JAPANESE SUPERMARKETS - FOOD HAUL FOR 3,000¥ | LIFE IN JAPAN | The Tao of David

Japanese Supermarket Food Haul! Yes, it's time to do a weekly food shop at a Japanese Supermarket, although I hope it'll last more than a week!

I set myself a budget of 3,000 Yen (about 26 USD) to buy some food to keep me going at my Workaway in terms of cooking proper meals rather than eating out. How does Supermarket food in Japan compare to Japanese Convenience stores, ie Family Mart, Lawson & 7/11?

You can check out my Japanese Conbini Videos in the Playlists below where I challenged myself to survive on 1000 Yen a day at regular Convenience Stores and 1000 Yen a week at Lawson 100 (Japanese 100 Yen store)

FOOD HAUL! ARGH!

If you're planning a Japan trip, looking for Things to Do in Japan, or maybe you're looking to stay in Japan for longer, this is my 'Life in Japan series' detailing my life over the next three months.

As well as working in a hostel in Hiroshima (Workaway), I am teaching English online on Italki and Preply as well as continuing my YouTube channel.

Japanese Supermarket Tour with Food Prices | Buying Groceries in Japan

Join us for a Japanese supermarket tour in Nikko as we showcase all of the different food items you can buy when you're shopping for groceries in Japan. One of the best budget travel tips for those visiting Japan is to regularly eat breakfast, lunch and dinner from either a supermarket or convenience store. If you visit later on in the evening or even late afternoon certain items will be discounted at 20, 30 or even 40% off the original price. This is especially true for items like sushi and tempura.

We noticed in the fruit and vegetable section that certain items can be really pricey including items such as apples and watermelons and oranges out of season. However, bananas are cheap as are many other vegetables such as carrots and leafy greens.

The best bargains for Japanese food items in a grocery store in Japan are definitely the prepacked meals including items such as sushi, tempura, sashimi and takoyaki to name just a few. Certain Japanese snacks such as shrimp crackers are also delicious as well if you're craving something salty.

In terms of beverages Japanese Sake and beer are most common but these days they also have a big foreign wine section where you can buy red wine from Chile as an example.

Overall, touring a Japanese supermarket is fascinating and one of our fondest memories in Japan was just going a few times a week to get groceries. Have you been to a Japanese supermarket before? What were some of the best bargains you fond and what did you find expensive? Let us know in the comments below.

Japanese Supermarket Tour with Food Prices! Buying Groceries in Japan:

If there is something you need to know about Sam it is that he loves supermarkets wherever he goes. I love supermarkets. Anytime we're visiting a new country or even a new city for that matter I have to go in and check out the supermarket. And not just to get the essentials. I need to go through every aisle. Now that we're in Nikko, Japan take a look at this. There is a mountain behind the supermarket.

We're going to be going inside and showing you guys what a Japanese supermarket is like. This is our first supermarket tour in Japan so let's go check it out. Supermarket tour. He's got his little basket.

Grocery shopping mission accomplished. Yep. So price point was 2,515 Yen which was just under $23 US dollars. I think that is an absolute steal.

Look at all of the stuff. Two bags full of food. It includes wine it includes food it includes fruit. Vegetables. Snacks. So yeah that is going to be more than just one meal obviously. Yes. The wine should last us a couple of nights.

Here is the supermarket with the mountains.

I think we're going to go back and eat this and maybe go for a walk later. Anyways hope you guys enjoyed this Japanese supermarket tour. Please let us know you thought was the most interesting part if you've tried any of these items or you would like to try some of these items. Bye for now.

This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese experiences.

JAPAN CONVENIENCE STORES - A Conbini Guide at Lawson 100 Yen Store! | The Tao of David

JAPAN CONVENIENCE STORES - A Conbini Guide at Lawson 100 Yen Store! - Japan's Conbinis (or Konbinis) are amazing! Family Mart, 7/11, Lawson and others provide an easy option to living on a budget in Japan.

But is Japan a budget backpacker destination? In this video I set out to prove that you don't just need to go to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Australia as a budget backpacker. Japan is ideal if you are prepared to shop at Lawson 100, Japan's 100 Yen store (Dollar stores/Pound Shops), located in cities like Tokyo and Osaka.

Living on a budget in Japan is possible! In this video I show you how you can survive on a basic budget of 1,000 Yen per week (about $10 USD). Thanks to one of my viewers, Rodd Roddy for suggesting I make this video!

JAPAN'S CONVENIENCE STORES ARE THE BEST! - MY CONBINI GUIDE - The Tao of David

JAPAN CONVENIENCE STORES - A CONBINI/KONBINI GUIDE! Looking for cheap food in Japan? Japan's Conbinis, or sometimes spelt as Konbinis (Family Mart, 7/11 and Lawson Station) provide travellers and tourists with a cheap alternative to eating out in restaurants or eating street food.

I absolutely love Conbinis! They are so different from Family Mart and 7/11 in other countries as they provide such a fantastic variety of both Japanese food and Western Food, from Onigiri (Seaweed Rice Triangle) to Egg Sandwiches and more.

In this video, First World Traveller takes a look around all 3 major Convenience store chains as well as the lesser known Mini Stop in Tokyo showing you how you can survive on a budget of 1,000 Yen per day (around $9-10 USD in July 2017.

TOP MUST-TRY FOOD IN TOKYO, JAPAN | Japan Food Guide

Hi guys,

Welcome back to our channel, Two Hungry Diners!

Tokyo, Japan’s megacity, is a food haven with a whole range of appetizing and mouth-watering delights, everything from traditional cuisines to foods with a modern twist. With over 160,000 restaurants and more Michelin stars than any city in the world, Tokyo really is a Mecca for foodies.

