For this Tel Aviv, Israel, food tour, we hooked up with my friend David ( to eat some of the best food in Tel Aviv, including a few true gems of Israeli and Middle Eastern food.

Our first stop was in Jaffa, the old area of Tel Aviv, just south of the main city. It’s an ancient Biblical city, and I was excited to visit. Located in Jaffa is Abu Hassan, one of the most legendary and standards of hummus in Tel Aviv.

Abu Hassan - Located in a peaceful area of Jaffa, this restaurant is always packed and busy full of people hungry for hummus, ful, and musabaha. it’s truly a legendary place and the hummus was of the sticky and smooth variety. I think my favorite thing was the musabaha, like hummus, but with whole chickpeas. They also offer a mix of hummus, ful, and musabaha all in a single bowl which is excellent.
Total price - 72 ILS ($20.95)

Sabich Tchernichovsky - An Iraqi Jewish food in Israel, sabich is a pita filled with eggplant and hard boiled eggs, and a selection of salad and condiments. David says that there’s no doubt Sabich Tchernichovsky makes the best sabich in Israel, and I was very impressed. He assembled the pita so slowly and perfectly, adding layer upon layer of eggplant, egg, and salad. It was truly one of the best vegetarian (but with egg) sandwiches I’ve ever had.
Price - 21 ILS ($5.87)

Falafel Johnny Benin - Next to Sabich Tchernichovsky, is Falafel Johnny Benin, a legendary Tel Aviv falafel hole in the wall restaurant. I ordered a half of a falafel sandwich, with salad and tahini. It was delicious, and freshly cooked.
Half falafel pita - 9 ILS ($2.51)

Carmel Market - Carmel Market is one of the most well known of all open air flea markets in Tel Aviv. You’ll find everything there, including a nice food section.

HaBasta Restaurant - Located on a side street of Carmel Market, is HaBasta, a gourmet market fresh restaurant. They served us some very fresh and interesting dishes. The crab was delicious, and the fried veal brain was amazing, but I especially loved the cherry salad.
Total price - 400 ILS ($111.72)

Pronto Restaurant - Owned by the renowned Chef David Frankel, Pronto is a refined Israeli Italian and Mediterranean restaurant. The food was extremely high quality, and the flavors were very subtle and delicious. We were planning to pay for our meal, but David knows the chef very well, and Chef David wouldn’t allow us to pay. Delicious high end gourmet food.

Jasmino - This was probably my favorite food on this entire Israeli food tour of Tel Aviv, Jasmino, specializing in grilled meat pita. The owner, another extremely kind man, ordered me the sweetbreads pita, grilled thymus and bottom part of lamb throat glands, with salad and tahini. It was extraordinary. My kind of a place.
Price - 28 ILS ($7.82)

And that completed our Tel Aviv food tour!

There are few cities in the world that can compare to Jerusalem in terms of ancient history and religious significance. It’s one of the most fascinating cities in the world, and it’s a city that I’ve wanted to visit my entire life. Finally, along with my friend David ( and Rafram, we explored Jerusalem to discover the food treasures the city has to offer - and let me tell you, you’ll find some incredibly delicious food in Jerusalem!

We started off the Jerusalem food tour by first walking around East Jerusalem and starting with the best plate of hummus I’ve ever had. We then toured around Old Jerusalem, and enjoyed some incredible Palestinian food kebabs cooked by an incredible man who cooked with serious love and passion. Another highlight in Jerusalem was the mutabak, a thin pastry stuffed with cheese and baked.

After eating our way through Old Jerusalem, we then headed into West Jerusalem and went to lunch at an Israeli Jewish restaurant serving a mix of amazing dishes. The food was home-cooked in style, and absolutely sensation. A few more snacks and sightseeing throughout the afternoon, and that brought us all the way to dinner where David had made reservations to eat at one of the hottest restaurants in Jerusalem, Machneyuda Restaurant. It was quite an experience, and an amazing meal and lively atmosphere to wrap up this ultimate Jerusalem food tour.

Here’s all the food and places included in this Palestinian food and Israeli food tour of Jerusalem:

Hummus Acramawi
Price - 20 ILS ($5.57) per plate

It was a lot of food in a single day, but it was one of the greatest food and learning days that I’ve ever had in my life. The generosity of the people we connected with, paired with the food, was truly a memorable experience in Jerusalem.

