Ever wanted to travel to Tanzania by bus? There is a lot of going on right now centered upon the coronavirus outbreak, but we recently took a trip by bus from Kenya to Zanzibar and it was amazing. If these times come to pass, make a point to do so too.
I got my yellow fever vaccination from M.P. Shah Nairobi the day before. It is a life-long vaccine, not like the old 10-year one. Price Ksh 1900.
We booked the ferry tickets online using the Tahmeed online booking portal
The ferry tickets cost $25 per person (watch the Vlog for details) and it took 40-45 minutes from Tanzania to Zanzibar.
As usual, we booked our stay using Airbnb.

Tanga is a port city in northeast Tanzania. This is a trip from Mombasa, passing through Ukunda, Lunga Lunga and finally Horohoro in Tanzania before you get to Tanga
Tanzania Has The BEST Transport System In Africa; Dar es Salaam Tanzania BRT System
Dar es Salaam bus rapid transit is a bus rapid transit system that began operations on 10 May 2016 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.The transit system consists of 6 phases and the construction of the first phase began in April 2012 by the Austrian construction company Strabag International GmbH. Construction of the first phase was completed in December 2015 at a total cost of €134 million funded by the African Development Bank, World Bank and the Government of Tanzania.The first phase of the project has a total length of 21.1 kilometers with dedicated bus lanes on three trunk routes with a total of 29 stations. The entire system is operated by The Usafiri salama Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit (UDA-RT) under the surveillance of the Surface and Marine Transport regulatory authority (Sumatra).Currently, the route is serviced by a fleet of 140 Chinese built Golden Dragon buses, providing express and local service for 18 hours daily from 05:00am to 11:00pm.

Highway travel in Tanzania is not for the faint of heart!
In Tanzania, distances are vast, services are sparse, and traffic is dangerous. Nevertheless, the benefits of such a journey vastly outweigh any costs. On my trip from Dar es Salaam to the northern city of Arusha, I was treated so scenic mountain views (including of the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro) throughout this 628-km journey, which took a whole 14 hours to complete from start to finish.

Since flights are hell expensive in Africa, so I had to take the bus from Mombasa to Dar es Salaam (Kenya to Tanzania) and it turned out to be a very good journey and adventure. I got a Tanzania visa on Arrival at the border on a Pakistani passport. The bus company name is Tahmeed which has three buses every day departing from Mombasa to Dar es Salaam. the ticket costs $15 USD.

FLYING FROM MOMBASA TO DAR ES SALAAM VIA NAIROBI| MY LONGEST EVER FLIGHT
I flew Kenya Airways from Mombasa to Dar es Salaam via Nairobi in February before Covid 19 hit East Africa. I also flew Precision Air to Zanzibar.
I flew Precision Air has it is the only airline that operates the ATR 72-500 Aircrafts in the region and also since at the time I arrived at the Julius Nyerere there was no ferry to Zanzibar so this was an unforgettable experience. There was a discount by Kenya Airways for MBA-DAR via NBO hence why I took this flight.
All were amazing experiences.

Busfahrt Afrika: Von MOMBASA nach DAR ES SALAAM mit dem Modern Coast Bus - 12 Stunden mit dem Bus unterwegs in Afrika von Kenia nach Tansania.
Du bist in Mombasa und willst nach Dar es Salaam und dann weiter nach Sansibar? Natürlich kannst Du nach Tansania fliegen und das geht auch viel schneller.
Aber viel aufregender ist es, wenn du mit dem Bus von Mombasa in Kenia nach Dar es Salaam in Tansania fährst. Die Fahrt dauert zwar rund 12 Stunden, ist aber um einiges günstiger als der Flug von Kenias Hafenstadt Mombasa nach Tansania. Natürlich vorausgesetzt dir macht es nichts aus, wenn du so lange mit dem Bus in Afrika unterwegs bist.
Buchen kannst du das Busticket online, in Reisebüros oder direkt im Hotel in Mombasa. Ich hatte mir mein Busticket im Reef Hotel Mombasa am Nyali Beach besorgt. Inklusive Sitzpatzauswahl. Und dazu empfiehlt es sich, wenn du dazu auch noch gleich ein Taxi buchst, das dich morgens zum Bus bringt.
Für nur ein paar Euro aufpreis kannst du auch einen Sitzplatz in der ersten Klasse oder einen VIP Platz buchen. Ja, du hast richtig gelesen. Im Modern Coast Bus von Mombasa nach Daressalam gibt es normale Sitzplätze, Plätze in der 1. Klasse sowie VIP Plätze.
Wie du im Video sehen kannst habe ich direkt hinter dem Busfahrer gesessen. Die beiden sitzplätze waren extra breit und es gab deutlich mehr Platz für die Beine als bei den Reihen weiter hinten.
Dieser Komfort mit zusätzlicher Beinfreiheit sollte auch dir ein paar Euro wert sein, schließlich dauert die Fahrt von Kenia nach Tansania mehr als 10 Stunden.
Früh morgens ging es in Mombasa los und am späten Nachmittag ist der Modern Coast Bus dann in Dar es Salaam angekommen. Am Grenzübergang von Kenya nach Tanzania mussten dann alle Fahrgäste mit ihrem Gepäck durch die Grenzkontrolle. Allein dieser Vorgang hatte eine knappe Stunde gedauert. Die Pässe aller Passagiere wurden gründlich geprüft, das braucht dann schon eine gewisse Zeit.
Der Bus war natürlich nicht das allerneuste Modell. Aber sicher hatte ich mich schon während der Fahrt gefühlt. Obwohl der Straßenverkehr ein wenig gewöhnungsbedürftig in Afrika ist uns natürlich nicht mit den Verhältnissen in Deutschland vergleichbar ist. Aber das sollte jedem klar sein, der mit Bus und Bahn in Afrika unterwegs ist.
Eines der wohl am häufigsten genutze Bedienelemente im Bus war wahrscheinlich die Hupe, die der Busfahrer während der gesamten Fahrt gefühlt tausendfach benutzte. Aber es kam glücklicherweise zu keinerlei brenzligen Situationen oder Zusammenstößen.
Letztendlich hat uns der Busfahrer sicher nach Dar es Salaam gebracht.
Auch landschaftlich hatte die lange Busfahrt durch zwei Länder einiges zu bieten. Von großen Stätzen., kleinen Dörfern, einer Flussüberquerung und unberührter Natur war alles dabei.
Mit meiner Sony Actioncam habe ich einen ordentlichen Teil der Fahrt mitgefilmt.
