Jewish Iraqi Food - AMAZING Eating Tour of Ramla Market!

Among food lovers, Ramla Market is one of the best known places to eat. It’s located about a 30 minute drive from the center of Tel Aviv, and along with my friend David, we headed there one morning to go on an amazing food tour.

Ramla Market is especially known for its variety of Turkish and Iraqi food influences, and it’s just an amazing food market.

Halil Restaurant - The first place we stopped in Ramla is Halil, another legendary hummus restaurant. But even better than their hummus for me, I loved their musabaha, raw tahini with whole chickpeas. Total price - 60 ILS ($16.76)

Prickly pear - Oddly, prickly pear which is originally from SW United States is very popular across Israel. The fruit vendor peeled me a prickly pear, which is full of seeds, but pretty good.

Turkish burekas - One of the popular street food snacks at Ramla Market is Turkish burekas, a snack that’s also common throughout the Balkans. They were really amazingly good, a perfect salty cheesy snack. Price - 5 ILS ($1.40) per piece

Naji Iraqi Restaurant - This is one of the highlights of the market for me, a family run Iraqi Jewish food restaurant. David explained to me that Iraqi Jewish food is so hard to find at restaurants because most people only make the dishes at home. There were definitely some dishes that I had never tried before, and it was an amazing meal. Total price - 200 ILS ($55.88)

Again, big thank you to David, go check out his amazing food adventures:

There are few cities in the world that can compare to Jerusalem in terms of ancient history and religious significance. It’s one of the most fascinating cities in the world, and it’s a city that I’ve wanted to visit my entire life. Finally, along with my friend David ( and Rafram, we explored Jerusalem to discover the food treasures the city has to offer - and let me tell you, you’ll find some incredibly delicious food in Jerusalem!

We started off the Jerusalem food tour by first walking around East Jerusalem and starting with the best plate of hummus I’ve ever had. We then toured around Old Jerusalem, and enjoyed some incredible Palestinian food kebabs cooked by an incredible man who cooked with serious love and passion. Another highlight in Jerusalem was the mutabak, a thin pastry stuffed with cheese and baked.

After eating our way through Old Jerusalem, we then headed into West Jerusalem and went to lunch at an Israeli Jewish restaurant serving a mix of amazing dishes. The food was home-cooked in style, and absolutely sensation. A few more snacks and sightseeing throughout the afternoon, and that brought us all the way to dinner where David had made reservations to eat at one of the hottest restaurants in Jerusalem, Machneyuda Restaurant. It was quite an experience, and an amazing meal and lively atmosphere to wrap up this ultimate Jerusalem food tour.

Here’s all the food and places included in this Palestinian food and Israeli food tour of Jerusalem:

Hummus Acramawi
Price - 20 ILS ($5.57) per plate

Almond juice - 3.90 ILS ($1.09)

Al-shuala Grill Restaurant

Fruit - 10 ILS ($2.76) per kg.

Western Wall (Wailing Wall)
Western Wall Tunnel
Price - 35 ILS ($9.76) per person

It was a lot of food in a single day, but it was one of the greatest food and learning days that I’ve ever had in my life. The generosity of the people we connected with, paired with the food, was truly a memorable experience in Jerusalem.

Thank you again to David ( and Rafram for showing me some of the best food in Jerusalem!

Tel Aviv Food Tour - BEST Sabich, Hummus, and Lamb Pita - Middle Eastern Israeli Food!

►Follow David on Instagram: and Facebook:

►T-shirts -

For this Tel Aviv, Israel, food tour, we hooked up with my friend David ( to eat some of the best food in Tel Aviv, including a few true gems of Israeli and Middle Eastern food.

Our first stop was in Jaffa, the old area of Tel Aviv, just south of the main city. It’s an ancient Biblical city, and I was excited to visit. Located in Jaffa is Abu Hassan, one of the most legendary and standards of hummus in Tel Aviv.

Abu Hassan - Located in a peaceful area of Jaffa, this restaurant is always packed and busy full of people hungry for hummus, ful, and musabaha. it’s truly a legendary place and the hummus was of the sticky and smooth variety. I think my favorite thing was the musabaha, like hummus, but with whole chickpeas. They also offer a mix of hummus, ful, and musabaha all in a single bowl which is excellent.
Total price - 72 ILS ($20.95)

Sabich Tchernichovsky - An Iraqi Jewish food in Israel, sabich is a pita filled with eggplant and hard boiled eggs, and a selection of salad and condiments. David says that there’s no doubt Sabich Tchernichovsky makes the best sabich in Israel, and I was very impressed. He assembled the pita so slowly and perfectly, adding layer upon layer of eggplant, egg, and salad. It was truly one of the best vegetarian (but with egg) sandwiches I’ve ever had.
Price - 21 ILS ($5.87)

Falafel Johnny Benin - Next to Sabich Tchernichovsky, is Falafel Johnny Benin, a legendary Tel Aviv falafel hole in the wall restaurant. I ordered a half of a falafel sandwich, with salad and tahini. It was delicious, and freshly cooked.
Half falafel pita - 9 ILS ($2.51)

Carmel Market - Carmel Market is one of the most well known of all open air flea markets in Tel Aviv. You’ll find everything there, including a nice food section.

