Tasman Glacier Explorers Tour (Aoraki/Mt Cook) in Winter - NZ Road Trip

An amazing encounter with New Zealand's largest glacier, the Tasman Glacier. Explore and learn about the ever-changing glacial landscape as our journey across the terminal lake in the custom-built MAC Boats with our experienced guides. Icebergs of every shape and size periodically tear away from the face of the glacier into the rapidly growing lake. Lateral moraines rear up almost 200m to remind us of the scale and greatness that the glacier has reached in previous times.

With the effects of global warming and other climatic processes taking their toll on New Zealand glaciers, their retreat is imminent. Now approximately 27km long and 600m deep, the Tasman Glacier is melting and calving at an exponentially increasing rate. In recent years the Tasman Glacier has changed from a 'melting' to a 'calving and melting' terminus, resulting in a terminal lake that is rapidly increasing in size.

Heli-Hiking on the Tasman Glacier in Mt Cook – New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – BackpackerGuide.NZ

Day 193: Today we are arriving in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park and the first thing we are doing to heli-hiking on the Tasman Glacier with Mt Cook Glacier Guiding! Join us for this epic Mt Cook heli hike!

Yesterday - Day 192 ➜

Tomorrow – Day 194 ➜

30 Tips for Backpacking in New Zealand ➜

-- About this video --

Today is our first day in Aoraki Mt Cook! We head straight to the Mt Cook Airport because our first activity in Mt Cook is heli-hiking on the Tasman Glacier!

We join Mt Cook Glacier Guiding who equip us with all the gear, guide and a helicopter and we enjoy a 12 minute scenic flight to the Tasman Glacier. Heli-hiking in Mt Cook is an awesome option for a glacier heli-hike in New Zealand to explore New Zealand’s longest glacier and visit a less crowded glacier.

This New Zealand glacier heli hike takes us across the unusual and magnificent landscape of the Tasman Glacier along with its ice caves, crevasses and more. We spend about 2 hours on the glacier in this glacier heli hike in New Zealand.

So what do you think about this heli hike on the Tasman Glacier? Would you add it to your Mt Cook travel itinerary? LUK in the comments!

The Surreal World of Mount Cook - New Zealand

I have been at Mt.Cook Village for last 48 hours and its been so unreal. Tall mountains all around me and uninvited cold breeze, yellow barren land, everything makes it so unreal. There are so many options to hike here in Mt.Cook. Many tourists come here every day just for hiking. New Zealand is one unreal country, for sure.
Love NZ - newzealand.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE SUN MAKES!! | Lake Tekapo & Mt Cook, New Zealand

Today we took off to Lake Tekapo on a very cloudy morning! But alas, the sun burnt through the clouds and revealed an unbelievable sight! We also decided to drive half way to MT Cook to make sure we could snap some pics on such a clear and sunny day!

My Favorite New Zealand Hike - Hooker Valley in Mt Cook

Apologies for some of the shaky footage in today's video! Staying outside of the Mt. Cook National Park in Twizel, I drove in before sunrise to hike the Hooker Valley Track which ends at the glacier and glacial pond. This has become one of my favorite hikes, with beautiful views throughout the very easy trail!

Aoraki Mt Cook after Heavy Snow, Hermitage Hotel, New Zealand

This video is about our trip to Mt Cook back in May 2014. We stayed at Hermitage Hotel for 2 nights. We stranded in the hotel for the whole day due to the heavy storm. Luckily the sun came out on our last day there...it was so beautiful there after snow.

Scenic Drive to Mt Cook Trip July 2015 - New Zealand

Our trip to Mt Cook from Queenstown. We passed by:
- Kawarau River Look Out
- Gold Field Mining at Cromwell
- Tarras (where the famous Shrek super big sheep once lived)
- Lindis Pass
- Lake Pukaki
And finally arrived at Mt Cook / Aoraki (Hermitage Hotel)
It's supposed to be a 3.5 hours, but because we stopped here and there we almost spent 5 hours driving one way :) And on the way back home it was a dark driving :)

Also few footage from Wakatipu Grill at Hilton, Fergburger, and Flame bar all at Queenstown..
Thank God it was a perfect bright and sunny weather!
