[4K] Historic Pleasure Pier in Galveston Island, Texas USA - Walking Tour & Travel Guide ????

It's the Santa Monica Pier of the South! The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier was originally built as a recreational facility for the United States military during World War II. In the 1940's, it was transformed into the Galveston Pleasure Pier. The new pier complex is located where the original Pleasure Pier stood from 1943 until 1961, when it was destroyed by Hurricane Carla. It was also the site of the USS Flagship Hotel, an over-the-water hotel built in 1965 that was demolished after Hurricane Ike in 2008. Renovation began in 2011 as an amusement park then reopened in 2012.

Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier is a seaside amusement park in eastern Texas. Owned by Landry's (who also owns the nearby Kemah Boardwalk), this park is built onto a pier extending out over Galveston Bay. This compact park has an amazing atmosphere. And it has the most rides of any amusement park in the Houston area. This includes the Iron Shark roller coaster and several flat rides. Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier is a pleasure pier in Galveston, Texas, United States. Opened in the summer of 2012, it has 1 roller coaster, 15 rides, carnival games and souvenir shops.

Galveston is a coastal resort city and port off the Southeast Texas coast on Galveston Island and Pelican Island in the U.S. state of Texas. The community of 209.3 square miles (542 km2), with a population of 47,743 in 2010, is the county seat of surrounding Galveston County and second-largest municipality in the county. It is also within the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area at its southern end on the northwestern coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

Iron Shark is a custom-designed Euro-Fighter by German company Gerstlauer. The roller coaster stands 100 feet (30 m) above the pier with some parts of the roller coaster standing over the Gulf of Mexico. The ride features four inversions.
The ride begins with a 180° turn out of the station. It then's proceed up a 100-foot (30 m) vertical lift hill. After peaking the hill, the ride enters into a beyond vertical drop. The train then enters an Immelmann loop followed by a dive loop. A short stretch of high speed curves lead the train into a banana roll followed by a vertical loop. This returns the train to the station.

It might be one of the smallest Euro-fighters ever built due to its pier location, but this Gerstlauer custom coaster sure does pack quite a punch. It's also one of the smoothest Euro-fighters and (best of all) features lap bars instead of over-the-shoulder-restraints.

Texas Star Flyer on-ride HD POV Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier

Amusements General Manager Mike Martorella explains why these Funtime Star Flyers are so safe before we soar some 230 feet over Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier and the Gulf of Mexico. Although we rode the world's tallest star flyer at Six Flags Over Texas earlier the same week, it didn't offer the thrill that this one does in spite of the 170 foot difference.
