Here is an overview of what Elvis was up to in the mid-60s. We visit sites of the Memphian, Manhattan Club and work began on Graceland's Meditation Garden.

Elvis Presley 1963 -1965. Elvis stuck in Hollywood! The next installment of my potted history of Elvis is a bit more challenging. I've been making the videos with the intention of concentrating on the places we've been lucky enough to visit in and around Memphis in 2017 and 2019. This period of Elvis Presley's life seemed to be endlessly stuck in Hollywood making the movies. Some not bad, some not so great, one or two terrible! Anyway, this video covers 3 years with my videos inserted wherever appropriate! This includes Elvis giving cheques to charity at Christmas 1963 at the Memphis City Hall. Also the Memphian hosted the Elvis's New Year's Eve 'party' in 63, while the Manhattan Club was the venue again in '65 (following the '62 party). There were pics taken at Graceland, and this period also saw the Graceland Meditation Garden being started.This period saw the making of the following Elvis movies - Fun In Acapulco, Viva Las Vegas, Kissin' Cousins, Roustabout, Girl Happy, Harum Scarum, Tickle Me, Frankie And Johnny and Paradise, Hawaiian Style. There were a couple of recording sessions at Nashville's RCA Studio B, and of course on the seemingly less than usual times at home in Memphis Elvis rented out the Memphis Fairgrounds and the Memphian Theatre for all night entertainment for family and friends.
Away from Memphis, this period included the now historic meeting of Elvis and The Beatles.
As always, sources of information have been gathered since I was 12 years old!! Some (but not all) sources include books by Peter Guralnick, Ernst Jorgensen, Pal Granlund, David English, Erik Lorentzen, Alan Hanson, Paul Richardson and Keith Flynn. Websites include elvisinfonet.com, elvis.com/au, historic-memphis.com, and the fascinating stories and information contributed by so many to the sites, and magazines Elvis The Man and His Music and Essential Elvis. Sleevenotes contributors to the Follow That Dream collector's label CDs. Also the Memphis locations books Elvis - Memphis Style by Mike Freeman and Follow Me To Memphis by Andrew Hearn.
So many more over the years on TV documentaries (although many need better researchers), and VHS (!!), and DVD releases.

21 January 1963 Elvis is in Hollywood to begin work on 'Fun In Acapulco'.
22 March 1963 Elvis is released from his movie commitments and returns to Memphis, where Priscilla is waiting.
He spends time with Priscilla on shopping sprees and from the middle of May through to the end of June most nights Elvis rents out the Memphian for private movie screenings.
The only commitment he has in this period is 2 nights of recording back in Nashville at the RCA Studio
26 May 1963 Elvis records 14 songs over the next 2 nights, including the hit single (You're The) Devil In Disguise.
9 July 1963 Elvis is back in Hollywood to begin filming and recording the soundtrack for 'Viva Las Vegas'
(which will originally be released in the UK as 'Love In Las Vegas').
The film includes location filming in Las Vegas and the cast includes arguably his best / favourite co-star in Ann-Margret.
11 September 1963 Film commitments end and Elvis returns to Memphis, where Elvis will rent out the Memphian most nights.
Colonel Tom Parker determines to make the next, 'Kissin' Cousins', on a much tighter budget.
Soundtrack recording begins at RCA's Nashville studio.
Elvis is ill (maybe at the thought of recording 'Barefoot Ballad'), so only the tracks are recorded
Elvis attended Memphis City Hall many Christmases to hand out cheques for charity,
most famously on 17 December 1963
12 January 1964 Elvis arrives by motorcycle for a recording session at the RCA Studio in Nashville.
'Memphis, Tennessee' will appear on the following year's 'Elvis For Everyone' compilation of mostly unreleased songs dating back to 1954.
The new song 'It Hurts Me' will be wasted as the b-side to 'Kissin' Cousins'
Work has in the meantime begun on the Meditation Garden...
The building on the corner there was the Manhattan Club.
Elvis had New Year's Eve parties in there in '62 and '65.
Willie Mitchell and his band were the house band here at the Manhattan.

The Bordeaux's nicknames are La perle d'Aquitaine (The Pearl of Aquitaine), and La Belle Endormie (Sleeping Beauty) in reference to the old center which had black walls due to pollution. Nowadays, this is not the case. In fact, a part of the city, Le Port de La Lune, was almost completely renovated.

Um das Siebengebirge ranken sich viele Mythen und Legenden: Daniel Aßmann begibt sich zwischen Königswinter und Bad Honnef auf die Suche nach Drachen und Rittern, versunkenen Schätzen und aus der Zeit gefallenen Mönchen.
Märchenhaft mutet Schloss Drachenburg an; voller Anekdoten ist die Präsidentensuite im Luxushotel Petersberg; und zum Rolandsbogen nahe Remagen gehört eine traurige Liebesgeschichte. Wahr ist auch, dass eins der weltweit ältesten Hundeskelette unweit von Bonn-Oberkassel gefunden wurde. Und es stimmt, dass Konrad Adenauer in den 1950er-Jahren den Bau einer Seilbahn zwischen Rhöndorf und der Löwenburg verhinderte, weil Touristen auf sein Haus hätten sehen können. Daniel Aßmann wandert und radelt durch den Naturpark und stellt fest: An der sagenhaften Rheinromantik ist etwas dran.
