We took a family trip, my wife and her sisters, really wanted to see the snow, so we took a trip to Sapporo, on the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan. Throughout our trip we ate a few delicious Japanese food meals (there area few more videos you can watch from Hokkaido here as well: ), but here are a few great restaurants we tried in Sapporo.
Mt. Moiwa Ropeway - First, one morning we took the ropeway to the top of the mountain to get a view. Unfortunately there was no view, but it was still beautiful.
Sapporo Junren - Miso ramen is one of the ultimate types of ramen that you’ll find all over Japan, but that originates in Hokkaido. In Sapporo there are many options to eat miso ramen, but I chose Sapporo Junren, a little outside the center of the city. The ramen, and I got extra chashu and an egg, and the spicy version, was incredibly rich and butter, and flavorful.
Special miso ramen - 1,330 JPY ($11.93)
Nijo Market - Daiichi Kaisenmaru - Nijo market is a small seafood market in Sapporo and we when we were there, we stepped inside Daiichi Kaisenmaru, a small Uncle and Aunty family run seafood rice bowl restaurant. The service is so friendly and they serve up delicious seafood rice bowls.
Mix seafood bowl - 3,800 JPY ($34.07)
Soup Curry Treasure - You’ll find Japanese curry all over Japan, but in Sapporo there are known for soup curry - a Japanese food I had never tried before. I tried Soup Curry Treasure (same place as the famous GARAKU). You can choose spicy level 1 - 40, so I had to try the 40. It was pretty spicy, but a good spicy.
Price - 1,320 JPY ($11.84)
Hanamaru Sushi - Sapporo Station - Finally, to finish off this Japanese food tour in Sapporo, Hokkaido, we were at Sapporo Station and stopped at what is considered one of the best quality conveyor belt sushi restaurants in Japan. The seafood was fresh and generout, and if you can wait out the line, it’s well worth eating at when you’re in Sapporo.
Total price - 8,763 JPY ($78.57) for 5

What is Ramen?
Ramen is Japan’s most famous noodle dish. There are hundreds of varieties of must try ramen in Japan! Apart from Sushi and sashimi (raw fish), ramen is probably the most famous food in Japan! It is absolutely a must try Japanese food. When researching all the different ramen varieties in Japan, we had trouble deciding on a travel route to taste them all. Since there are hundreds of types, we agreed that it would be very hard to try all of Japan’s best ramen in one trip. Even tasting the Michelin star ramen would be hard due to long lineups!
Also, ramen is just one of Japan’s must try noodle dishes! Japan is also famous for soba (buckwheat noodles), udon noodles (cold or hot), tsukemen noodles, spicy tan tan men Sichuan style Japanese noodles, and many more! And each of these noodles also has hundreds of varieties too!
So, we narrowed down the cities to try the best ramen AND the BEST noodles in Japan and decided on 6 main Japanese noodle cities from north to south and filmed 7of the best ramen/street food videos.
Sapporo, Episode 1: This is the Sapporo episode of our world noodle tour: where we feature 4 amazing bowls of the best RAMEN only. In this episode, we decided to just feature just the best ramen, and are saving the soba noodles and udon noodles and others for future episodes.
1. Miso Ramen - Sapporo’s most famous ramen is definitely the delicious miso ramen. Hokkaido Island is famous for 3 types of ramen. Asahikawa city is famous for Shoyu (soy sauce) ramen, Sapporo is famous for miso ramen, and Hakodate is famous for shio (salt) ramen. In our Sapporo food video, we’re first bringing you to the BEST MISO RAMEN.
Miso Ramen has a stock that is usually always made from either pork, chicken, animal blends, seafood, clams, shellfish, and shrimp.

3. Miso Shrimp Ramen (late night)
This is like taking the regular miso ramen and upgrading it with shrimp! Not only do you get the rich stock from the miso, but the shrimp and chasiu pork as well!

4. Sapporo BLACK ramen (with FIRE!)
This was probably the best bowl of ramen we had in Sapporo, a close tie with the Miso Shrimp ramen. It was incredibly aromatic with dark soy sauce, yet not too salty either. It’s a black shoyu ramen using dark soy sauce in a seafood and animal blend stock with lots of garlic and futomen thick noodles.

You definitely have to try the Spicy Miso Ramen. The broth is authentic, rich and super flavourful! We especially liked the bar-top seating as we got to see the chefs in their element.

With over 20 types of Gyozas to choose from, be prepared to have a gyoza feast! Crispy and savoury, yummmm~
00:26 - Hanamaru Sushi
SUSHI~! Who can say no to that? Both fresh and affordable, we highly recommend this place. We spent only SGD17/pax even after that devouring a large amount of sushi.

The baked cheese tart craze might have died down a little in Singapore, but if you're ever in Sapporo, you definitely cannot miss trying one from this stall!

This place offers different tiers of buffets, so you can choose which one you feel like having. A little on the pricier side, but definitely worth it for that one treat-yoself meal! Our meal came with free flow king and snow crabs, and a popular mutton dish, Jingisukan.

So you've had one baked cheese tart, it's time to indulge in a strawberry tart that has fresh, sweet fruits with a yummy pastry crust!

We all love our Kaisen Dons, and here, the ingredients are fresh from Sapporo's Wholesale Market!

If you're craving some local Singaporean dishes, perhaps you could try here! The decor of the place really looked like a hawker centre in Singapore. They even serve local delicacies like Hainanese Chicken Rice, Fried Hokkien Mee and Satay!

24 Hours of Eating in Sapporo ft. Best Sushi Train, Pork Rice bowls & Miso Ramen
It's our second last day in Japan so we decided to do as much as possible! (do: eat)

Just a fun day exploring new eats and things to do! The new sushi restaurant was a hidden gem. It's very popular with the locals and not many tourists know about it. The BEST sushi I've ever had!!

Amazing Kaiten-Zushi in Sapporo, Japan - (Sushi on a conveyor belt)
Kaiten-Zushi is well known outside of Japan. But usually the Kaiten-zushi level and quality of sushi is much higher and cheaper than overseas. This Kaiten-Zushi shop called Toriton which is from Hokkaido and has its base in Sapporo City, is a higher quality and cost kaiten-zushi shop, but the level and quality of sushi is much higher than the typical large chain kaiten-zushi shops. Try it out if get to Sapporo, Hokkaido!