HaBasta Restaurant - Located on a side street of Carmel Market, is HaBasta, a gourmet market fresh restaurant. They served us some very fresh and interesting dishes. The crab was delicious, and the fried veal brain was amazing, but I especially loved the cherry salad.
Total price - 400 ILS ($111.72)

Pronto Restaurant - Owned by the renowned Chef David Frankel, Pronto is a refined Israeli Italian and Mediterranean restaurant. The food was extremely high quality, and the flavors were very subtle and delicious. We were planning to pay for our meal, but David knows the chef very well, and Chef David wouldn’t allow us to pay. Delicious high end gourmet food.

Jasmino - This was probably my favorite food on this entire Israeli food tour of Tel Aviv, Jasmino, specializing in grilled meat pita. The owner, another extremely kind man, ordered me the sweetbreads pita, grilled thymus and bottom part of lamb throat glands, with salad and tahini. It was extraordinary. My kind of a place.
Price - 28 ILS ($7.82)

And that completed our Tel Aviv food tour!

A tour of the Mahaneh Yehuda market - the Iraqi market and Azura restaurant . Jerusalem, Israel

Zahi Shaked A tour guide in Israel and his camera zahigo25@walla.com +972-54-6905522 tel סיור עם מורה הדרך ומדריך הטיולים צחי שקד 0546905522
My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.

Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.

In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)

Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

We started our day with Sabich for breakfast, a very popular street food you can eat almost any time of the day (so healthy!), and then a Turkish dessert, Malebi with Arabic coffee. Then, we enter the Carmel Market to sample some local spices and enjoy two types of hummus. Next, Inbal takes us to a local kitchen to eat Yemini food, a bread that is fried with egg and with hummus and zhug (SPICY!). We then try Syrian cookies, and stopped by a stall making fresh pitas. We end the day with a fresh, street-side falafel. All food featured in this video was paid for in full by us.

Kolkata Street Food - AMAZING Indian Vegetarian Meal on Decker's Lane!

Check out my Indian street food guide to Kolkata street food on my blog:

When I visited India, I went with a main intention to eat, of course. And as soon as I flew into Kolkata, I knew that I was in Indian street food heaven. Kolkata is a giant city, India's third largest, and while it's chaotic and busy in every way imaginable, this makes for an environment where street food is everywhere to be seen.

After doing a little research, I decided to go to a street in Kolkata that's now known as James Hickey Sarani, but is better known by its former name of Deckers Lane. Mention Deckers Lane to most locals in Kolkata, and the most delicious selection of Indian street food will come to their minds. And that is exactly where I wanted to be, and where I found some truly wonderful Indian food in a very nice environment. The street is best during the lunchtime hour when many folks are out on their lunch breaks and hungry. Deckers Lane fills up with people devour plates of food, walking up and down, sipping on clay cups of chai, and motorcycles honking while passing by.

Having not a clue where to eat first, I settled upon a masala dosa stall and that's what I ate (video later). But that was just warm up. After the masala dosa I couldn't help myself from going to the stall that was receiving the most continual flow of customer - there was one stall where there was a huge crowd huddled around eating and waiting for their food and it looked the best. So that's exactly where I went. I got in line, a line that didn't really exist, and finally had the chance to talk to the guy taking order. I first got rice and then under his recommendation had the potato curry, some mixed vegetable curry, and a few pieces of tandoori roti to top things off. I was incredibly excited to start digging into my Kolkata street food feast. The meal was food influenced from north India, rather than local Bengali dishes. It was rich and creamy, and the curries were strong and absolutely flavorful. Using the rice and tandoori roti, I was able to scrape up everything and fully enjoyed every single bite of this meal along Deckers Lane in Kolkata.

The men eating at this street food stall along with me, were all pretty friendly too, particularly the man in the purple sweater who gave me some good tips and named the dishes I ate as he was eating too. You can just see the passion and intense love of the food he has on his face too! So anyway, this was one of my first meals in India, and it proved to be an absolutely delicious meal that I would eat over and over again if I lived in Kolkata. The entire Kolkata street food meal cost me 40 Indian Rupees, which is about $0.72, a pretty decent steal in my opinion!

Jerusalem's Old City: Ultimate Street Food Heaven ????????

Hey guys!!! I started my first full day in Jerusalem with a market hunt in the old city of Jerusalem. After entering the old city from the Jaffa Gate which is practically the entrance gate to the Armenian Quarter I started exploring the old city. After visiting the Armenian and Jewish Quarter I visited the Muslim Quarter. I've heard from a couple of people that the food in the Muslim Quarter is the best and also the cheapest - and this is totally the case. While strolling through the Muslim Quarter I bumped into my friend Basir. After that I tried some of the street food spots in the Muslim Quarter and I had a falafel sandwich and some kind of Israelin Pizza. Especially in the Old City is so much to see and to taste - it's incredible. Anyway I do not want to spoil too much, just watch the video and enjoy!
