The Salmon Forest | Tongass National Forest - Alaska Nature Documentary

The Salmon Forest is a 30-minute documentary film that explores the connection between
wild salmon and life in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the United States.

The film follows Alaskan salmon on their epic migration from the streams of the forest to the ocean and back, revealing the various lives they impact along the way.
Pull in a huge catch with commercial fishermen, explore the breathtaking landscapes that draw in millions, watch as a mother bear lunges into a stream to feed her cubs, visit a native Tlingit community to better understand salmon’s cultural significance, and meet the people who work day and night to ensure this public resource is protected for generations to come.
Filmed in stunning high definition, The Salmon Forest highlights one of the last healthy homes for salmon on Earth, and provokes a deeper understanding of this complex and beautiful ecosystem.

Ultimately, this film celebrates the unique role public lands play in salmon production and reminds us that proper management is vital to sustain the future of commercial fisheries, subsistence, recreation, and our forests. Panama Fishing Tuna Frenzy Madness!

Experience an amazing day of Yellowfin Tuna feeding frenzies with us at Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge!!

June 1, 2015 about 5 miles from Isla Montuosa, on our boat the TOP Cat, we came across a massive area of Porpoises and Yellowfin Tunas that had a few different kinds of bait fish balled up and were feeding on them at the surface. Watch as I filmed three different frenzies we came across that afternoon and hooked up into some nice fish! Crazy action as we run up right next to the boil on purpose....to get our baits on top of the fish as soon as possible. The Tunas here do not tend to be skiddish late in the season and it is no problem running the boat right close to the feed. What an experience! Only in Panama!!!

This Guy Can Hold His Breath For 13 Minutes (Philippines)

I traveled to the Philippines' most remote (and dangerous) island called Tawi Tawi, in search of the Badjao (Bajau) Tribe -- who can hold their breath for up to 13 minutes while free diving. Guys - I have been coming to the Philippines for the last 8 years and I've traveled to more than 50 Filipino islands - but I'm telling you that nothing compares to what I experienced in Tawi Tawi.

The Badjao (Bajau) people are so kind and genuine, despite not even having a Jollibee in their community (it's hard to find this around the country!). I hope you enjoy watching this story and I welcome any of your comments or questions in the comments below!

Also, in case you were wondering, I found multiple sources online showing that the Badjaos (Bajaus) can hold their breath for up to 13 minutes, including a National Geographic article which you can also search for on Google. It's incredibly impressive and the Badjaos (Bajaus) are true superhumans!

Thanks for watching and I'll see you guys next week with more stories in the Philippines!

Handbuilt Wooden fishing boats off the coast of Zanzibar, Africa

The BBC recently had a series of specials on the oceans of Earth. These clips come from the coastal waters of the Indian ocean, specifically off the inland side of the island of Zanzibar. I put these videos together with windows movie maker 2.6 (what a piece of junk) but it gets the idea across. What amazes me is that the boats are built completely by hand from local woods, using no power tools at all. Hand-powered drills, wooden planking held together with iron stakes, hand saws, all put together just a few feet from the water. The fishing boats under the waterline show a very similar hull shape to that of a british pilot cutter, but with a crab-claw rig, which is more traditionally polynesian than african.

Solomon's Stolen Fish

Tuna stocks in the Pacific Ocean are under serious threat from overfishing by foreign industrial fishing fleets. The Solomon Islands - as one of the countries affected - is planning to take the control over these resources in their own hands.