Thank you again to David ( and Rafram for showing me some of the best food in Jerusalem!

BEST STREET FOOD IN JERUSALEM // ISRAEL-PALESTINE TRAVEL VLOG

Street food in Jerusalem in delicious! We started the day off with empty stomachs and slowly filled them up as we tried as many street foods as we could in Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda Market before the market closed for Shabbat. We both agree that the most delicious food we tried was Sufganiyot (Israeli doughnut), while the most entertaining food was Malawach. We loved walking around the market and trying all the foods that caught our eye!

We have included the price of each food item in the video to give you an idea of the cost of food in Israel. Spoiler alert - it is not cheap! Israel is a very expensive place to travel to which is something you will want to keep in mind if you are planning to visit. We are believers in learning about a place through the cuisine, so we were happy to spend a little more than we normally would to get a better feel for the huge variety of food that can be found in Jerusalem. If you are the same, watch this video in full to see where to eat in Jerusalem, what to eat in Jerusalem, and what people in Israel eat! We feel confident we found some of the best street food in Jerusalem and hope you enjoy coming along with us as we give it a try!

Tel Aviv is a bustling, young city with a food scene heavily influenced by the countries that surround it, as well as a focus of vegetarian/vegan food. In this episode, we partnered with Delicious Israel to learn about the origin of the food, the fresh ingredients used and the best places to find them. Inbal, the founder of Delicious Israel, showed us all around the Carmel Market, and located some AWESOME street food & hidden gems inside. Thank you Inbal and Delicious Israel! We started our day with Sabich for breakfast, a very popular street food you can eat almost any time of the day (so healthy!), and then a Turkish dessert, Malebi with Arabic coffee. Then, we enter the Carmel Market to sample some local spices and enjoy two types of hummus. Next, Inbal takes us to a local kitchen to eat Yemini food, a bread that is fried with egg and with hummus and zhug (SPICY!). We then try Syrian cookies, and stopped by a stall making fresh pitas. We end the day with a fresh, street-side falafel. All food featured in this video was paid for in full by us.

Home Cooked ISRAELI JEWISH FOOD + Levy's SHAWARMA in Aventura, Florida!!

???? TAL:
???? YAEL:
???????? LEVY’S SHAWARMA:

As you guys know, one of my biggest passions is to experience cuisines from around the world. So when I linked up with my friend Tal, a.k.a. The Traveling Clatt, I knew we had to go on a full-out Israeli Jewish food tour in Miami, Florida!

Tal and I started out with breakfast at his home, where his mom would make us some traditional Israeli Jewish dishes. She has a home cooking business!

???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

The food she prepared looked amazing. It’s all traditional Israeli Jewish food! We started with some milky arak, which we mixed with a bit of water to cut it. It would have been too strong otherwise!

We started with the jachnun, which is a sweet, log-shaped pastry from Yemen. It was soft and buttery, and came with some tea eggs, which are eggs boiled in tea! We ate the jachnun with some shredded tomatoes with harissa.

The egg was brown on the inside and had the aroma of the tea. You unroll the jachnun layer by layer and wrap a bit of egg in it. Then, you dunk it into the tomatoes! It was fantastic, even though it was dough, butter, and margarine.

I loved adding the tahini to the jachnun. It added a creamy element and a whole new layer of flavor! Then, we jumped on the malawach, a type of fried flatbread from Yemen.

You can add eggs to it and dunk it into the tomato salsa. It’s so crispy and flaky. It’s very similar to a paratha and went so well with the tahini. I loved that everything we were eating was from a mix of cultures throughout the Middle East!

Next were bourekas, which are the kosher, Israeli version of the burek you’ll find in the Balkans. They’re often stuffed with potatoes or cheese, but can also be stuffed with ground beef or lamb. You can put an egg in it as well!

It was airy, crispy, and flaky, and stuffed with cheese. The boureka was so tasty and layered I had to have another one! We followed that with an Israeli salad, which is a Mediterranean salad containing tomatoes, onions, cucumber, oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

We finished with the shakshuka, which is a thick, pasty tomato dish containing bell peppers, garlic, and onions, and topped with sunny side up eggs and parsley. It was incredible with the Israeli pita and the tahini!

