GRAND TARGHEE Ski Resort Wyoming Teton Mountains | Snowboard Traveler
Grand Targhee ski resort is a powder haven for skiers and snowboarders in Wyoming’s Teton mountains. Located on the opposite side of the Tetons from Jackson Hole, the resort flies under the radar but offers more than its well-known neighbor. It has more terrain, more powdery snow, and quieter slopes. The terrain is less technical though which caters mostly to intermediate riders and families who love shredding bowls, glades, and groomer runs. Advanced riders are not left out and some steep areas provide a worthy challenge.

Ep. 135: Grand Targhee | Wyoming skiing ski travel
Unlike many RV travelers we actually seek out snow in winter. We spend our winters skiing, and our regular viewers have begged us for a little bit of ski content this season, so this episode's for you.
Grand Targhee sits in Alta, Wyoming, in the shadow of the Grand Teton, but you can only get to it through the eastern Idaho town of Driggs. There are two lift-served ski resorts in the Tetons, and while Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village is the larger and more famous of the two, Targhee gets more snow and is far less busy than Jackson.
For the past 20 years our friend Camille has owned a condo right on Ski Hill Road, and we decided to make the four and a half-hour drive from Salt Lake City to Targhee to escape the skiing crowds of the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.

Grand Targhee vs. Jackson Hole
Most skiers and snowboarders talk about how good Jackson Hole Ski Resort in Wyoming is. Over the past few years it has also become a playground for the rich with prices to match! If you talk to locals in the area though, many prefer the less crowded and lesser well known Grand Targhee, which may be smaller in skiable acres, but has an annual snowfall much higher than the famed Jackson Hole. On this trip, I’ll show you both, you decide!

Hiking Freds Mountain from the Grand Targhee Resort!
Come with me as we take a ski lift to the summit of Freds Mountain and explore some of the hiking trails (Marmot and Mary's Saddle) and try to give you an idea of what to expect based on our experiences. The clips in this video were shot at the beginning of July, 2021.
To access this hike, you have to start at the Grand Targhee Resort, which is located in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest and is eight miles northwest of the Grand Teton. The Grand Targhee Resort is only accessible from the west side of the Teton Range, near Driggs, Idaho. There is a ski lift going to the summit of Freds Mountain, which is just under 10,000 feet in elevation. It averages over 500 inches (41.7 ft) of snowfall per season which ranks it among the top five ski resorts in North America. There are beautiful views of the Teton Range, with plenty of beautiful wildflowers and wildlife. There is also a lot of mountain bikers that frequent here, if you are into that.
