May 2018, we witnessed overwhelming mountainous landscapes that were so pure in its rawness, hiking through the vastly untouched nature from Valbona to Theth. From lush greeneries brimming with life to glistening white snow, it took us 7-8 hours to complete this trail - but we are city people from Singapore, our highest hill being 164m above sea level ;)
Unfamiliar with such 'pathless' trekking, we decided to engage Choose Balkans for a 3 days 2 night tour and it turned out to be a right decision.

Since we are a travel channel, here's some facts from our (very small) part of the world - the sunny island of Singapore!

Valbonë is a village in the Kukës County, northern Albania. It is part of the former municipality Margegaj, and situated in the valley of the river Valbonë, south of the mountain Maja e Thatë. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Tropojë. As one of the main settlements of Valbonë Valley National Park, it provides appropriate accommodation for visitors and tourists, mostly in typical alpine houses or inns.

INSANELY BEAUTIFUL mountain village! FIRST IMPRESSIONS of Albanian Alps - THETH, ALBANIA TRAVEL VLOG
We are finally in the beautiful mountain village of Theth, Albania!
We had a van picked-up us from our hostel in Shkoder to our accommodation in Theth. The van costed 1500 lek/person. We stayed at a beautiful cabin with mountain view at Logu i Harushave. The stay + meals were included. We cannot say enough how fresh and delicious the food was!
We didn't do much on our first day in Theth other than walking around and exploring the lovely village itself. Walking around the village felt so magical...so fairytale-ish!

BACKPACKING THE BALKANS ????Valbonë National Park
In this episode, I completed arguably the best hike in all of Albania. Trekking one-way from Valbona to Theth. This adventure started out at The Wanderers Hostel in Skoder. I left my big bags there and packed a small adventure bag to last me a few days. Day 1 included a bus, ferry and another vehicle to get to the town of Valbonë where we stayed at Guesthouse Arben Selimaj. Then the next day, we embarked on the bike hike to Theth which took us exactly 6 hours covering over 15km and over 800m of elevation. In Theth we stayed at Guesthouse Dreni. And then the day after that, we made our way via bus back to Skoder and pick up the big bags from the hostel.

Is travelling solo safe? - I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government's guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

HIKING in the ALBANIAN ALPS | HIKING from VALBONA to THETH ???????? | Ryan Pelle
The Valbona to Theth hike in Northern Albania is the ultimate hiking adventure. The ferry ride crossing Lake Koman is one of the most spectacular in the world. The quaint villages of Valbona and Theth would leave you pinching yourself just to check that you're not dreaming. The actual hike is incredibly beautiful which made me wonder why I haven't heard of this place before.
I did this hike in May 2022 so there's still plenty of snow on the mountain, which made the hike a little too dangerous for my liking, if I'm honest. But you know, you gotta live a little :)
If you're fan of outdoor activities and hiking in particular, this should be on your list. If not, I hope this video convinces you to visit Albania and do this hike as well.
Albania may have a dark past, but it will be one of the most popular hiking and adventure travel destinations in the coming years, so go now before it gets too busy!

Theth, a remote exquisite beauty. Is there a 'road to hell' leading to the paradise of Theth? Not when you're in the passenger seat and actually enjoying the ride of a lifetime. This is how we ended our 3 days in the Albanian Alps on a high. Peaks of the Balkans Trail | Valbona to Theth, Albania
After spending a relaxing night on Komani Lake, we made our way to Valbona for the very popular Valbona to Theth hike, a one-day trek that takes you between these two charming villages.
The hike took us around 9 hours and we enjoyed every minute of the dramatic terrain of the Accursed Mountains. The mountains are rugged and breathtakingly beautiful!
We stayed for a couple of nights in Theth and did a day hike to the beautiful and bone chilling cold, Blue Eye. We both went for a (quick) swim and it was most certainly the coldest water we have ever been in before!
This area of Albania was probably what we were most excited for in the country and it still managed to exceed all of our expectations!

Valbonë to Theth Hike Vlog | Albania's GREATEST HIDDEN GEM!
Considered one of the greatest hidden hikes in Europe... the 3 day, 2 night journey from Valbonë to Theth takes you back in time and provides an inside look as to what life was like in rural Albania in the early days.
Day 1: Catch a ride from Shkodër to Koman and take the boat along Lake Komani (2.5 hours) to Fierzë. Once on the other side of the lake, take another ride transfer to Valbonë where you sleep for the first night!
Day 2: Hike for about 6-8 hours (17km) from Valbonë to Theth. Once you arrive in Theth you can either catch a ride back to Shkodër or stay the night and explore the surrounding region!
