First Thoughts on Romania | Romania's Most Dangerous Hammock

Welcome to Romania everybody - this is our first time in this country and we have planned a week long road trip through some of the more untouched and beautiful parts of this country.

Check out Vlad and Georgina from Romanian Thrills:

After leaving Kazakhstan at 3am in the morning we arrived in Bucharest - there we were picked up by our guides Vlad and Georgina and we instantly hit the road.

Our first stop was the cute town of Horezu where they do unique pottery designs - especially how they paint the plates - using a cows horn and a birds feather.

As we slowly made our way out to our hotel, we saw some small villages, ancient monastery and Jess tried water from a 200 year old well.

By now the jet lag had officially kicked in by the time we arrived at our hotel, so after a slow morning the adventures began the next day.

We rock climbed a 200 meter cliff side and after the intense hike we went into one of the most dangerous hammocks in the world - and just hung out.

Once we made our way down we went for a dip in a fresh stream and found our new love - Papanasi - the Romanian Cheese Doughnuts and wow we have found our new favorite desert.

After checking out a rainbow Forrest art exhibit we headed to our next hotel - with some slight spooky vibes.

First hotel we stayed at - Hanul Vutra:
Second hotel - Boutique Hotel Danielescu:

We’re so excited to finally be in Romania. This our first time in the country and we’re starting our time here in the capital city of Bucharest. Looking for things to do? We go you covered :)

We begin the video by checking out some green space in the city, a beautiful park called Cișmigiu Gardens. While here we visit the pond (which is empty), see some interesting ducks and swans and take a walk around.

Afterwards we head over to one of the main and most touristy areas of the city, the Old Town. Bucharest isn’t known as being the most beautiful city in Europe but the Old town has the old city charm with older buildings and cobblestone streets. While here we take you into our hotel (New Era Hotel) to check out our room and our awesome view.

Later we head to one of the most famous buildings in Bucharest, the Palace of Parliament. It happens to be the second biggest administrative buildings in the world (after the Pentagon). We didn’t go inside but checked it out from the road.

Lastly we did one of our favourite things, went to find some craft beer! We’d been in Turkey for awhile where it was difficult to find craft beer so we were really excited to find it in Bucharest. We went to a place called Zaganu.

ABOUT BUCHAREST
Bucharest, in southern Romania, is the country's capital and commercial center. Its iconic landmark is the massive, communist-era Palatul Parlamentului government building, which has 1,100 rooms. Nearby, the historic Lipscani district is home to an energetic nightlife scene as well as tiny Eastern Orthodox Stavropoleos Church and 15th-century Curtea Veche Palace, where Prince Vlad III (“The Impaler”) once ruled.

ABOUT ROMANIA
Romania is a southeastern European country known for the forested region of Transylvania, ringed by the Carpathian Mountains. Its preserved medieval towns include Sighişoara, and there are many fortified churches and castles, notably clifftop Bran Castle, long associated with the Dracula legend. Bucharest, the country’s capital, is the site of the gigantic, Communist-era Palatul Parlamentului government building.

ROMANIA'S HIDDEN GEMS | This is why you should visit Romania!

Today we are exploring some of Romania's hidden gems! Join us as we continue on our road trip and visit a UNESCO fortified medieval church, Rupea fortress, and a lake hidden near an inactive volcano.

Our first stop of the day was at the perfectly preserved medieval church in Viscri. This church is set in a quaint, rural village which gives you a true taste of Romanian life. We definitely recommend braving the rickety stairs and taking in the gorgeous views from the top of the church, it's worth it!

We then visited one of the oldest settlements in Romania, Rupea Fortress. This fortress is set high above the town and offers beautiful panoramic views of the Transylvanian countryside. It is a great stop if you are traveling the road between Brasov and Sighisoara.

To end the day, we stopped at Emerald Lake for a quick swim. We were lucky enough to have great sun on our visit and we got to experience the emerald green color of the lake. On days when isn't so sunny you might experience a duller color. It was a great last stop because the water was super refreshing and the surrounding area was very quiet and peaceful with only a handful of visitors.

