Moldova - the least visited and one of the poorest countries in Europe. A country most of us know nothing about. But we wanted to travel here and find out what the real Moldova is like, beyond the continuous negative news headlines in the west. So we booked a last minute flight from London to Romania and then crossed the border in to Moldova, where we travelled on to the capital Chisinau, to explore the country and try to learn more about this little known country on the edge of eastern Europe. I can't pretend this one went to plan. I'd hoped to spend longer here and explore a bit wider, but then I got an email from the airline...So join me on a quick wander around the streets of Chisinau on a Sunday in March 2023. TV reports had been beamed back home to the UK just a day before portraying a city of unrest and protest, so what would it be like as I step out onto the streets? Join me!

Moldova - the Poorest country in Europe. Moldova, a landlocked republic in eastern Europe, formerly a European soviet has remained impoverished 30 years after its independence. The authorities in the poorest country in Europe are worried about the rate specialized labor is leaving the country and lack of economic development. But why is Moldova the poorest country in Europe?
Please note that the facts presented here about why Moldova is the poorest country in Europe, are my personal opinion formed out of my own careful research about economic indications of countries throughout the world and comments of professionals around the globe. According to some estimates, some 25% percent of Moldovans are working abroad, making it the 11th highest in the world. Commenting on this saddening situation, Veaceslav Ionita, a Moldovan economist and prominent politician, once said: “Our people, our immigrants, most of them are now in the European Union western countries.” Dichotomizing the situation, Ionita added: “We have immigrants in Russia but it's more poor people, from rural areas, because it is easier to go to Russia, and usually for a short term. They go to Europe for the long term.

How Safe Is Moldova for Travel?

Moldova is a small country located in Eastern Europe, north of the Balkans, squeezed in between Romania to the southwest, across the Prut river, and Ukraine to the northeast.
Moldova doesn’t have a good reputation with tourists, and during the last decade it was famously called the ‘least happy place in the world’ in the bestseller The Geography of Bliss: One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World, and apart from that, it’s considered to be one of the poorest countries in Europe
Overall, Moldova is a relatively safe country to visit. Not too popular with visitors, it is a country where tourism is only starting to develop. Moldova has its issues concerning crime rates and organized crime, but it is mainly safe and if you apply the basic precaution measures, you will minimize the chances of something going wrong.

Travel Guide to Ukraine and Moldova
Quintessentially European, but refreshingly unsullied by the onslaught of mass tourism, Ukraine and Moldova provide us with two of the continent’s surprisingly little-known gems.
Ukraine, with its blue lakes and green hills can boast no fewer than seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the historic centre of Lviv, the wooden Tserkvas of the Carpathians and the cathedrals and monastic architecture of Kiev. The second largest country on the European continent, it was the birthplace of Russian Orthodoxy and has lain at the heart of the social changes that have beset this region for centuries. With a cultural pedigree that can trace its origins back to Byzantium and the Renaissance, its traditions and food span eons of influences that are just waiting to be discovered.
Sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine, Moldova is blessed with a climate that encourages year round tourism. Not an obvious destination for most tour operators, it is nonetheless blessed with some stunningly unspoiled charms. Its pride lies in its natural landscapes including Pădurea Domnească (the Royal Forest) and The Lower Prut (Prutul de Jos), but within this little slice of heaven you can also find ancient monasteries and historic forts, wineries that can justifiably hold their own with their French counterparts.
