Grand Canyon National Park Virtual Rim to River Run Down South Kaibab Trail 4k

x

Why Grand Canyon National Park restricted South Kaibab trail | South Kaibab to Bright Angel 4K HDR

The South Kaibab trail is one of the three rim to rim corridor trails, and as such is one of the most popular trails into the canyon. In this video, we'll hike down the south Kaibab trail, across the Tonto Trail, and then up the Bright Angel Trail while discussing how Grand Canyon National Park emergency rescue teams were overwhelmed in the 1990s and why access to the South Kaibab trailhead has been restricted for close to thirty years.

The internet and online culture are absolutely brimming with bucket list, must dos, and top 10 lists and so on. But could it be that those lists are not only sabotaging park visitors, leading to people delving too deep, and resulting in skyrocketing emergency incidents within the canyon? And might those rising emergency incidents result in more restrictions in the future?

Grand Canyon Rim to River Hike Guide

♥️ SAY THANKS:

The Grand Canyon “rim to river” hike from the South Rim to Colorado is the one hike that the NPS asks you not to do. Why? Beginning hikers underestimate the effort of hiking back up to the rim after enjoying a casual downhill to the river. I’ve written this guide to help experienced hikers who understand the challenges of the “rim to river,” and for those who are not experienced yet will do it anyway. This guide gives you all the information you need to do the hike safely if you are up to it and the conditions are right.

Grand Canyon Rim to Rim South Kaibab Trail

My brother invited me to hike the Grand Canyon from the south rim to the north rim. I obviously obliged to the invite as it has always been on my bucket list to visit Grand Canyon National Park. We decided to start on the South Rim and hike down the South Kaibab Trail. The views were unmatched and the elevation drop down to the Colorado River made for easy hiking. As we crossed the Colorado River and walked through Phantom Ranch I was thinking that we were almost done, but in reality we had a long ways to go.

After passing Cottonwood Campground and then Manzanita rest area, I continued to think that this hike was easy, but right after Manzanita rest area was when the hike really started to pick up. The elevation gain was sudden and it was a leg burner for sure.

This is one of those places that your school teachers show you pictures of when you were younger, they teach you about the natural wonders of the world and that is how it lives with you, as a memory of pictures that you saw in school. Anyone can visit the Grand Canyon and go to the North or South Rim to see the views. The views on the South Rim are expansive and very impressive, definitely something that I would recommend doing.

Huge thanks to my brother for organizing this trip.

Big thank you to Auntie Debbie's Meat Pies for not only subscribing to this channel but also for hooking us up with some meat pies before this trip! Check them out at their meat pies are delicious and you can even have them sent to you!

Grand Canyon South Rim to Rim Virtual Trail Guide (South Kaibab to Bright Angel)

I hiked the Grand Canyon South Rim to Rim, also known as the rim to river to rim, starting on the South Kaibab Trail and ending on the Bright Angel Trail. This was a fun yet strenuous day hike. I added on Plateau Point for a total of 20.5 miles + an additional 2.5 miles along the rim back to my car. with 5,000ft of elevation gain. This hike took place on a slightly smoky, breezy October day.

South Kaibab Trail to Skeleton Point in the Winter | Grand Canyon National Park (4K)

Day 3 at the Grand Canyon - this time hiking the South Kaibab Trail. Another icy, snowy trail with stunning views of the Grand Canyon and arguably my favorite trail of the trip. Along the way, I saw Ooh Aah Point, Cedar Ridge and then Skeleton Point (my turnaround point) before heading back up the canyon.

Grand Canyon: Bright Angel to South Kaibab Loop

Ice on the South Rim but hot sand at the bottom. That’s what happens when you drop 5,000 after stepping out of your car at the Grand Canyon. Bright Angel down to the Colorado and then back up the South Kaibab. It’s an awesome 20 mile loop if you can handle the toe jamming descent and calf cramping ascent.
