The complete guide to hiking to the Tiger's Nest, Bhutan (EP1 of Bhutan)

Hey. This is the first video we made for our Bhutan trip - Tiger’s Nest, and we can’t wait to share it with you all!
The Monastery is the most sacred place for Buddhists and the most important landmark for tourists.
We hiked up to 3000m and were rewarded with magnificent mountain vistas, incredible architecture, intricate sculptures, and fascinating mythology tales.

We had heard about it so much- a place for the Buddhist to pay a pilgrimage in his lifetime, a temple with mystical legends, an unusual architecture that build in a cave at a remote location, the spectacular view of the surrounding mountain ranges and a sight o immerse in the Bhutanese culture and spiritual beliefs.

We also write an accompanied blog post. There is much more information there and with numerous images. Here is the link:

Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan - Trekking to the SPECTACULAR Monastery on a Cliff! (Final Day in Bhutan)

Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan is one of the most famous attractions, and the beauty is mind-blowing!
►Subscribe for more videos:

On Day 19 of our food and travel trip to Bhutan, we dedicated the entire day to trekking to Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan (Paro Taktsang in Bhutanese Dzongkha), which sits literally on the edge of a cliff. The hike takes about 3 - 4 hours or so, and since I wanted to beat the main crowds, my wife and I left from the hotel quite early to get a head start. It worked out quite well, because we were some of the only people on the trail that early in the morning. The fresh air was amazing. We wound our way along the trail, and soon we could get amazing views of Tiger’s Nest hidden in the clouds and on the side of the cliff.

The trail, although steep, isn’t really dangerous in any parts, as long as you keep your eye on the trail and don’t try to get too close to the edge. At the top of Tiger’s Nest Monastery they don’t allow any photography, so you have to check in your bag. We walked around the monastery for a little while, ate some snacks, and then headed down.

Despite Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan being one of the most famous attractions and icons of Bhutan, it really is spectacular.

Hiking to TIGER'S NEST Monastery + Spicy BHUTANESE FOOD | Paro, Bhutan

???? MyBhutan:
???????? Visit Bhutan:
???? WATCH: More Bhutan Episodes -

After spending a day exploring the beautiful Haa Valley in Bhutan, I began my eighth and final day in Bhutan with a trip to Tiger’s Nest Monastery! Come along with me as I hike to Tiger’s Nest and enjoy some hot and spicy Bhutanese food in Paro, Bhutan!

Tiger’s Nest is a Buddhist Monastery that clings to the side of a cliff near Paro. It’s the number one tourist attraction in the country and is the main thing I wanted to see on my trip. But first, I had to have some breakfast with my friend and guide Tsheten from MyBhutan!

My traditional breakfast consisted of a large, dense wheat ball, super spicy ezay, and chicken curry with chilies. It was a dense and hearty meal perfect for the weather, but it wasn’t my favorite breakfast overall.

Next, we had a two-hour drive ahead of us to Paro. We took the same road we came in on because the only other road in and out of Haa was under construction. Along the way, I saw the second-tallest mountain in Bhutan, Jomolhari. After an hour and 45 minutes, we entered Paro Valley and eventually the city itself.

In town, we stopped at the same shop I stopped at on my first day in Bhutan to buy a mask. I bought a beautiful blue one with skulls around its crown for 8,500 Nu/$112.57 USD. It was so worth the price! Then, we drove 20 minutes to the trail to Tiger’s Nest.

You have to hike the path through a forest to get there. It was brutal and the sun was scorching. I made it to the halfway point 50 minutes in and stopped at Taktsang Cafeteria to have a quick lunch of red rice, scrambled eggs, chili, potato, radish, and dal.

The potatoes were good and hot, while the radish was nice and creamy. I added some of the gravy from the radishes to the rice. I decided to leave the chilies alone and give myself a break from the heat. The scrambled eggs were nice and oily.

