Gotland island, Sweden - travel guide with history and natural attractions
Gotland is Sweden's largest island, being located about 90 km east of the Swedish mainland and about 130 km from the Baltic states, Latvia being the nearest. Visby is by far the most populated locality in Gotland. Gotland is one of Sweden's most noted tourist destinations. In this video I presented a short history of the island of Gotland, with a travel guide, including the natural landscape and the best places to visit.

Welcome to today's episode where we take you to a magical island called Gotland. This is Sweden's largest island and is in between the Baltic Sea. This island is very strategically located with access to Mainland Europe, Nordics and the Baltic countries. The island has a great history and some of the most monumental architectures and personalities shaping Sweden. There are also very bizzare natural formations across the island but more prominent in the northern part in the Fårö.

From Oskarshamn we boarded our car on the Destination Gotland Ferry (You can book ticket in advance from their website)

Heading to Gotland: Sweden´s largest island: Ferry, Visby & cliff side picnic
In this travel video from Sweden I bring you along on our adventures when heading to Gotland (Sweden´s largest island). We take the three hour long ferry ride from Oskarshamn to Visby, the capital city of Gotland. Upon arrival we explore the beautiful old town of Visby. We spot the iconic Pippi Longstocking house in Kneippbyn, before having our picnic dinner on the cliffs of Södra Hällarna nature reserve. We finish off the day by driving to our cozy tiny house AirBnb in Roma.

This is the last day of our Gotland tour. We checkout from Kneippbyn resort in the morning as we have ferry back to Stockholm at 17:00. We have rented car so we keep our luggage in car and will explore Old town of Visby.
Visby is the only medieval city in Scandinavia and such an amazing old town with so much history, from the old city walls and the incredible architecture to amazing restaurants and places.
In this vlog, we have walked around the old town of Visby. We have seen the old historical Visby Cathedral, Drotten Church & S:t Lawrence Church ruin.

This is my first cinematic travel video. It was filmed on the Island of Gotland in Sweden. Gotland is an island very different from the rest of Sweden. It has a more mediterranean feel and environment than a Swedish one. Gotland has long beaches, dry plain landscapes, large rock formations, Medieval ruins and old farming and fishing houses. Some of the locations I filmed at are Slite, Fårö, Visby, Langhammar and Sudersand.

Gotland is Sweden's largest island. It also is a province, county, municipality, and diocese. The province includes the islands of Fårö and Gotska Sandön to the north, as well as the Karlsö Islands (Lilla and Stora) to the west. From sea stacks (Raukar, in Swedish) in the north to the west side’s chalk cliffs to the east coast’s white sand beaches, Gotland differs markedly from the granitic craton that forms most of the rest of Sweden. In this video you can see the famous place Hoburgen in the south of Gotland were there are many sea stacks.
Gotland is the biggest island of the Baltic sea, situated roughly 60 miles off the coast of southern mainland Sweden. Almost 60 000 people live year round on the island, a number that changes dramatically during the summer as Gotland is one of Sweden’s most popular summer destinations. Beautiful beaches, rich history and a welcoming climate (Gotland is usually one of the sunniest places in Sweden) contribute to the island’s popularity. The almost 100 churches of Gotland are a main attraction for tourists.
The island's main sources of income are agriculture, food processing, tourism, information technology services, design, and some heavy industry such as concrete production from locally mined limestone. From a military viewpoint, it occupies a strategic location in the Baltic sea. As of 2018 the Gotland Regiment has been re-raised and it is the first time since World War II that a new regiment has been established in Sweden.
Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman lived and died on Fårö and several of his films were filmed there.

Having heard nothing but great things about Sweden's baltic island Gotland, I knew I had to get down there when the time was right. After meeting my friend Simon while working the winter season in Åre, we made it a mission to meet up for four days so he could show me around the incredible island that he grew up on.
Medieval vibes, stunning beaches and a unique landscape await those that make the venture out. Don't sleep on this island! Actually... Yes, GO sleep on this island!

Road trip to Gotland, Sweden's largest island.
The town of Visby is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its medieval ramparts.
Fårö is is known for its raukar, limestone formations with strange shapes, the most emblematic of which are at Gamle Hamn and Langhammars. This type of formation is also present in Gotland.
The landscape is really different from mainland Sweden: there are no typical red houses or pine forests with little lakes, but fields of red poppies and windmills.
