One Asian guy’s trip through Honduras in 2023.

Hello everyone and Tashi Delek. My name is Pasang. Today, I like to talk a little bit about my trip to Honduras. Honduras is a Central American country with a population of 10.2 million. The weather is hot and tropical in the coast lowlands with Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
In my experience, Honduran people are warm and welcoming.
In Honduras, you will find more people who speak English compared to other central American countries, especially in the Bay Islands of Honduras.
So in my case, that makes much easier to communicate with locals.
Traveling in Honduras is can be adventurous in terms of crime. Unfortunately, this beautiful country suffered for a long from corruption, gangs, drugs, and violence. There are bunches of people talking about crime in this country on YouTube so I rather not talk about the same shit. I just wanna talk about general things.

The government of Honduras is committed to attracting more tourists. By 2020 they expected millions of tourists annually. Clearly, because of the pandemic, that goal wasn’t reached, but in 2020, Honduras recorded a total number of over 660, 000 tourists in the country. That record number is very low. However, tourism is growing each year. because the country is getting safer every day. The government claims there has been a 52% decrease in violent crime over the past five years. In fact, according to InSight Crime, there has definitely been around a 26% drop in crime since 2016. Some people believe that this is due to negotiations between criminal groups and the government. Somehow things getting better and safer.
Every daily shop in Honduras is like this window. Because many shops used to face robbery. These metal bars are mainly to prevent robbery. Actually, its not only in Honduras. I have seen similar this in Guatemala and El Salvador.
In Switzerland, it's the opposite, some small shops in the village are open but no one is there. You can go inside and you have to do purchase it by yourself including payment, honesty is expected. And it works!

Toilets in Honduras are very easy. I see people pee everywhere But I don't know what is it like it if you encounter police while you pee in streets. That's you need to find out by yourself. I normally take the role of toilet paper with me because there is no toilet paper in public toilets. Keep in mind, toilet pipelines in Honduras can't handle toilet paper, which means you have to put the paper in the trash bin, not in the toilet. Otherwise, the toilet will be blocked!
Honduras is racially very diverse.
They have all types of people.
The majority of the Honduran population is Mestizo which is a mix of Spanish and indigenous people. they also have quite a big population of black whom they call Garifuna, who are African descent and came to Honduras during the 18th century. Honduras has one of the largest African communities in Latin America.
The best thing about Honduras is they don't seem to have racial issues towards indigenous people, white and black. I talked with a black man who grew up on the island, and he told me that everyone is equal in mainland Honduras. But in the bay islands, there are some racial challenges due to the growing number of foreigners. Some people want to make the islands more white.
Generally, the crime and violence that happened in this country are not because of racial issues. It's all about money!!!

I think I am a very lucky person! I never had bad experiences while I was traveling in Honduras. I have traveled pretty much all over the country including, San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa which are supposed to be the most dangerous cities in the world. I even went running at night in Tegucigalpa kilometers away from my Hotel. Well, I took nothing with me except the hotel key. I now feel like I have passed the most dangerous cities in the world so there isn't any country left in the world that I fear to go even Somalia or Libya. Maybe a little bit Venezuela
Generally, I am not so scared of criminals because they are also human beings just like me. The criminals have even more fear to commit crimes. Because if they were caught, they will suck.
So I would say don't be scared too much but be smart! If you look scared, you motivate criminals. If you look confident and not scared, criminals will be scared of you. Well, That's only my opinion. Believe it or not, it's your choice.
Thanks for reading!
Peace and love Rasta Pasang.

Hopkins Belize to La Ceiba Honduras - What a trip !! | Backpacking Central America

What a crazy travel day as we leave the coastal town of Hopkins in Belize and continue heading south towards La Ceiba in Honduras. Things don't quite go according to plan - which happens quite often in Central America.

We take a chicken bus to Punta Gorda located at the south of Belize and take a boat over to Puerto Barrios in Guatemala. We stay in a lovely hostel there called El Castillo before getting an early shuttle to the town of La Ceiba in Honduras - Country number 18 for TREAD the Globe.

We were aiming to get the boat across to the island of Utila however travel days don't always go according to plan !!

Hope you enjoy this episode

It’s time to take a break from Vanlife and switch it to the island life! It happened to be in Honduras and we chose one of the most epic islands for that! Utila, we are coming! Ready for scuba diving, snorkeling, white sand beaches, mind blowing views, chill & relax.

HONDURAS | BACKPACKING TRIP 2019 ????????

Honduras was our third country of our backpacking trip through Central America. We started in Copan and visited macaw mountain. Then we traveled to utila to get our open water diving license, visited Lago yojoa and pulhapanzak falls. Many people find Honduras a dangerous country, but these 3 weeks I felt so safe! The people we met were so friendly, the food (baleadas!) were amazing and the nature is absolutely beautiful!!

Couchsurf Honduras | SOLO FEMALE TRAVELER | Ep. 52 | Tegucigalpa

This is why you want to couchsurf ! Although some people ask me whether it is safe to couchsurf in Honduras / Central America / Latin America as a solo female traveler, I believe that by carefully selecting a well reviewed host, you can have the best time exploring a foreign country! What made backpacking and traveling in Central America amazing for me was couchsurfing and hanging out with the locals. Especially in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, I had the best experience couchsurfing with Marlon and his friends. I really saw what his life was like and I got to explore both Tegucigalpa and the nightlife of Tegucigalpa with my couchsurfing host and his friends. I was pleasantly surprised with Tegucigalpa and would recommend you backpackers to visit it! From all the Central American countries so far (starting from Mexico down till Honduras), Tegucigalpa was my favourite of all the Central American capital cities so far. It was really modern and had even a European hipster twist to it.

Solo female traveler's travel documentary on Mexico, Central America and South America. Showing how to travel cheap as a backpacker in Latin America through hitchhiking, CouchSurfing and WorkAway. Showing how to travel safe and alone in Central America: Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Belize as well as Puerto Rico and backpacking in Mexico.
