Today, we are taking you to a fresh market only locals know about: Laiki Farmers’ Market. It is only open on Saturdays. We will be showing you the best Greek products you can try in the outdoor market, like honey, Kalamata olives, cherries and other amazing products grown in the south of Greece.

We're in Athens, Greece! In this 4 part series we're exploring Greece's capital city to hunt down the best local food. Today's it's all about Greek street food- we start off breakfast-ing like the locals. Greeks don't sit down to a huge breakfast normally, they're more an eat and run sort of lot. We grab some breakfast staples- a koulouri (a type of bread ring) and a Freddo espresso and Freddo cappuccino. Next up we snack on some fresh fried fish (sand smelt and cod) as we wander around Athens before tucking into some incredible souvlaki from a local's favourite. We finish with galaktoboureko- a mouthwatering pastry made from filo and semolina custard from a bakery that's been around since 1961. Hello again from ATHENS, Greece! In this episode, we are taking you for a local street food tour around the Central Market (Varvakios Central Market) in downtown Athens. Surrounding this market is a tons of traditional restaurants and street foods!
We are taking you to a secret underground restaurant called Diporto, where there is no menu; the chef serves you whatever fresh ingredients he’s prepared for the day. We are also taking you for coffee at a local institution: Mokka. Here, they make strong Greek coffee in hot sand. Next we will take you into the heart of the Central Market to show you the local seafood catches, and we’ll show you a traditional Ouzeri. Ouzeris serve ouzo and mezedes (small plates) which can be sourced directly from the market. These are really cool joints where you can eat super local food and chat with locals. For dessert, we are taking you to Krinos, for loukoumades served with honey, cinnamon and vanilla ice cream. To finish off the street food tour, we will take you for a full meal at Telis Steakhouse. This shop serves charcoal grilled pork chops and a delicious SPICY and grilled salad. What an incredible day of eating!

Today's plan is to sample all the Greek Street Food. We have come to Athens Flea Market and I know this seems like a bit of a strange place to be having street food but they have a lot of little stands and shops where you can get souvlaki, gyros, baklava. We're just planning to walk down the main road of the flea market and just peruse have a look around and see what we can sniff out and have a fantastic meal on the street. Now it is time for food. We ordered the Gyro and Souvlaki. Both of them in pitas. The meat is so juicy. Is it? Juicy and tender and it is like soaking the bread with its meaty juiciness. And then all of the freshness of the vegetables right? And the price was also wonderful. They were 2 Euros each.
We have moved on to a little something sweet now. It didn't take us long let me tell you. Well we got Greek Yogurt. And this is not just any Greek yogurt. This is this comes with some amazing toppings. Yes. It has got a super saturated amount of honey. It has walnuts and we also ordered dates as well.
We found a man who was selling nuts. Yes. And he was very friendly and animated. He was so friendly and passionate and also very generous allowing us to sample them.He let us try the nuts before we bought them. What a nice guy. We ended up getting a sweet one and a salty one. And then because we bought two packs he gave me a whole bunch extra in my hand. He was just like open your palm and he put a whole bunch of nuts.
Exciting moment over here. Trying my first Greek coffee. I somehow didn't manage to try Greek coffee the first time I was in Greece. I don't think I was drinking a lot of coffee a few years ago. No.
That is the only thing I can think of. We've found a cute little cafe here in the heart of the flea market so we thought let's sit down for a quick drink.
That is potent. Yeah, strong coffee? Potent, rich, strong.
Baklava. Better believe it. We've been having a lot of this here in Athens. Look at all of that syrup just oozing out. That honey.
Last but not least. We found some bread. It is reminiscent of a pretzel I would say. Apparently this is called Koulouri.
The lady said this was the most traditional of the ones that she was serving. It is a ring shaped piece of bread covered in toasted sesame seeds.
That concludes our Greek Street Food Tour here in Athens, Greece. We ate so many delicious street food items. And we'd love to know what are some other Greek street food items that you can try. Welcome to our Greek food tour! In this video, we'll be exploring some of Greece's most delicious and iconic dishes.

First up, we'll be trying some traditional Greek capers. Capers are the tiny, edible flower buds of the Capparis spinosa plant. They are native to the Mediterranean region and are commonly used as a seasoning in various cuisines, including Italian, Greek, and French.
Next, we'll be sampling some delicious sausages made with a blend of spices and herbs that give them their signature flavor. These sausages are a staple in Greek cuisine and can be found in various dishes.
We'll also try a classic Greek salad with ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, and feta cheese. This refreshing and flavorful salad is a staple in Greek cuisine and pairs well with various dishes.
We'll also try delicious Greek cheeses, including feta, Kayseri, and kefalotyri. These cheeses are made from sheep's or goat's milk and have a rich, tangy flavor.
After all that savory goodness, we'll take a break and enjoy traditional Greek coffee at a local coffee shop. This strong and aromatic coffee is an essential part of Greek culture and is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.
Next, we'll visit a local seafood market to sample some of Greece's freshest and most flavorful seafood. From succulent grilled octopus to plump mussels and juicy prawns, there's something for everyone here.
For a light and refreshing lunch, we'll try some delicious fruits, such as juicy figs, sweet melons, ripe apricots, and plums. The fruit in Greece is always fresh and bursting with flavor.
Finally, we'll try traditional Greek meat dishes, such as souvlaki and gyros. These dishes are made with marinated meats, grilled to perfection, and served with various toppings.
Throughout our tour, we'll also visit a spice shop to sample and learn about the spices and herbs that give Greek cuisine its distinct flavor. From oregano and thyme to cinnamon and allspice, these ingredients are essential to the delicious dishes we'll be trying.
