I Found a Megalodon Shark Tooth Underwater While Fossil Hunting! (How to Find Shark Teeth)

x

The Best Megalodon Tooth Hunting Site I Ever Found

I don't throw around the word best especially when it comes to hunting megalodon teeth because there have been so many good spots during my 30+ years of collecting, but I feel confident in using it here. I can't believe how lucky I got finding this spot. It was completely untouched and the bottom of the dig was just at the top of the fossil bearing formation. That meant all I had to do was look down in some spots to find teeth, and in the rest, I only had to dig off a foot or two of overburden. There were bones everywhere which is the tell-tale indicator of megalodon and other fossil shark teeth. It didn't take long to dig one out, then another, and another. Then when I walked on the piles after heavy rain there were more big teeth. All together I was able to collect this site for about a week and I found 17 complete megalodon teeth in that short amount of time. I'm not planning on retiring anytime soon, but it is going to be very difficult to top this spot. Summerville, I love you!

Digging a Pile of Megalodon Teeth

We never know what we are going to find when we go digging for megalodon teeth. Sometimes we come home with nothing. Sometimes we only find broken stuff. But on rare occasions, we have a day like today when we are finding big shark teeth left and right and they are all in decent shape. The layer where we find megs is not consistent because everything was shuffled around and deposited by flowing water. Just a few feet can make all the difference between a nothing day and a bag filler. We were on a hot layer band today and it was stuffed with goodies. The megalodon teeth were almost in a pile! I'll let the video do the talking today because it was a GREAT day digging.

Big Shark Tooth Hunting at its Finest

Last week was the first time Diva and I laid eyes on our new shark tooth hunting spot near Charleston South Carolina. We picked up some nice teeth that were exposed and I ended last week's video at our lunch / coffee break. Refreshed and garbed in full digging regalia, we returned that afternoon to dig the new site for the first time. Normally I like to find a spot that looks good and then go to work, but everywhere had potential for incredible finds so it was hard to decide where to concentrate. I jumped around looking for the very best layer, and everywhere I stuck shovel would qualify as worthy at any other spot. Diva did the same. Here and now, only the best formation would do. The water was seeping in fast and everything would soon be underwater, so I dug quickly. I didn't film things I would normally film because as soon as I would dig a spot, the water would rush in and submerge everything. But it was oh so good! The gravel was everywhere and it was thick and chunky and barely covered by a thin layer of sand so it was easy to dig. It wasn't long before I struck big shark tooth paydirt and flipped out a good sized megalodon tooth just as Diva got one. We had been finding smaller teeth for a while but we both breathed a sigh of relief as the site finally gave up some bigger shark tooth fossils. I got on a hot streak and flipped a monster meg soon after, then ANOTHER one. Its the stuff that fills the dreams of slumbering shark tooth hunters. When we close our eyes we dream of this kind of day - giant megalodon teeth littering the collecting grounds and all we have to do is pick them up. The day passed quickly and it was easy to ignore aching backs and blistered hands. Night came as quickly as the water was filling the hole and unfortunately the weather called for rain. We packed up not knowing what to expect for the next day except that we would certainly be back! Would we return the next morning to a flooded memory or would it be just enough rain to wash the piles of material that we dug during this excellent first day of big shark tooth hunting at its finest? I'll let you know next week!

Megalodon Teeth Found!

The hunt for big teeth never stops. When the opportunity comes to collect megalodon teeth we jump on it because it doesn't stick around for long. Megalodon teeth are big so they get picked up as quickly as they are exposed, and any pit where they can be found is short lived at best. The availability of a spot coincided with the arrival of Da fossz, perennial prelate of the BRF western frontier, and he was eager to dip his spade in his megalodon quest. We walked the fields first and found a few teeth but the real action was buried in the dirt. DF struck first with a good 4 inch meg tooth, and throughout his day managed to find a handful of other nice ones. Diva did well so keep an eye on her channel to see what she found, @AncientAdventures . I dug hard but the big shark teeth eluded me until the end of the day when I extracted a nice posterior tooth. Even covered with mud I could tell it was not perfect but I was still happy to find it. Then, late in the day by the light of headlamp I found my prize, a beautiful megalodon tooth in awesome condition.

MONSTER HUNTING | I've never found so many FOSSIL SHARK TEETH!