It was a lot steeper going forward. I could see Tiger’s Nest and a couple of other monasteries. I got a closer view of three or four of the monasteries I saw earlier. At the viewpoint, I got a gorgeous view of Tiger’s Nest. I wouldn’t be able to film or take photos inside, but this was the experience of a lifetime.

Finally, we made it to the security check, where I had to pack up all of my stuff and put it in a locker.

My experience at Tiger’s Nest Monastery was one for the ages! It’s a beautiful, 17th-century monastery and is a must-visit when you come to Bhutan. I suggest starting at 8 in the morning. It’s made up of shrines dedicated to the second Buddha and is incredible. I lit a butter lamp to pray for my friends and family and everyone affected by COVID-19 while I was there.

Then, we had to climb back down to the car. The hike down was more difficult than I anticipated. You have to go super slow because it’s easy to slip. In all, the trip took 4 hours!

From there, we headed to the Rinpung Dzong, which is the fortress of Paro. It was built before Tiger’s Nest in the 17th century. The fortress was gorgeous and reminded me of Punakha Dzong Fortress. Inside are colorful paintings of gods on the walls, courtyards, administrative buildings, and the central tower.

About 160 monks live in the fortress. There was a lower level, where there’s a balcony where you can see a palace in the distance that offers the best view of Paro. You can see the main town, the rice fields, and the river.

There were also roosters roaming the fortress because in the olden days, there were no alarm clocks, so the roosters wake them up in the morning!

While you trekking in Tiger's Nest you will see the beautiful mountains and nature view of Bhutan. After reach, you will see the temple. Inside you guys will see lots of temples inside the monastery.
What is Tiger’s Nest?
A temple complex was first built in 1692, around the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days, and three hours in the 8th century. Padmasambhava is credited with introducing to Bhutan and is the tutelary deity of the country. Today, Paro Taktsang is the best known of the thirteen Taktsang or tiger lair caves in which he meditated.
The temple devoted to Padmasambhava (also known as Guru mTshan-brgyad Lhakhang, the Temple of the Guru with Eight Names) is an elegant structure built around the cave in 1692 by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye. It has become the cultural icon of Bhutan. A popular festival, known as the Tsechu, held in honor of Padmasambhava, is celebrated in the Paro valley sometime during March or April.

A travel film from my recent trip to Bhutan. You cannot miss the Tiger's Nest Trek if you go to Bhutan. A medium difficulty trek which roughly takes around 3 hours. The view during and from the trek is just mind-blowing.

This is hopefully one of the many films on my trip to Bhutan :)

Taktsang is a monastary located at the upper valley of Paro on a cliffside of the hill. About 2 hours drive from the Capital city Thimphu .The scenic beauty of the place will keep you alive . We donot need to carry must stuff with us as there is a cafeteria on the way to Tiger Nest . It only takes about 1 hours to reach the Tiger Nest . And from Tiger Nest to reach the top where meditation took place it hardly take 20 mins. While hiking please do follows the rules of the place and never touch any items that are related to the religion .If you are planing for a trip in Bhutan than Tiger nest must the 1st place to visit . the place is very peacefull .

Bhutan Travel || The Trek to Tiger's Nest A.K.A Paro Taktsang Monastery.

This is one spot that 99% of the tourists who visit Bhutan make sure they don't miss. Even those who come on quick trips. I did this only because of the astounding location the Monastry was placed on, makes it so hard not to see! Apparently, Guru Rimpoche, around 4 centuries back flew on the back of a tiger (hence the name Tiger's nest) to this unachievable place and meditated for 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, 3 days and three hours... The monastery has a very significant place in Buddhism in Bhutan.

The Tigers nest is around 30 mins drive from our hotel and Paro City. We start early, well, kind of... Also, the Trek upward is supposed to take around 3 hours and downwards around 2 hours. So, we carry a backpack with water bottles, biscuits, oranges and stuff. The elevation gained is almost a kilometre high, covered in ~7 walking kilometres.