If you're visiting Tokyo, there's a good chance you'll be staying in the Shinjuku or Shibuya areas and both areas are considered as Tokyo’s two best neighborhoods, and it is hard to tell one is better than another when it comes to food. There's no lack of food options in this bustling areas, Here are some of the food we think you have to absolutely try:

1. Fuunji
Fuunji has been a ramen enthusiasts’ favorite since its inception back in 2007. This ramen shop is located in Shinjuku and in recent years, it has become increasingly popular and now, is even a regular stop for foreigners. It is known for its tsukemen ramen - a dry ramen dish where you dip cold noodles in a separate bowl of hot savory broth. The noodles are wonderfully eggy, but the star here is the soup – rich and creamy.

They also serve the 'Special Ramen'. While this was definitely delicious as well, the soup didn’t have the same satisfying rich flavor of the tsukemen ramen broth. That said, it may appeal to people who prefer their food to be less salty.

2. Cha no Ikedaya
Cha no Ikedaya (茶の池田や) is a specialty shop of Japanese green tea, located in the underground shopping area 'Odakyu Ace' of Shinjuku Station west exit. It was founded 72 years ago. Their ever-popular matcha soft serve ice cream is the perfect balance of ice cream’s sweetness with tea’s natural bitterness and its smooth taste will melt in your mouth along with a hint of bitter matcha.

2. Kobe Beef
If you are short in time to visit Kobe to try the Kobe Beef then Tokyo is probably your best option to try this amazing breed of Japanese Beef. The Melt-in-your-mouth wagyu beef is a food that gives you pure bliss. The more expensive the cut gets, the better the quality and soften the texture. While we didn't get the most expensive cut, the one we tried was already super top quality and the beef literally melted in our mouth.

3. Katsu Midori Sushi
There are a lot of options of eating sushi in Japan - the choices are enormous and at the end of the day, it really depends on how much money you are willing to spend to taste the best and the freshest sushi. If you are looking for value-for-money then Katsu Midori is the place you wanna go. They have a wide selection of Sushi and the menu start at a low price point of 100円 and goes up to 600 Yen where you can find unique combinations of sushi.

4. World’s Second Best Freshly Baked Melon-Pan Ice Cream
Despite a crust that resembles the rind of the melon, this classic Japanese pastry is not melon-flavored. The buns were crispy on the outside yet fluffy on the inside. They serve the highly regarded melon pan with ice cream - The toasty, buttery and slightly salty complement the sweet vanilla ice cream, making it the perfect dessert for all occasions, be it on a winter day or a summer day.

5. Mister Donut
If you are craving for a good donut in Japan, then Mister Donut is probably the way to go. With over 1100 shops throughout Japan, you should be able to find one nearby where ever you are. What distinguishes Mister Donut from other fast food chains is their variety of donuts that you can get at a really cheap price. Their signature donut is called pon-de-ring, a very chewy sugar coated donut that makes you feel like you're eating mochi. However, in this visit, we order a classic hot-jam donut just because we were craving for one really bad.

6. Jack In The Donut
If you are around Akihabara area and fancy delicious-smelling donuts then head to Jack in the Donuts store near the entrance to Yodabashi Camera. The doughnuts are baked fresh each day, there was no grease or oil, and the dough was nice and firm.

Ok, guys, that’s it from us. Hopefully, we’re closing this Japan series with a bang. We are so in love with Japan and it was a trip that we will always remember...The culture, the people, and most importantly the food is the reason we wish to come here to this lovely country again.

JAPANESE CONVENIENCE STORE SHOPPING | KONBINI VLOG: TOKYO, JAPAN

I'm in Japan! One of the best things about being in Tokyo is the convenience stores (or konbini). Japan probably has the most convenient convenience stores in the world because they have EVERYTHING you could possibly need. In fact, you could live off them - which is what I did for the day.

In my first Japan vlog, I take a tour of Family Mart and 7 Eleven, trying some of Tokyo's convenience store food. There's siapao, chicken and LOTS of matcha.

Since it's a sunny day in Tokyo, we decide to enjoy our convenience store food in Shinjuku Park. The cherry blossoms are just starting to bloom because spring is starting in Tokyo, so it's a lovely place to enjoy some takeaway food.

Afterwards, we head to 7 Eleven for a hot drink and, later on, head to another 7 Eleven convenience store for dinner.

At the end of the night, I finish this Tokyo vlog by showing you the VERY convenient vending machines. You can get pretty much anything from a vending machine in Tokyo - just another reason why I LOVE Japan!

I'll be posting more Japan travel guides and Japan vlogs over the next 5 weeks or so. My travel videos go live every Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30PM GMT, and I'm also sharing a bonus Philippines series every Friday at 9AM GMT for the next few weeks too.

As always, thanks for watching!

Today we’re gonna do a we're having some of the craziest wackiest sweets and Tokyo food guide. What do you think?

It seems Harajuku is known for its Japanese sweets. There’s a lot of variety here.

repes are almost a must in hard you cool. You’ll find there’s many of these crate stores around. So there’s one crepe place here and one there.

And they offer a wide wide variety. There are some with like eggs and meats and stuff like that. It’s not only sweets. There’s pizza tuna for example always a classic right?

Calbee chips, these are all fresh made potato chips. Oh my God and you’ve got potato chips with ice cream, chocolate and chocolate, double cheese. I kind of want to get one of these weird ones like maple sera up cream cheese. It’s kind of tempting also the ice cream with chocolate on it.

@Gram is known for having this jiggly fluffy pancakes. I didn’t know was that popular.

Continued later.
