Hawaii Volcanoes National Park | GoTraveler PASSPORT

One of the best ways to see volcanoes in Hawaii is at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The park surrounds two super volcanoes, including Mauna Loa, the biggest volcano in the world. One of the things you should do is hike to flowing lava. National Park Service shares that you can hike and bicycle along the gravel emergency access route at the end of Chain of Craters Road to view and access lava as it flows down the Pūlama Pali and spreads out onto the coastal lava plain in the national park, and towards the ocean.

Lava Creates New Land in Hawaii

Lava from Kilauea Volcano reaches the Pacific Ocean after a seven mile journey and adds new land to the Big Island of Hawaii. The land shown in the video is just a few weeks old. Lava from a tube just under the surface explodes high into the air as it meets the cold water from the Pacific Ocean.

Recorded November 28, 1998

Kilauea Volcano destruction (Fissure 8, 2023) - Big Island, Hawaii 4K Drone footage

During the 2018 eruption of the Kilauea volcano, the ground suddenly opened up in the inhabited area and changed the entire landscape within a few days. 700 residential buildings were buried under the flowing lava. 5 years after the eruption, hot vapors are still erupting.
This is the power of the Mother Nature that Hawaiians are aware of and live with, as volcanoes are an important and permanent part of the local landscape and culture.

New Lava Eruption in Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii

The main activity at Kilauea Volcano shifted to outside the east side of the Pu'u O'o vent on July 21, 2007. This is a very vigorous eruption along the fissures on the east rift zone. This eruption is producing flows which have created lava ponds with spattering centers and overflowing sides.

This video was recorded on July 23, 2007 from the west side of the Kupaianaha shield.

Lava Burns Road in Hawaii

A slow moving lava flow covers the last remaining stretch of road that had been spared in previous years. The thick, black smoke is caused by the burning of the tar binder in the asphalt aggregate.

Recorded August 20, 2002.

The road was located next to the Highcastle viewpoint, which is about 1.5 miles from the present end of Chain of Craters Road. The lava originated seven miles away and 2500 feet higher in Pu'u O'o, which is the active vent on the flank of Kilauea Volcano.

JINXED VOLCANO - ERUPTION OF HAWAIIAN KILAUEA VOLCANO in 2021 (The Art of Volcano Eruption)

JINXED VOLCANO - ERUPTION OF KILAVEA VOLCANO 2021 – Re-issued of 2021 version

Sometimes it seems to me that Kilauea Volcano is jinxed – at least for me.
When I visited Big Island of Hawaii first time back in 2010 volcano erupted in one of the minor surprising eruption on very first day we came there - traveling directly from Eyjafjallajökull Volcano Eruption in Iceland.

Eruption of Kilauea that time however small put everybody on hysterical safety alert so one couldn’t see anything because warnings for “personal safety” (quite diferent from Icelanding safety measures).

So 8 years later in the end 2018 I was on the way to Kilauea again during long lasting eruption of 2018. Unfortunately on August 23 2018 – exactly the day I suppose to land in Hilo on Big Island Hurricane Lane hit Hawaii so everything what I’ve planned and already booked to do on Big Island – helicopter’s flight over the volcano, two boat tours around lava fields same as a day hiking tour in lava fields were canceled and so was the flight to Hawaii which was part of the trip to Kamchatka’s Volcanoes Expedition 2018. When I've returned from the trip around the world 3 months later and started preparation for next trip to Hawaii, Kilauea volcano - after months of frantic activities - stopped erupting virtually overnight only to sleep for next 2 years.

Well as a Special Christmas Present 2020 Kilauea started eruption again on December 20 2020…but then you know the story already – it calls COVID-19. So no travels in neither recent past or in the foreseeable future.

On May 26 2021 there is Total Lunar Eclipse in Hawaii - which is always interesting to see - and so far Kilauea Volcano is running steady it's long projected slow eruption. But end of May is still 4 months away and all governments in the world are changing COVID policies on daily basis just to keep us excited – so as I said in the beginning of this article – for me Kilauea seems to be jinxed!

Obviously material in this program is not mine but USGS Daily Updates – but what I’ve tried to do in this program is to show to everybody artistic nature of volcano eruption – that's something I can watch anytime and everywhere.
I've live far too many times in the world of real Creation actions that can humble anybody who loves and understand the Power of the mother Nature and history of our Planet.

Cheers
Jiri

Kilauea Volcano Lava Flow into Ocean, Hawaii

Footage taken while on a boat tour of the Kilauea Volcano lava flowing into the ocean, on the big island of Hawaii in February 2013.

Of all the lava tours, i definitely recommend a boat tour as you are bound to see only steam and smoke form the air and a lot of the lava flow is obscured if you were to try view it from land.

The tour guide pulled a bucket of water from the water and as expected it was quite lot. What you might not see if the rocks that formed on the surface and floated around spouting steam.

Probably one of the most unique experiences that you cant really see anywhere else. At present, the Kilauea volcano is still having one of the most long-lived eruptions known on earth, which started in 1983.
