80 hrs from London to Istanbul by Sleeper Train

Today I’m taking taking the train from London all the way to Istanbul. Crossing 9 countries along the way on a variety of different sleeper trains, high speed trains and down right awful trains! Join me as I travel in the fastest possible time by using only the method of rail to get from one side of the continent of Europe to the other. Starting in London St Pancras, I’ll catch the Eurostar to Paris Gare Du Nord. Next up due to a delay from my previously booked train, I’ll grab a TGV over to Zurich, Switzerland. From there it’s the Austian Nightjet over to Vienna. Thanks to several lucky scrapes, I’m able to grab a 1st class train over to Budapest and catch up with my original itinerary to continue on to Arad, Romania. From Arad I’ll take one Romania’s most luxurious sleeper train over to Bucharest in order to catch my final train over to Turkey. This will be a couchette and it’s fare to say it’s a little rough around the edges.
As always let me know what you think, and if you’d do the same - to travel across Europe by sleeper train. It’s certainly possible with a little patience and a lack of sleep aha.

PARIS
• Musée Gustave Moreau to ascend the signature spiral staircase of the artists house.
• Jardins du Luxembourg to see children with their model sail boats.
• Unmatchable view over Paris from the Sacre Coeur, Montmatre and the Printemps department store roof terrace.
• Wandering the banks of the Seine
AMSTERDAM
• Museum Van Loon - a restored merchant townhouse which resides on the Keizersgracht canal
• Nine Streets boutiques - especially the eclectic store De Weldaad which stocks botanical specimen alongside curious antique objects and hand painted furniture.
• De Kas - the kitchen-garden serves vegetable based dishes, harvested in their back garden in a candlelit greenhouse.
• Delft china shops - Historical scenes from the Netherlands illustrated in authentic blue on china tiles and crockery.
• Van Gogh Museum - the futuristic gallery showcases the works of Van Gogh sequentially through his depictions of peasant life and floral fascination, up until his late turbulent skies and scenery.
• Cycle through Vondel park - under the cool shade of the tree adorned paths.
BERLIN
• Markethalle neun - a collection of world-cuisine food stalls, pick up a locally crafted pretzel.
• The Boros collection - the likes of Ai Wei Wei housed in an old war bunker

In this video we have to catch a flight from iceland to denmark, because we get stranded in Egilsstaðir after missing our ferry to Denmark. We land in copenhagen in denmark and use our interrail pass to catch trains through Scandinavia into germany. we use the eurorail app to book our trains and seat reservations and we travel on 1st class trains all the way to berlin and munich getting further south to our final point in valletta in malta.
a car from reykjavik and attempt to drive to the most eastern point of iceland Egilsstaðir to catch a ferry to Denmark. The roads in iceland were crazy and driving conditions were not easy. should you rent a car in iceland? probably not, we didn't enjoy it

Klar, dies war keine 0815 Zugfahrt, denn wer würde schon durch Länder wie die Türkei, Bulgarien oder Serbien fahren wollen? Und doch gibt es wie immer zwei mehr oder weniger schlaue Herren, die das ausprobieren müssen. Eins kann ich aber vorneweg sagen: Mit dem Interrail Ticket, kommt man fast durch ganz Europa.

Interrailing around Europe in 2016 was on of the best experience in my life. From travelling to USA on multiple occasions and visiting many European countries on separate visits, nothing compares to travelling to many counties on one trip and experience so many different cultures and amazing people along the way.
