Full Episode: Classic Luxury and Dazzling Design | Open House TV

Join Open House host Sara Gore for brand new tours of beautiful homes in New York and California.

We kick off this episode with Sara Story, an interior designer and author of ‘The Heart of Home' Sara Story, at her private New York City residence. This gorgeous townhouse, which overlooks Gramercy Park, is a long-term labor of love for Sara and her family. Originally constructed in the 1800s, this renovated abode features a parlor-level dining room that greets you upon walking through the door and is perfect for hosting large dinner parties; a living room with intricate crown molding, marble fireplace, and captivating architectural details; a sitting-room that features custom furniture and lovely floral wallpaper by Josef Frank; a modern eat-in kitchen complete with a large rustic table, lacquered Chinese hat chairs, and ceiling saturated in color; and eclectic art and décor pieces (such as whimsical crystal chandeliers, grasshopper-shaped wicker tables, and a plush Brazilian sofa that she paired with a Moroccan rug) that captures her personal aesthetic and natural proclivity toward travel — all while paying homage to the home’s interesting past.

We then zip over to the West Coast to explore a high-end estate dubbed Allure that’s located in the Mandeville Canyon area of Los Angeles and offers relaxation, privacy, and extraordinary amenities amidst California’s natural beauty. Designed and developed by Ramtin Ray Nosrati, this sprawling 7-bedroom residence boasts 14,000 square feet of luxurious modern living. From the custom moss wall with a stunning skylight to the family room with a dual-sided fireplace — and from the sleek bar space with a 14-ft stone island to the to the professional-sized Michael Jordan-themed basketball court — this home certainly packs a wow factor at every turn.

Next: interior designer Courtney McLeod shows us how she creates subtle visual interest by using a muted palette mixed with versatile textures, as she walks viewers through a recently completed 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo in NYC's Financial District. See how she established a cohesive design identity in this Park Row home — that is equal parts urbane, sophisticated, and modern to reflect the sweeping views of old New York and 21st century New York right outside the windows — by incorporating her client's favorite color in the foyer, installing a ceiling light fixture in the primary bedroom with an angular shape that is reminiscent of the decorative ones in the carpet and casts a soft romantic glow; and adorning the living and entertaining spaces with a curated collection of complementary curved pieces, including: a coffee table with a chagrin finish that also functions as art; a custom dining set that features brass details; and a sofa in the living room that's upholstered with the same fabric as the area rug.

After that, we're back on the West Coast to enjoy a piece of classic Hollywood with Los Angeles interior designer Karan Brady, who shows Open House around of her recent projects: a Beverly Hills home built in 1941 that is a Paul R. Williams design and has since been revamped with interesting design touches to give it an elevated feel and complement the original architectural details (such as the beams in the living room). Located at 9555 Heather Rd in Beverly Hills, CA, this vast residence boasts 9 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, and 15505 square feet full of thoughtful updates and curated decor, including: Ralph Lauren furniture mixed with flea markets finds such as a wooden jug from Paris; a luxurious chandelier imported from Italy; a dark-brown private office with white shutters and a wet bar; an inviting primary suite at the top of the stairs that's reminiscent of an English country estate with its soft textures and ample throw pillows; and an outdoor area with lots of entertaining spaces, including a tennis court, golf hole, bowling alley, Koi pond, and guest house.

We top off the episode with with architect Kristen Becker in a bespoke multi-storey California home nestled in the Hollywood Hills. Becker that she designed for creative couple Mia Sara and Brian Henson of 'Muppets' fame. This contemporary residence, that proved to be a beautiful challenge in the sense that it was built on a very steep hill, draws inspiration from both medieval castles and industrial architecture in its dramatic, yet welcoming and playful interiors. The result is a highly considered design with a modest footprint — all while being zen-like, sun-lit, and refined; a representation of a regal living space that feels private yet still perched out into the quintessential natural landscape.

Full episode: Designed Luxury in 4 Exquisite Homes | Open House TV

Join Open House host Sara Gore for a tour of four breathtaking homes in New York and California that are filled with modern elegance, curated collections, and bespoke luxury.

First up: Welcome to the epitome of opulence and grandeur in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Jason Saft, a professional stager, takes #OpenHouseTV on a tour of 18 Prospect Park West: a five-story Gilded Age mansion that's conveniently located right across from Prospect Park and boasts over 9,000 square feet of exquisite architectural details, historic millwork, and old-world charm — including a limestone facade, stately wrought iron gate, and a Parisian-style canopy fashioned out of bronze and glass. So what inspired the design of each room in this gorgeous townhouse? Saft says the home's extraordinary character and original ornate touches — including beautiful ceiling moulding throughout — provided him with room to get creative while honoring the integrity of the space through curved bouclé sofas that mimic the pattern in the ceiling and a verdant rug that plays off the residence's proximity to the park and the onyx in the fireplace.