Hello everyone, my name is Ilya. Few people know, but I have an interesting hobby - paleontology. In this documentary, I want to show you how to hunt for fossil shark teeth and other fossils of the Jurassic and Cretaceous period. Enjoy watching!

How to Find Megalodon Teeth the Hard Way

Unlike some of my other videos, Megalodon teeth are not just laying all over the place like an easter egg hunt for toddlers. Big shark teeth are usually hard to find and we almost always have to dig like we are on prison work release on a roadside ditch digging crew. Here's what that's like! Even though its hard work, its still fun and we do find teeth. Most are broken but I did get lucky to find a nice megalodon tooth at this old spot. Add in a healthy dose of biting and stinging insects and an unrelenting, sweltering Charleston South Carolina summer sun and you can appreciate how to find megalodon teeth the hard way.

Surface Collecting Shark Teeth near Charleston South Carolina

All collecting is good collecting, but my favorite is easy collecting and shark tooth hunting doesn't get much easier than surface collecting where all you have to do is walk around and pick them up. In the Charleston South Carolina area where we hunt often, wicked afternoon thunderstorms are a fact of life in the summer, and while we were out collecting one rolled in so we hunted during the deluge. There were spots where water pooled and we couldn't see so we showed up early the next day to collect what was underwater just the day before and that's where I found my best teeth of this video.

It’s never enough teeth I need more #megalodon #sharkteeth #fossils

My Biggest Megalodon Tooth in 20 Years

I just found the biggest megalodon tooth I have found in 20 years! Diva and I were fossil collecting after work in the dark by headlight and I was digging in an area with the okayest layer of the day. It was basically just green sand. There was not much gravel, and no bones at all. It was the kind of stuff I would normally pass by and look for better layer. But it was the getting late and my back was hurting and I really didn't feel like slogging through the thick mud or removing a bunch of overburden to get to layer I knew was better. I settled for this spot, content to run out the clock on this trip since I already had a 3.5 inch megalodon tooth and a whale tooth. It had already been a good day. I pushed my shovel in and felt it hit something hard. I pulled away the sand and revealed an immense root. Never have I please be wholeed so hard! I cleared away the sand near the tip of the tooth and saw it was all there. The tooth was display / curved / lingual side down. That side is almost always gone. I hesitated to turn it over. I stopped for a brief second to smell the roses and celebrate the moment of discovering such a majestic fossil, to appreciate what I had found, regardless of what the other side looked like. Then I flipped it. In the middle of that muddy hole, surrounded in darkness in the fading light of my headlamp I basked in the joy of my newfound treasure.

This is the biggest megalodon tooth I have found in any video I have ever made for YouTube. Its an absolute monster that truly illustrates just how big these incredible prehistoric monsters were. This unbelievable fossil shark tooth at 6 1/8 inches dwarfs my hand. Its hard to wrap my head around how big this shark actually was with a mouthful of these teeth. I am beyond fortunate to have found this prize!

20 MILLION Year Old Fossils Discovered in Venice Florida! (Megalodon Shark Teeth Hunting)

Finding 20 MILLION year old Megalodon Shark teeth Fossils while scuba diving off the coast in Venice Florida.

If the idea of finding buried treasures in the ocean sounds fun to you, then you should visit Venice Florida. Venice Florida is known as the sharks tooth capital of the world due to its high concentration of fossilized prehistoric shark teeth. The prize Megalodon shark teeth can be found here, which can be up to 70 ft. These apex predators roamed the ocean approximately 3.6 to 23 million years ago.

There are many shark teeth here because 50 million years ago, the when high sea levels submerge a large portion of Florida and it stayed submerged for many millions of years. Besides for the Peace River fossils, there are also fossils from the Pleistocene. In the Pleistocene, from 2.5 million until about 11,000 years ago the Earth was (and still is) in constant glaciations events. During glacial periods, the sea levels would drop, and Florida's land would double in size. Ice Age animals lived here including Mammoths, Dire Wolves, Glyptodonts, Horses, and Giant Ground Sloths. At interglacial periods, the sea levels would rise, covering much of Florida. Sediments would bury and preserve the remains of these Ice Age animals During this time at the bottom of the ocean, Layers of limestone accumulated on the sea floor, creating the bed rock of Florida.
