Perast + Our Lady of the Rocks | Day Trip from Kotor, Montenegro Travel Food Video Transcript:

Well good morning good morning guys. Good morning guys. It is another beautiful day here in Kotor (Котор) so we decided let's take a day trip. So we're going to be hopping on a bus and visiting Perast which is a small little town also by the water. Um yeah and once we're there we can hop on a boat and go visit a few islands so it should be a nice day.

We did manage to find the bus, though it involved running up the street since we were in the wrong spot, but aside from that, it was a quick 20-minute ride up the coast to Perast.

Located on the Bay of Kotor, Perast (Perasto) is a small town that hit its peak in the 18th century under the Venetian Republic. During this time, it had as many as four active shipyards and the citizens of the town were allowed to trade and sell goods without tax on the Venetian market. This made them very wealthy, and while today Perast has more of a sleepy vibe, you can still see traces of that wealth in the number of palazzos that line the waterfront.

So the boat frequency turned out to be more like 30 minutes - that morning we learned “just 5 minutes” should not be taken literally.

There are two islands off the coast of Perast (Perasto). One is St. George, which holds an old monastery and is not open to visitors, and the other is Our Lady of the Rocks, which we visited. The latter is an artificial island that was created by sinking old ships loaded with rocks. Here you’ll find the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks, which is the main attraction. To be honest, this is a quick visit and you likely won’t need more than 15-20 minutes on the island, but you do get some nice views of the surrounding mountains.

Then, after that little excursion we could only think about one thing: lunch!

After Sam’s drone session, we had enough time to climb up to visit one more church, and then it was pretty much time to call it a day.

Perast (Perasto) is a charming seaside town, but it’s very small and some of the tourist sights weren’t open so there wasn't much to do, but it’s great for a half-day trip if you want to see something aside from Kotor (Котор)!

Alright guys so here we are wrapping up a lovely little day trip from Kotor (Котор). Yeah, it sure was lovely and such an affordable trip. I mean we only paid 1 Euro each way. We're just waiting to catch the bus that comes every half hour. Just a few hours here is enough time really. You can wander around the old town, you can take a boat ride out to the islands, have a nice comfortable lunch. Do maybe a little bit more exploring. And then you're ready to go back. So it makes for a great half day trip I would say. Bye for now.

KOTOR. Travel to Montenegro's Medieval City.

We spend the day exploring the absolutely stunning city of Kotor, in Montenegro. Kotor is situated on the Bay of Kotor and is surrounded by mountains.

We start the day by walking along the Bay to take in the stunning views, making our way to the walled in Old Town. After exploring the streets for a bit, and finding some of Kotor’s infamous cats, we decide to do a hike. You can hike all the way up to the Castle of San Giovanni, but since we had limited time we only went halfway to the Church of our Lady of Remedy. Here we take in the incredible view and spend some time checking out the small church. After making our way back down the mountain we decide to get some lunch. We find the number one Trip Advisor rated restaurant called Tanjga. Our food takes a long time but ends up being delicious and well priced. Finally we make our way back to our hotel to finish the day.

Kotor, Montenegro:
The Old City of Kotor is a well preserved urbanization typical of the middle Ages, built between the 12th and 14th century. Medieval architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage have made Kotor a UNESCO listed “World Natural and Historical Heritage Site”. Through the entire city the buildings are criss-crossed with narrow streets and squares. One of these squares contains the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (Sveti Tripun), a monument of Roman culture and one of the most recognisable symbols of the city.Located along one of world’s most beautiful bays is Kotor, a city of traders and famous sailors, with many stories to tell.

Old town, Kotor:
The Old Town of Kotor lay in the shadows of the fearsome St. John’s Hill and the walls protecting this town are a fortification masterpiece at up to 15 meters wide and 20 meters high each. These walls are skillfully crafted into the natural steep slopes of the hill and the view of this town on approach is one of the amazing sights, not only of the Mediterranean, but of the world.

A person’s first look at Kotor, whether from the sea or from the road, always leaves a strong impression. Kotor is unique for several reasons. It is located on the only natural fjord of its kind in the world and in a bay that has made the list of Most Beautiful Bays in the World. But visiting Kotor is about more than beautiful views—it’s also about experiencing the cultural heritage of Boka Kotorska Bay.

San Giovanni Castle, Kotor:
San Giovanni, also called St. John’s Castle, is perched 1200m high on the hill of St. John. The fortifications date back as far as 532 when Byzantine Emperor Justinian I had the fort built. Since it’s creation, the fort has under seen plenty of changes and battles under Venetian, Russian, and French rule. It’s been bombed by British Naval armies, occupied during World War II, and even survived three separate earthquakes.

The walking path to San Giovanni castle has 1,350 steps and needs good shoes. The view over the Kotor bay is breathtaking from the top.
San Giovanni is part of the fortifications of Kotor which are an integrated historical fortification system that protected the medieval town of Kotor containing ramparts, towers, citadels, gates, bastions, forts, cisterns, a castle, and ancillary buildings and structures. They incorporate military architecture of Illyria, Byzantium, Venice, and Austria. Together with the old town and its natural surroundings the fortifications were inscribed in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1979 labelled Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor.

Lady remedy, kotor:
The Church of Our Lady of Remedy (Crkva Gospe od Zdravlja or Crkva Marije Koleđate) is a Roman Catholic church located in Kotor, which dates from early XIV century. The congregation is roosted on the slant of the St. John Mountain right above Old Town Kotor. It can only be reached on foot by climbing Kotor City Wall stairs on the path to St John Fortress.

Kotor, Montenegro: A Day in Port and Departure

Produced with CyberLink PowerDirector 16. In this day, we arrived early in Kotor Montenegro, just down the coast from Dubrovnik. We then walked across the park to take a boat tour of Kotor Bay with stops at Our Lady of the Rocks Cathedral, built on a manmade island hundreds of years ago, then take a short skip over to Perast, a once powerful maritime port where Venicians learned to sail, before heading back and walking the old town. We then depart the bay into a beautiful sunset passing all of these landmarks on our way back out to the Adriatic. Hope you enjoy!

Our Fun Journey in KOTOR, Montenegro

Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro. Kotor, first mentioned in 168 BC, was settled during Ancient Roman times, when it was known as Acruvium, Ascrivium, or Ascruvium (Ancient Greek: Ἀσκρήβιον) and was part of the Roman province of Dalmatia
Kotor has one of the best preserved medieval old towns in the Adriatic and is a UNESCO world heritage site.[2] It is home to numerous sights, such as the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon in the old town (built in 1166), and the ancient walls which stretch for 4.5 km (3 mi) directly above the city. Sveti Đorđe and Gospa od Škrpijela islets off the coast of Perast are also among the more popular destinations in the vicinity of Kotor.