We then travel to Los Angeles where Martyn Lawrence Bullard, an interior designer who's worked with celebrities such as Cher and wrote the recently published book 'Star Style,' invites into his stunning 1920s villa that was built in the heart of Hollywood and exudes an ambiance of luxury, intrigue, and Mediterranean charm. Bullard originally designed the home for Craig Kilborn about 20 years ago, but upon purchasing the property for himself, he decided to infuse his own personal style in a way that provides flow, sparkle, and inspirational elements of surprise. One of the ways he achieved this was by installing metal frame windows, adding lighting fixtures made out of bronze and horse hair for a moment of unconventional flair, and commissioning an artist to paint a section of the ceiling in an intricate tile print (as seen on the magnificent fireplace) for a bit of Moroccan flavor.

Next, interior designer Vanessa DeLeon invites Open House viewers along for a tour of her latest project: a Parisian-inspired apartment on 5th Avenue. This New York City apartment is a complete gut renovation and one of the first things that DeLeon did was to completely open the space to fill it with more natural light and flow. From the new foyer with its textured gold-leafed wallpaper making a design statement as soon as you walk through the door to the show-stopping kitchen with its black-and-gold range, gold double-sided hood, waterfall edge countertops, and fixtures reminiscent of a Parisian bistro, this home is full of charm, style, and unexpected touches.

We wrap up this episode of Open House with a trip to the West Coast to join Alison Palevsky, an interior designer based in Santa Monica, California, for a look around a house in the Pacific Palisades that she and her team designed from the ground up that's pattern rich and a lovely showcase of both style and function. See how she turned this open floor space into a vibrant home full of natural light and visual interest through a mix of sustainable materials and an aesthetic that combines vintage and contemporary pieces.

Full Episode: Luxury Homes with Designer Flourish | Open House TV

Kicking things off at a stunning corner duplex in in the iconic Plaza Hotel, Open House host Sara Gore takes us on a tour of 5 exquisite homes that teem with style and personality.

We first journey to Williamsburg to visit with artist and designer Sean McNanney, founder of Saved New York in the West Village. What Sean (a passionate collector of ceramics, especially Robert Lehman) enjoys most about design is creating a story using materials and textures that contain a traceable history and invoke a poetic feeling. And his warm Brooklyn railroad-style apartment features a a lifetime of collected art, furnishings, and eclectic pieces (including Turkish turquoise parrot trinkets). From the original floors layered with 19th century carpets to the dining room adorned with overhead lamps embroidered by hand and a quilt he worked on with his grandmother when he was little to the kitchen that serves as a scrapbook for culinary exploration and sweet touches (including a portrait of his family and his great-grandmother's fancy dishes, and an original built-in that's jazzed up with 19th century papier-mâché trays), this home is haven of creativity and memories.

Next up: we drop by 25325 Prado De La Felicidad in Calabasas, CA to join Marcy Roth for a tour of a sprawling estate. The first thing you notice upon entering this impressive Mediterranean-style abode, is the volume and height of the soaring ceilings — along with dueling spiral staircases — that create the drama of a grand entrance and set the stage for all the timeless elegance and state-of-the-art luxuries that await inside. Standout moments include: a formal step-down living room with a bar crafted from a porcelain slab and custom brass accents; the wine tasting room that was constructed from biblical stone (aka cobblestone directly from the Holy Land) that dates back over 2000 years and is adorned with a Roman stone ceiling featuring hand-painted frescoes; a masterpiece kitchen that showcases Italian onyx countertops & dual islands; a billiard room with leather walls, an ornate chandelier that hangs over the pool table, and custom dark woodwork; and a backyard where an infinity swimming pool, fire pit, and 700 sq.ft. putting green await. Overall, with its captivating hillside views & meticulous attention to detail, this property offer the epitome of upscale living.

After, we zip over to a rejuvenated Soho loft in NYC designed by interior designer Alvin Wayne. So how do you revamp an old-school apartment to not only feel fresh and unique — but also design-savvy AND family-friendly? Not an easy task, but Alvin was more than up for the creative challenge of bringing a blank living space to life with a deft use of interesting colors, repeating patterns, and eye-catching art. Key inspirational moments include: a 60ft foyer that expands front to back and includes a mirror to reflect light, giant paper lanterns for an ethereal touch, and rounded arch that softens the room and frames the home nicely as they lead to the two (yes, TWO!) living areas (one for the family to enjoy television together and the other for more intimate gatherings); a transformed kitchen that features tile in a similar aesthetic to a fireplace and leans in to an industrial aesthetic with a rolling cart, open floating shelves that display art his clients decided to not include in the main living area, and a charming breakfast nook with an antique church pew and distressed metal table; and a lounge for music listening with low marvelous seating, different shades of blue for visual interest, and a coffee table comprised of metal legs, acrylic, and a glass top.

