FAGATOGO MARKET | FAGATOGO FISH MARKET | Shopping Local, Fresh, and Sustainable in American Samoa

Wondering where to go for fresh and local food while in AMERICAN SAMOA?

This week we're taking you with us to check out the FAGATOGO MARKET.

We ended up going three times while making this video, to show you the experiences of going on different days and at different times.

Saturday morning is actually rather quiet, which surprised us. The first Friday of every month is usually very busy, with food venders and entertainment, but ever since the COVID-19 restrictions, it's been a quieter affair, but still with some delicious food venders. It turns out that Friday mornings are the time to come if you're looking for fresh produce and sea food, with the Fagatogo Fish Market open only on Friday mornings.

Let us know if you've been to the MARKET and what your experience was like.

And as always, THANK-YOU so much for being here, watching our videos and supporting our adventures.

Let us know where you do your grocery shopping in American Samoa or which place you'd like to try. Thanks again for watching! Tofa Soifua!

Another in our series of COST OF LIVING videos, we're bringing you around the island of Tutuila, to show you a variety of places to shop for clothes, as well as other basic needs. While this is not an exhaustive list of shopping locations, it's a realistic look at what you can find on-island and how much you can expect to spend.

THE OLD PAGO PAGO TRAIL | NATIONAL PARK OF AMERICAN SAMOA | BLUESKY COMMUNICATIONS SPONSORSHIP

We found a new trail!!

Our friends at the National Park of American Samoa have been hard at work, maintaining the existing hiking trails and clearing new trails too.

Today we're showing you The Old Pago Pago Trail. We started at the same trailhead as the Mount Alava Trail, but instead of taking the path most taken, we opted instead for the narrow, steep, and challenging path that meets back up with the main Mount Alava Trail.

This alternate route is about 0.7 miles long (one-way) and includes ropes, natural root steps, and a beautifully visible star mound (tia seu lupe).

We want to thank our sponsors- Bluesky Communications for their continued support of our channel and our island. We wouldn't be able to bring you these videos without their reliable services. Make sure to check out their services, devices, and accessories, including their IOT products.

We're Making Progress Fixing Our Used Sailboat? | SV Odyle Update | Rotten Wood, Slow Shipping,

Some days it feels like we're almost ready to move onto our 47-foot used sailboat, just to come across another problem. Then it feels like that day will never come.

While some of the problems we're facing are unexpected, they're rarely a surprise. We knew that buying a sailboat that's almost 50 years old would lead to LOTS of projects and that's exactly right. lol

The important thing is to recognize the wins, leave the failures behind, and keep moving forward.

Soon enough we'll be ready to move onto our floating home and set sail.

Thanks again for joining us on this adventure called life! Let us know if you would aver be crazy enough to take on a challenge like this.

A DAY IN MY LIFE | WORK-AT-HOME MOM IN AMERICAN SAMOA

What do you do all day? What do you do for work?

I've heard that first question since I decided to stay home with my first baby, instead of going back to work.

Now, I get this second question from lots of people who watch our channel.

I wear many hats on any given day- mom, wife, creator, writer, photographer, videographer, entrepreneur, runner, friend, volunteer, etc. This is your chance to get a sneak peak into the life of this work-at-home mom, living on the tiny island of American Samoa.

This video is different from our videos and we're interested to know how you liked it. Let us know in the comments below or with a thumbs up/thumbs down.

SPEARFISHING ON A DRIFT DIVE from FATUMAFUTI to FAGA'ALU | HOW WE COOK FRESH FISH ON OUR SAILBOAT

Lots of people have been asking Nate to make a video showing him spearfishing and one of his favorite ways to do this is on a drift dive (where he just lets the currents carry him along from one beach to another, from Fatumafuti to Faga'alu in this case).

Nate had a fun time and he was able to catch a parrotfish, which is my FAVORITE fish that you can find in these Samoan waters!

So, once Nate's adventure was over, I took the fish home and cooked it up for lunch. While I don't do the usual Samoan way of cooking fish, I cooked it the way I always have- in the oven. Watch as I make up a simple, yet delicious lunch from local fish and fresh, local salad from Tutuila Green. I wish I could have shared it with you... except that it was so yummy, I was happy to eat it all.
