There are 4 ferry services that will take you from Allen to Matnog, Sorsogon and vice-versa. These are: (1) Fast Cat which is stationed in Dapdap Port, (2) Starlite Ferries based on Balwharteco Port, (3) Sta. Clara Shipping, has a separate port in Jubasan, Allen, and (4) Montenegro Shipping in Balwharteco port.

Allen is a 5th class municipality in the province of Northern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 25,469 people. It is located on the northwestern tip of the province, bordering the municipality of Victoria to the south, the municipality of Lavezares to the east, and the strategic San Bernardino Strait to both the north and west.

Allen is an important port for inter-island transport, specifically between the island of Samar and the island of Luzon. It serves as an important transit point, connecting Samar and other islands with Luzon. It is opposite the Luzon transit point in the municipality of Matnog, Sorsogon. The primary modes of transport are the inter-island bus route via the Maharlika Highway, and the ferry crossing the San Bernardino Strait. Its location as a transit point makes it a future 'transitropolitan' area in the country.

We rode in M/V Reina Urduja of Montenegro Shipping Lines for our ferry ride from Matnog, Sorsogon to Allen, Northern Samar. It took us 1 1/2 hour travel ride. The sea was calm.

It was named in the honor of General Henry Watkins Allen. The first post office of the area was established in the 1870s. Port Allen was originally incorporated as a village on March 22, 1916. Port Allen became a town on March 14, 1923.