We head back to Los Angeles to join interior designer Nicole Sassaman for a look around one of her recent projects: a home for 'Ocean's 8' Hollywood producer Susan Ekins, who purchased the property from Anne Hathaway. See how Nicole added playful touches with just the right amount of glamour to create a home that is stylish yet comfortable. From the movie sign that welcomes you into the main living space — which also features fun plays on pink and a light fixture with crystals that serves as a unique take on the old Sputnik light — to a countryside-inspired kitchen with a farm sink, chicken wire cabinetry, farmhouse table, and large windows with an open exposure that leads to an outdoor forest, to a dedicated nook that displays a variety of movie mementos + highlights from Susan's amazing career (including props from Karate Kid & Ocean's 8), this home is effortless and personable to the max.

Las, we visit Weehawken, New Jersey to join Kesha Franklin, principal of Halden Interiors, for a look around her client’s riverfront abode. See how she mixed artifacts and objects from all over Africa with works by her clients favorite African-American artists, all while adding texture and pattern throughout. Add to that, statement lighting and comfortable furnishings and the result is a dramatic home that’s as worldly as it is welcoming.

HOME TOURS: Classic Luxury Meets Personalized Beauty | Open House TV

Join host Sara Gore for a tour of 5 exquisite homes in New York and California in this full episode of NBC's Open House.

First up: 823 Park Avenue, Apt. 5. Maria Manuche of The Manuche Team shows viewers around a quintessential pre-war apartment located on the Upper East Side. Spanning over 4100 sq ft on the fifth floor of a Park Avenue condominium, this classic abode boasts distinctive architectural details and luxurious amenities, including: a double-sized living room; coffered ceilings; mahogany windows; a private elevator vestibule; an eat-in kitchen with a cozy breakfast nook; an intimate corner library with a gas-burning fireplace framed by a marble mantle; a great room that is the epitome of understated elegance; and several exposures with beautiful garden views, as well as the tree-lined NYC cityscape right outside.

Next: Peek into a classic townhouse in Bed-Stuy that has been reimagined into a modern dream home that honors the architectural integrity while also infusing a fresh personal perspective — complete with fluted details, soft textures, and a specific color palette of pale oak and London fog. Architects Jess Hinshaw and Andrea Fisk, principals of Shapeless Studio, walk us through this beautiful Brooklyn home that features a blend of historic woodwork with clean, contemporary details and functional design throughout (such as the arched doorways that are referential to the rounded chairs in the kitchen and the custom cabinetry with the hidden integrated handles). Between embracing highlights like the original staircase that greets you upon stepping through the main entryway and implementing some unique touches of their own (including a low-profile marble coffee table and golden sofa that faces the focal fireplace in the living room, and a skylight installed directly over the shower to help flood the primary bathroom with ample sun) — this talented design duo created a space that’s warm, contemporary, inviting, and conducive to socializing and hosting family dinners.

After that, we zip over to the West Coast where real estate partners (and siblings) Samantha and Claire O’Connor take viewers on a tour of 12221 Benmore Terrace — a serene luxury estate in Brentwood, California that was originally designed by renowned architect A. Quincy Jones and spans nearly 1 acre of land. Nestled within a private gated compound, this gorgeous 6-bedroom residence teems with clean lines and natural light; and seamlessly blends a relaxing bucolic aesthetic (which includes an outdoor sauna, lush greenery, and your very own cascading 40ft waterfall) with contemporary L.A. style and midcentury architecture.

We then return to NYC where architect Valerie Schweitzer invites us into her apartment located on the Upper West Side that centers on three design principles: daylighting, contrast, and sensuality. This updated pre-war residence celebrates her love of literature, multi-layered textiles, and pops of color as is showcased in the art that adorns each room. Additionally, this lovely home features a mix of furniture that ranges from contemporary streamlined pieces to mid-century modern to antiques that she and her mother would search for in the Cotswolds of England. From the ebony white-veined marble and metal iron works that exude a historical 16th century Italian vibe to the intimate dining room with its rich cobalt palette that envelops you in a medley of colors, and industrial white oak table that juxtaposes the soft organic pale green curtains — and from the functional office with its floating bamboo shelves & resilient cork floors to the Jane Eyre-themed kitchen with its glass cabinets and checkered black-and-white marble floor — this Riverside Drive live/work residence is a playful symphony of personal design, fun twists, and unique touches meant to inspire conversation and intrigue.

We top off the episode by talking height and light with Cullen Washington Jr. takes us on a tour of his sky-high Long Island City apartment, which is a reflection of his life's work and features 12-ft ceilings, show-stopping furniture, and stunning design details — as well as ample spaces to create. As an artist and educator, his abstract art impacts the way he styles and personalizes his modern home. To Washington, art influences the atmosphere and charges the environment, which is evident through every inch of his residence which not only showcases his transcendent large and mid-scaled creations but also a curated book collection, muted color palette, clean lines, leather pieces with African accents, and a midcentury modern aesthetic.
