Hello again from ATHENS, Greece! In this episode, we are taking you for a local street food tour around the Central Market (Varvakios Central Market) in downtown Athens. Surrounding this market is a tons of traditional restaurants and street foods!
We are taking you to a secret underground restaurant called Diporto, where there is no menu; the chef serves you whatever fresh ingredients he’s prepared for the day. We are also taking you for coffee at a local institution: Mokka. Here, they make strong Greek coffee in hot sand. Next we will take you into the heart of the Central Market to show you the local seafood catches, and we’ll show you a traditional Ouzeri. Ouzeris serve ouzo and mezedes (small plates) which can be sourced directly from the market. These are really cool joints where you can eat super local food and chat with locals. For dessert, we are taking you to Krinos, for loukoumades served with honey, cinnamon and vanilla ice cream. To finish off the street food tour, we will take you for a full meal at Telis Steakhouse. This shop serves charcoal grilled pork chops and a delicious SPICY and grilled salad. What an incredible day of eating!

Greek food is honestly some of the best food you'll ever eat and the Greek capital has an incredible variety of different spots for you to try out. We spent a week in Athens eating all the delicious food it has to offer and we thought we'd share our top 10 restaurants in Athens that we enjoyed the most during our stay here. Welcome back to our Greek Street Food series! This is our last episode and in today’s video we are eating some of the BEST food we had in Greece. We are starting the day eating a spread of “mezedes” (Greek small plates). This includes smoked mackerel, dolma (stuffed grape leaves), and eggplant & zucchini in spicy Cappadocian sauce. To top it off, we tried their baklava and a candied carrot dessert.
Next, we are taking you across Athens to sample the food of Crete. Crete is Greece’s largest island and has its own cuisine. At I Kriti, we order Cretan style snails, apaki (smoked & salted pork), yemista (stuffed peppers) and dakos (Cretan salad with rusk). We also ordered their house wine which was awesome.
In between meals, we visited the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. It houses some of the most important Greek artifacts in the world. It was a beautiful place to explore and we recommend checking it out.
For dinner, we are back in downtown Athens for a traditional Greek meal. We tried kontosouvli (meat on a spit), a classic Greek salad and tsatziki. We were very full but so happy!

Greek FOOD in Athens - the ULTIMATE GYROS TOUR
Gyros, one of the world's best street foods!!! If you have been to Greece, then you have tried it - if you haven't been to Greece then you have heard of it; gyros is the worldwide popular Greek fast food dish and a staple in the Greek cuisine.
In general, gyros consist of juicy meat (pork or chicken) roasted on a rotating rotisserie, chopped flavorful tomatoes and onions, crispy fries and tzatziki sauce. These ingredients are wraped in a fluffy and warm pita bread, and eatan hand-held. Gyros can be found at both simple grills and fine-dining restaurants. Gyros is cheap, and thus the perfect option if you are on a budget. Prices are given in order to somewhat provide you with an answer to how expensive is Athens?

From the ultimate gyros to an insane Greek BBQ meat platter, today's Athens adventure is full of delicious Greek carnivorous goodness! We also continue exploring more of Athens as we learn Ancient Greek history at the National Archaeological Museum and soak up the sunset views at Mount Lycabettus! We finally end the day with some delicious Greek seafood at Atlantikos and indulge in Greek desserts at Nancy's Sweet Home.

The ULTIMATE 1 Day in ATHENS, GREECE - FOOD TOUR, Acropolis, Ancient Agora, & More Ruins!
We planned the ultimate 1 day in Athens! We didn't have much time in the city, so we tried to fit in as much as we could. We started our day at Acropolis Hill to see the Parthenon, and then walked around to many other neat ruin sites like the Ancient Agora of Athens. We even took a nice stroll through the National Garden.
Second half of the day was spent walking all around to the many different food spots we wanted to try. We fit in a lot of good food! But that doesn't even scratch the surface. Athens has so many more amazing food options we'd love to try.
Even though we didn't have long, we accomplished a lot and thoroughly enjoyed this historic city!

As a European street food mecca, Athens never disappoints. From sweet to savoury, early in the morning or late at night, the city offers endless options to taste Greek flavours on-the-go.
Grab your koulouri first thing in the morning. Our traditional sesame bread ring found on street vendors all around Athens.
Visit a pie shop to taste traditional Greek tiropita (creamy cheese pie), spanakopita (spinach-feta filo pie) and bougatsa made every day right on spot with much care and the freshest ingredients.
No visit in Athens would be complete without tasting the original souvlaki or gyro at a local street food joint. Chunks of pork or chicken wrapped in warm pita bread, juicy tomatoes and a dollop of tzatziki sauce made with Greek yogurt, our Greek delicacy made in heaven!
Don't leave without tasting peinirli – our delightful boat-shaped Greek pizza with a cheesy, buttery filling and traditional cold cuts on top.