Thanks for watching! We would love for you to like, comment, and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

This Side of Romania No One Shows You

Today's episode here in Romania is extra special as it's a side of this country not many people show you. Rather than heading up to Corvins castle straight from Bucharest instead we headed south...to the Serbian border.

After seeing the Danube in three other countries, we thought the Romanian countryside would be the perfect spot to actually take a boat trip on it for the first time.
We saw
- Veterani Cave
- Trajan's Bridge
- Rock Sculpture of Decebalus
- Roman Tablet

Next stop we decided to take an hour hike 350 meters above the Danube to see the best views of the boilers.

That evening we arrived at our accommodation - the cutest little beach huts with the best views in all of Romania.

Where we stayed: Dream Tricule - Danube's Boilers

After awaking at sunrise in the morning we then headed out to a beautiful national park - Nera Gorges National Park to hike through the forests, see waterfalls and go for a cheeky little dip.

We then ended our day at Casa Thea with Dada the goat, some local Romania food and some fresh juice.

Romania's Best Kept Secret. No one shows you this side of the country ???????? Sighisoara Transylvania

We’re getting back into our Romania series. This week we’re in one of the most amazing medieval towns we’ve ever visited - Sighișoara which is in Transylvania.

Note: This was filmed long before the pandemic.

We spend the day exploring the old town (upper town) or old Citadel of Sighișoara. Sighișoara has a bunch of historic towers situated around the citadel and each represents one of the founding guilds. We see a few of them as we walk around town.

We also head up even further to get the best views over the town. There is a covered staircase which takes you up to the very top of the town. Here you’ll find schools, an old church and a graveyard.

We then take a lunch break where we each have a traditional sour soup from Transylvania (called Ciorba).

We head to the main clock tower of the town. On your way to the top you can visit the various exhibits of the museum which tells the history of the town. Once up there you’ll have an amazing view of the old town.

Lastly we take you on a quick tour of our awesome Airbnb!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ROMANIA

What is Bucharest, Romania like?! This is our first time in Romania and we headed to the city centre to explore...⇩⇩Click ‘show more’⇩⇩

This was our first week in Bucharest and already we feel so excited to call this place home for the next month. Bucharest is known as “The Little Paris of the East” and we can definitely see why. The architecture here is really interesting. Aside from beautiful places to walk the city itself is affordable and has easy access to transport.

The locals here are friendly and we found the language interesting as it has a lot of similarities to Portuguese, Spanish and Italian. We are excited to get to know more about Bucharesti and its locals.

Incredible ROMANIAN Road Trip | Visiting Brasov, Rasnov, and the world’s largest bear sanctuary!

Welcome back to our Romanian road trip series! Today we are back on the road and visiting Brasov, Rasnov, and the world's largest bear sanctuary!

Our first stop of the day is at Libearty Bear Sanctuary, the world's largest bear sanctuary. The tour began with a heartbreaking short video explaining why this sanctuary was started and their future goals. Romania is home to 60 percent of Europe’s brown bear population and Libearty has rescued over 130 bears from an abusive life in small cages. Many of them were kept behind bars near restaurants, hotels, and gas stations as tourist attractions. Most of these bears are unable to return to the wilderness because they have spent their entire life in captivity. It was a sad and eye opening tour but definitely a place worth supporting!

We continued on to visit Rasnov Fortress. It is set high on the hilltop above the quaint town of Rasnov. The fortress has a great medieval feel and also offers a funicular ride to get up the very steep hill.

Since our Airbnb was located in Brasov, we decided to explore it at the end of the day after we had checked in. Brasov is an incredibly charming and historical city. We would say it is an excellent place to base yourself when you visit the Transylvanian region!

Thanks for watching! We would love for you to like, comment, and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

THE GREATEST DRIVING ROAD IN THE WORLD - TRANSFAGARASAN | ROMANIA

We drove on the greatest driving road in the world, the Transfagarasan Highway, in Romania!

The Transfagarasan Highway is Romania's most striking and well known road in the country. It is a huge draw for tourists whenever it is open from June to October. At the highways highest point, 2042 m, there is a beautiful lake and many vendors selling food and souvenirs. The lake is a great stop for beautiful views, taking photos, and grabbing some delicious treats. The drive is not very long but if you're like us, not wanting to miss a moment, it might just take all day!

