JAPANESE SUPERMARKETS - FOOD HAUL FOR 3,000¥ | LIFE IN JAPAN | The Tao of David

Japanese Supermarket Food Haul! Yes, it's time to do a weekly food shop at a Japanese Supermarket, although I hope it'll last more than a week!

I set myself a budget of 3,000 Yen (about 26 USD) to buy some food to keep me going at my Workaway in terms of cooking proper meals rather than eating out. How does Supermarket food in Japan compare to Japanese Convenience stores, ie Family Mart, Lawson & 7/11?

You can check out my Japanese Conbini Videos in the Playlists below where I challenged myself to survive on 1000 Yen a day at regular Convenience Stores and 1000 Yen a week at Lawson 100 (Japanese 100 Yen store)

FOOD HAUL! ARGH!

If you're planning a Japan trip, looking for Things to Do in Japan, or maybe you're looking to stay in Japan for longer, this is my 'Life in Japan series' detailing my life over the next three months.

As well as working in a hostel in Hiroshima (Workaway), I am teaching English online on Italki and Preply as well as continuing my YouTube channel.

Exploring Akihabara Food Shopping Anime and Japanese Pancakes - vlog #034 part 1

On today's agenda we'll be exploring Akihabara in Tokyo, Japan. As a kid who grew up on anime and manga, I always dreamed of visiting the holy land. Jokes aside, I'm really visiting Akihabara to go to Yodobashi Akiba in order to get Canon G7X fixed so I can continue to vlog! The flip screen became unhinged due to a missing screw. Yodobashi Akiba is actually the world's largest electronic store, and I can attest that it is massive!!! Don't be fooled though, this store sells almost everything besides produce/groceries and is a great place to shop at especially for electronics.

We'll also be doing a food tour around Akihabara and the first stop is Pablo mini which is actually a chain that serves some delicious cheese tarts. As the name suggest the mini serves more individual size portions. If you go to the regular Pablo store you can buy bigger cheesecakes. These delicious treats have a crumbly crunchy crust and a sweet cream cheese filling. The Pablo mini has 5-6 different cheese tarts and some of the flavors are seasonal.

Inside Yodobashi Akiba on the top floor where a bunch of restaurants reside, we'll be eating at The French Toast Factory and get the infamous Japanese Jiggly Pancake. These pancakes are very different from normal pancakes which are usually more flat and thin. I've seen so many videos of these over the internet and today is the day when I finally can try them to see if the hype is real.

Afterward we'll be checking out the other restaurants on the outside of Yodobashi such as Beard Papa, which specializes in soft crispy cream puffs and take a stroll to through the Square Enix Cafe which is a gaming themed cafe that changes there theme and menu. During the time that I went it was a Dragon Quest cafe, and from previous pictures that I've seen it was also a Final Fantasy cafe before.

Stay tuned for part 2 on our Akihabara tour!

JAPAN CONVENIENCE STORES - A Conbini Guide at Lawson 100 Yen Store! | The Tao of David

JAPAN CONVENIENCE STORES - A Conbini Guide at Lawson 100 Yen Store! - Japan's Conbinis (or Konbinis) are amazing! Family Mart, 7/11, Lawson and others provide an easy option to living on a budget in Japan.

But is Japan a budget backpacker destination? In this video I set out to prove that you don't just need to go to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Australia as a budget backpacker. Japan is ideal if you are prepared to shop at Lawson 100, Japan's 100 Yen store (Dollar stores/Pound Shops), located in cities like Tokyo and Osaka.

Living on a budget in Japan is possible! In this video I show you how you can survive on a basic budget of 1,000 Yen per week (about $10 USD). Thanks to one of my viewers, Rodd Roddy for suggesting I make this video!

JAPAN'S CONVENIENCE STORES ARE THE BEST! - MY CONBINI GUIDE - The Tao of David

JAPAN CONVENIENCE STORES - A CONBINI/KONBINI GUIDE! Looking for cheap food in Japan? Japan's Conbinis, or sometimes spelt as Konbinis (Family Mart, 7/11 and Lawson Station) provide travellers and tourists with a cheap alternative to eating out in restaurants or eating street food.