Then, we saw Tal’s Jurassic Park cars, including a Jeep Wrangler made to look like the first movie! We arrived at Levy’s Shawarma. They’ve changed their logo to the Avengers font!

Inside, we saw them roasting the shawarma, plating five salads, frying falafel, grilling pita, and more!

At our table, we had several dishes: lamb, turkey, and chicken shawarma; schnitzel; falafel; chametz (sour pickled carrots, radish, celery, and pickles); pinto beans with rice and noodles.

The falafel with the hummus and tahini was rich, fluffy, silky, and unique. I loved the crispy chicken schnitzel, soft fries, and sour chametz. It was a nice, crunchy palate cleanser!

The shawarma with the cabbage, tabbouleh, fried onions, fried eggplant, and tahini blew my mind. It was the perfect mix of spice, savoriness, sourness, and crunchiness!

Finally, the chocolate babka was a rich, layered cake! It’s non-dairy and was so good!

I don't normally eat at very many high end fancy restaurants like this. But my friend David ( invited me to eat at Eyal Shani's flagship restaurant in Tel Aviv known as Ha Salon (The Salon), saying it was one of the most unique restaurants you'll ever try. So thank you to David for getting reservations and for covering this meal.

It turned out to be very exciting, with a full open kitchen where you could watch all the food being prepared in front of you. It was lively, and the food was prepared with extremely high quality ingredients.

A couple things for you to know:
1. It's extremely expensive
2. It's a very party environment, so don't come here for a quiet relaxed date where you can have a conversation.

Jerusalem's BEST Street Food Guide - PALESTINIAN HUMMUS NINJA + HUGE Old Jerusalem Street Food Tour!

BEST Jerusalem STREET FOOD Tour 2019 - Palestinian Food

Become a member for exclusive bloopers & private livestream:

Welcome to another episode of Chopstick Travel. Today we take you on the ultimate street food tour through the Holy city of Old Jerusalem, within the city walls only. Old Jerusalem is an ancient area, and is packed with street foods, teas & coffee, fresh produce, historic and religious relics and endless sightseeing opportunities.

We take you to eat some delicious Palestinian food all around the city, starting with the simple Za’atar bread. Next we locate some spiced lamb kebabs, cooked fresh over fire. And to wash down the kebabs, a delicious & cheap hummus! We then find a bizarre yellow sweet, called date bread, as a dessert. After, we head to a famous Palestinian spice shop, where you tell them exactly what you’re going to cook, and they create the perfect spice blend for you. We picked up local spices - za’atar and sumac, as well as a special spice concoction. Next, we take a short break with some street side Arabic coffee, spiced with cardamon. We decide to do some sightseeing to digest some food. Our first sight was a short stop to the Western Wall. Then we visit an ancient sweet shop, over 150 years old for mutabak. We then visit the next sight - the Dome of the Rock, and then the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. To end our insane day of eating street food inside the old city, we pick up a pomegranate/orange juice, freshly pressed, and head to a small shop selling kanefe.

All shops, restaurants and sights are located within the city walls. There aren’t addresses, but using Google Maps, you can type in the name of the shop and it will give you an approximate location. A better option, ask shop owners inside the Old City. They give great directions. Here are the names of the shops/approximate locations:

- Za’atar bread - NEAR DAMASCUS GATE ENTRANCE

- Lamb kebabs - ON SHUK HA-TSORFIM ST. (also near Shaheen Kebab)

- Hummus - ARAFAT HUMMUS

- Date bread - NEXT TO ARAFAT HUMMUS

- Spices - SEA OF HERBS JERUSALEM

- Arabic Coffee - can be found all around the Old City

- Sight #1 - THE WESTERN WALL

- Mutabak - ZALATIMO SWEETS (we had to ask a shop owner for directions)

- Sight #2 - DOME OF THE ROCK

- Sight #3 - CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE

- Pomegranate & Orange Juice - NEAR THE AUSTRIAN HOSPICE

- Kanefe & tea - CONFECTIONERY JAFAR

We’re Thomas and Sheena, food and travel fiends. We travel full time, hunting for the BEST local food in the world to showcase via our YouTube videos. Food is a window into a country's culture and one of the most exciting ways to get to know a place.

We're all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won't find food that's been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just honest food that tastes incredible.

From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best food we find on our travels.