We hope to see you back next week for another video in our Romania series! Thanks for watching and if you enjoyed this video please like, comment, and SUBSCRIBE!

Hello and welcome to Romania, I'm Jake from Holiday Extras Travel Guides and I'm here with Tom (Hello!) who's from our social team - he runs all of our social media platforms - and we're out here in Romania to shoot some lovely content for our Facebook page and everything like that and we just thought we'd give you a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like for us here on shoot so we're going to take you with us we're spending two days here shooting lots of lovely content and... yeah!(Let's see what we can see!) Yeah!

Day 1 of our trip in Romania and what we've got planned today is a lovely little sort of mini one-day castle tour and we're going to be heading to Peles Castle which is about an hour away from where we're staying then onto... ooh Rasnov Fortress and then Bran Castle from there Bran Castle is the one that's famous for having inspired Dracula whichI can't wait to see should be really really cool. Can sort of hear farm equipment and kids and stuff in the background of where we're staying there are some cows in the fields as well literally just off the balcony which is amazing very relaxing way to wake up I think. Feel very connected to nature. And the black coffee is helping as well, so. See you in a bit!

Hello! So we've just arrived at the beautiful Peles Castle which I think you can see in the background there along with dear Tom. Took us about an hour's drive to get here from where we were staying but it was a beautiful drive and the landscape was crazy. Hm suppose you can't see past the tree line but we're right in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains where
this is based and it's beautiful.

All finished up Peles Castle and now we're gonna head off to Rasnov Fortress which is about another hour's drive away but here's a quick Jake and Tom tip for you. This pathway up the to
the castle is cobbled and there are a fair few cobbles missing so I would say make sure you pack some lovely walking shoes to make it nice and easy.

So here we are on our way up the little forest path to Rasnov Fortress - Took about an hour to get here from Peles Castle which I've already said but still it was a lovely drive I really would recommend getting a hire car because the landscape here in Romania is insane and then you can do stuff like drive out to a castle that's an hour away! So. I'll see you at the top this roads getting quite steep as you can probably hear I'm already a little bit out of breath and See you when we're up there!

So here we are at the top of Rasnov Fortress and I don't know if you can see that but the view is absolutely stunning. It's brilliant.

So as you walk - we're inside Rasnov Fortress now as you walk through it not only is there stunning views in every single direction but it's also full of these like original structures as well some of which are really broken down and some others have sort of been restored and being used for tourist shops it's just really cool. To see such piece of history.

So we're on our way back down now from the top of the castle and it was stunning. I can't recommend it enough. The views of like the surrounding forest and mountains and then Rasnov down below was just crazy. Absolutely do it. And now we're gonna head to Bran Castle - hopefully catch ourselves a lovely sunset.

Here's another Jake and Tom tip - we're heading back down and this lovely little walk we showed you before but there is actually like a tractor that can take you up the hill if you don't want to do it. The walk is only about 10 minutes, but it is super steep so no shame in getting the tractor up here and it only costs about 5 Romanian lei (about that yeah) which is about like 1 pound, if that. So it's well worth it if you want to save yourself the trouble, save a bit of time.

So after a bit of a mess finding parking we're here at Castle Bran. Parking was really reasonable it's only 4 lei an hour so we've got plenty time to chill out. The Sun's setting there is a lovely garden here just outside Castle Bran which we're taking the opportunity to chill out in, its nice little water features you know it's just really nice it's good chance - good to get a chance - to unwind after such a busy day.

I Flew to Romania for my Russian Visa!

Two weeks before my flights in and out of Russia, I realized that I needed a tourist visa to enter the country. For some reason I thought Romanians were exempt from needing a visa but I was very wrong. The visa center in Paris where I was said it would take (4-5 weeks?) to process but when I called the visa center in Bucharest, they said 2 days. So I bought a last minute flight to Bucharest to hopefully get my Russian visa in time. Wish me luck!

This cat called to me while my back was turned and working on my PC. I motioned for him to come and then in a flash he was on lap, and then standing on my lap and nuzzling my face. Not only the people in the villages of Maramures are friendly but the cats as well.