I absolutely love Conbinis! They are so different from Family Mart and 7/11 in other countries as they provide such a fantastic variety of both Japanese food and Western Food, from Onigiri (Seaweed Rice Triangle) to Egg Sandwiches and more.

In this video, First World Traveller takes a look around all 3 major Convenience store chains as well as the lesser known Mini Stop in Tokyo showing you how you can survive on a budget of 1,000 Yen per day (around $9-10 USD in July 2017.

Japanese Supermarket Exploration - 日本のスーパー- Japan As It Truly Is

A look at the many items in a big modern Japanese supermarket. This one is new and larger than average. You can see a lot about a country by what they eat, and what is popular. If you ever have a chance, by all means walk into one - you can also get some food and eat like one of the locals.

Shopping in Tokyo - Japan

Shopping in Tokyo - Japan
World Travel
Japan - Tokyo Travel Guide, Tourism
With impeccable service, overwhelming choice, fantasy-land buildings, tradition, technology and lashings of kitsch, it's easy to be bitten by the shopping bug in Tokyo.

Key areas:

The main shopping areas in Tokyo are: stylish Ginza, with its ritzy department stores, designer boutiques and chic galleries; young, trendy Shibuya for clothes and accessories; the 'youth mecca' of Harajuku for teenage fashions and kitsch; and Akihabara for a vast selection of cut-price electronic goods and computers.

Markets:

In a country that thrives on fish, the auctions at Tsukiji Ichiba, 5-2-1 Tsukiji, Chuo-ku, the world's largest fish market, prove that it's worth getting up at 0500 after all.

Shopping centres:

For traditional department store shopping in Tokyo, visit Mitsukoshi on Chuo-dori, or the newer Roppongi Hills complex, Minato-ku, where food and entertainment are also thrown in.

If shopping in a reconstructed Italian villa is your idea of heaven, visit Venus Fort, 1 Aomi Koto-ku. For wacky, kitsch shopping 24 hours a day, check out Don Quijote (locally known as Donki) across the city, but particularly at 3-14-10 Roppongi Minato-ku.

Oriental Bazaar, 5-9-13 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, sells yukatas, kimonos, lacquered boxes, wooden sake cups, tea serving sets and any other Japanese handicraft you can think of to take home.

Opening hours:

Standard shopping hours in Tokyo are 1000-2000, although some shops are open 24 hours a day.

Tax information:
A 5% consumption tax is added to most goods, although some shops will refund this if you have your passport with you and spend over a certain amount.

JAPANESE CONVENIENCE STORE SHOPPING | KONBINI VLOG: TOKYO, JAPAN

I'm in Japan! One of the best things about being in Tokyo is the convenience stores (or konbini). Japan probably has the most convenient convenience stores in the world because they have EVERYTHING you could possibly need. In fact, you could live off them - which is what I did for the day.

In my first Japan vlog, I take a tour of Family Mart and 7 Eleven, trying some of Tokyo's convenience store food. There's siapao, chicken and LOTS of matcha.

Since it's a sunny day in Tokyo, we decide to enjoy our convenience store food in Shinjuku Park. The cherry blossoms are just starting to bloom because spring is starting in Tokyo, so it's a lovely place to enjoy some takeaway food.

Afterwards, we head to 7 Eleven for a hot drink and, later on, head to another 7 Eleven convenience store for dinner.

At the end of the night, I finish this Tokyo vlog by showing you the VERY convenient vending machines. You can get pretty much anything from a vending machine in Tokyo - just another reason why I LOVE Japan!

I'll be posting more Japan travel guides and Japan vlogs over the next 5 weeks or so. My travel videos go live every Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30PM GMT, and I'm also sharing a bonus Philippines series every Friday at 9AM GMT for the next few weeks too.

As always, thanks for watching!
