The beautiful village of Hallstatt in Austria is part of the Hallstatt-Dachstein UNESCO World Heritage area. The name Hallstatt means salt settlement. Salt has been mined here since the 2nd millennium BC. Today, visitors are simply in awe of the beautiful lakeside and mountain setting of the village where, for some part, time stood still. The village is a popular day trip destination from Salzburg.

Hallstatt 2017

Hallstatt, Austria in 4K 60FPS

Hallstatt is considered the most beautiful village in Europe, located on Lake Hallstatt's western shore in Austria's mountainous Salzkammergut region. Even if it is just a small village with up to 1000 villagers, every year, more than 1 million tourists come here for some breathtaking views and amazing culture. A funicular railway connects to Salzwelten, an ancient salt mine with a subterranean salt lake, and to Skywalk Hallstatt viewing platform. A trail leads to the Echern Valley glacier garden with glacial potholes and Waldbachstrub Waterfall.

Hallstatt Austria Lake side village - 2

I have been to many places in the world..but this place is spectacular. This Alpine village of Hallstatt
Nestled between the edge of Hallstättersee or Lake Hallstatt and the towering Dachstein mountains, is Austria’s oldest and possibly most photographed village. It is something like a mirage in the dachstein Salzkammergut Lake Region.

Magical Winter in Austria : Hallstatt and other breathtaking lakes in HD

Salzkammergut, Austria

What to see and do in Hallstatt, Austria.

Hallstatt is probably Austria's most photographed village. It is also one of the oldest with a history that goes back at least 7000 years. The combination of delightful houses built on the steep mountain slopes, the glass-like lake, white swans, and welcoming restaurants and cafes is hard to beat. No wonder they have built a replica in China.
Many visitors are day-trippers but the picture-perfect town and spectacular surrounding country deserve more of your time than that. Some days in summer, the crowds can be almost overwhelming but when all the buses depart it takes on a different, cozy complexion. Fortunately there are good accommodation choices.
Allow time to go up into the mountain to the Skywalk which is 350 metres directly above the town then visit the world's oldest salt mine on a guided tour.
Elsewhere in the area there is a gondola to take you to the 5Fingers viewing platform then you can trek, go paragliding or explore the giant ice cave. In winter there is skiing and snow boarding.

GoPro video: Hallstatt, Austria, Unesco (Part2)

The Hallstatt-Dachstein alpine landscape, part of the Salzkammergut, and thus of the Eastern Alps, is one of visual drama with huge mountains rising abruptly form narrow valleys. It’s located in most famous and visited region of Austria. Human activity in the magnificent natural landscape of the Salzkammergut began in prehistoric times, with the salt deposits being exploited as early as the 2nd millennium BC. This resource formed the basis of the area’s prosperity up to the middle of the 20th century, a prosperity that is reflected in the fine architecture of the town of Hallstatt. Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape is part of Unesco World Heritage List. In this first video we'll show Hallstatt some amazing views from the see.

Beautiful village in Austria

Trip To Hallstatt & The Ice Caves | Most Beautiful Village | Austria Travel | Female Solo Traveler |

Hallstatt is a traveler’s paradise. The alpine ambience, the terraced 500-year-old homes and the quaint locales add to its beauty. Aside from strolling the streets of the town, you can visit the local Salt Mine or the Giant Ice Caves!
In this video, I have given an overview of a day trip to Hallstatt & Ice Caves from Salzburg by bus. It takes 2.15 hours by bus to reach Hallstatt. You can buy your bus tickets at the Salzburg train/bus station or directly from the driver. Make sure to put Hallstatt Lahn as the destination which is the bus station. Expect to pay around 35 USD for a round trip. You can get the bus time table and prebook bus tickets online at

Once you reach Hallstatt Lahn, instead of getting down, I recommend you stay put in bus and travel to Dachstein Visitor Center which is at 10 minutes bus ride from Hallstatt town. The Ice cave and sky lift tickets are available at the Dachstein Tourist Center. The cable ride & Dachstein Ice caves combo ticket cost around 44 USD.

Hallstatt is a small town and you can cover the entire place within an hour. Strolling is the best way to spend time here. However, if it interests you, take a boat ride in the lake or visit the town’s bone chapel.

You can also travel to Hallstatt by Train from Salzburg, but it will drop you off on the other side of the lake and you will need a boat trip to reach Hallstatt. I prefer the bus option as it saves you about half an hour each way.

Bus Numbers to Remember – 150 to Bad Ischal -542 to Gosausee-543 to Hallstatt and Dachstein Visitor Center). It's very easy to make these changes as the bus stands next to each other.

I am a female solo traveler from India. I LOVE traveling to interesting destinations and exploring new countries. My channel is all about my journey to different traveling destinations around the globe. Come, join me on the ride!

Hallstatt ???????? Austria Tourist Guide

Hallstatt, Upper Austria, is a village in the Salzkammergut, a region in Austria. It is located near the Hallstätter See (a lake). At the 2001 census, it had 946 inhabitants. Alexander Scheutz has been mayor of Hallstatt since 2009.

Hallstatt is known for its production of salt, dating back to prehistoric times, and gave its name to the Hallstatt culture, a culture often linked to Celtic, Proto-Celtic, and pre-Illyrian peoples in Early Iron Age Europe, c.800--450 BC. Some of the earliest archaeological evidence for the Celts was found in Hallstatt. (from Wikipedia)
