, which means to hike up your sarong or skirt in Malay.

That’s what people did when they had to wade through water to get home.
Today, there are just 10 Chinese and 8 Malay families living in the village.

High-Stress Lifestyle: Living Amid the Never-Ending Pressures

Subscribe to
The wealth and national security of Singapore come at the cost of its people’s stress. Here, people experience stress starting from school. Children here start taking extracurricular subjects from as young as 2 years old. After graduation, the stress intensifies upon entering the workforce.

While stress is associated with a higher suicide rate, it also presents opportunities for starting new businesses such as “Rage Room”

The target customers are Singaporeans looking to alleviate their stress and pressure. Even though they might recognize that the relief is temporary, and they will eventually return to their stressful lives again.
