New Orleans Cemeteries | A Virtual Metairie Cemetery Walking Tour

Andrew drives us through this stunning 65-acre cemetery built on a former horse-racing track.
FULL NOLA PLAYLIST

When it was dedicated in 1872, the trend in cemeteries in the Eastern United States was toward rural memorial parks with landscaped grounds, lakes, and pathways. This aesthetic, combined with New Orleans flair for ornamented, above-ground tombs, creates a cemetery that one can explore all day.

Anne Rice's New Orleans - The Vampire Queen's Life and Legacy

In this video, we share places in New Orleans that were important to Anne Rice's life and work, including her most famous novel, Interview with the Vampire. From an innocuous, working-class Catholic childhood in New Orleans's Garden District and Irish Channel, Anne went on to become a household name, with dozens of novels to her name, plus a trail of restored mansions, more than one upcoming TV series, and one of the most devoted (and strikingly dressed) fandoms in the world. Here we'll share houses she owned and renovated, how her struggle with addiction informed her work, her feud with the founder of Popeyes Fried Chicken, her legacy in New Orleans today, and her final resting place.

Special thanks this time to the incredibly friendly folks at the Garden District Book Shop and Chicory House Coffee!

New Orleans Voodoo (A Virtual Tour)

Shrouded in mystery and secrecy – and often misrepresented by popular culture and Hollywood depictions – Voodoo has long held reign in New Orleans legends, folklore, and history. **MORE VIRTUAL TOURS OF NOLA**

Andrew is joined by Robi on a Virtual New Orleans Voodoo Tour. Robi leads Free Tours by Foot's Voodoo tour, which you can take on your next trip to NOLA:

St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 | 4K New Orleans Cemetery Tour

In this video, Daniel, a tour guide with Free Tours by Foot New Orleans, leads you on a preview of our tour of St. Louis Cemetery #3 in New Orleans. MORE NOLA VIDEOS

Built to beautify death in the aftermath of a yellow fever epidemic, St. Louis Cemetery #3 is one of the great showcases of New Orleans’ above-ground burial tradition, with monuments that sometimes rival the homes of the living.

Those tombs in this City of the Dead honor New Orleanians of many kinds, including the wealthy Creoles who controlled much of 19th-century life, free people of color whose mixed-race birth landed them in a caste largely unknown elsewhere in the U.S., and groups of hopeful immigrants who banded together in both life and death.
