Botswana Overland Safari | Savuti to Kasane, in the Okavango Delta | Episode 5

In this final episode of the Okavango Delta Overland Series, we pack up at the beautiful Savuti camp and start to make our way across the Chobe National Park towards Kasane.
This trip involves navigating through some really thick sandy roads, exiting Chobe at the Ghoha gate, crossing the Forest Reserve and then re-entering at the Ngoma gate. The drive along the river provides magnificent views of the Chobe river itself, and we are spoilt with beautiful sightings of Kudu, Impala, Giraffe, Zebra, Elephant, Baboon and Buffalo.
We eventually make our way into Kasane where we check into Chobe Safari Lodge for two nights - and explore the river on a sunset cruise, go tiger fishing and go on a final self drive safari to try and find the famous but elusive prides of Chobe Lions.

As our journey through this magnificent country comes to an end, we make our way back to Francistown from Kasane, and prepare for the long drive back to Johannesburg in South Africa, with one big goal in mind…to think about, and plan the next adventure!

Overlanding BOTSWANA | Okavango Delta & the Moremi Game Reserve | Adventure In the Wet season | Ep1

Overlanding BOTSWANA | Okavango Delta & The Moremi Game Reserve | Adventure In the Wet Season

The Okavango Delta is Africa's Garden of Eden. It's a place filled with mystery at every corner, an adventurer's paradise, and a wildlife haven. This is a destination that we continually find ourselves wanting to go back to. And in this episode, we make the excuse to off-road adventure travel this amazing place.

Overlanding in Botswana and adventure traveling in the month of February to the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana, isn't alwyas advised when the rain is falling. But, ol Ed and I pack up and make this 18 day adventure one to remember.

We visit, Woodlands Lodge and bush campsites, make a stop at Nata Bird Sanctuary just outside of Nata town, spend a night at Planet Baobab, and then, finally, we make it to the Moremi where we spend our first night at South gate, Maqwee campsites in the wilds of Botswana. Waking up the following day we make the drive through mud and water to Third bridge, in the NW of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. This is a specail place to wild camp, and we are in our absolute element with widlife sightings and the bush at their best.

What an offroad adventure expedition, and a big shout out to the ladies from the Xomae group for assisting us with campsite bookings both in the Moremi and the Nxai Pan National Parks.

This adventure supported by Lacie, Indeflate, and Cross Country Insurance from the financial consultants Netsure.

Thank you to:

In September 2022, Francois van der Westhuizen and I travelled through Botswana for two weeks, covering nearly 4000 kilometers! We started off at the Khama Rhino Sanctuary before heading for Maun, where we stocked up for an epic adventure in the Khwai Community north of Moremi Game Reserve.

We camped at Magotho Campsite in Khwai for a full nine days, giving ourselves an excellent chance of seeing lots of game. I was looking for a very specific leopard - the Magotho female's cub - who I had seen as a tiny cub the year before.

In this episode, the first in a 3-part series, Francois and I explore the roads around Magotho and have excellent sightings of both leopards and lions.

Botswana - Episode 3 Tshaa Camp Khwai to North Gate Moremi :Almost drowning the Amarok

???? Exploring Tshaa: Unforgettable Morning Views! ????

#TshaaAdventure #WildlifeSafari #BotswanaTravel

Join us on an unforgettable adventure as we wake up in the beautiful Tshaa region of Botswana! ???????? The morning breeze and breathtaking views set the perfect tone for our day. ????

We started our day with a gourmet breakfast prepared by the talented Ilze and Nico, truly a delicious treat! ????☕

Our journey took an exciting turn as we decided to take the road less traveled towards our next destination near North Gate. ???????? And let me tell you, the Khwai area had some surprises in store for us!

As we ventured into the wilderness, the Land Cruiser faced a little hiccup getting stuck in the loose sand, but our team quickly came to the rescue with some expert maneuvering and a winch. ????????

We encountered herds of elephants at every corner, with adorable baby elephants stealing the show. ????❤️ Hippos, Water Buck, Lechwe, and even a rare Wild Dog made our wildlife sightings incredibly special. ????????????
Lunchtime was a brief pause before embarking on one of the most scenic drives we've had in a long time. ???? And then, we faced a thrilling challenge: a water crossing! ????????

With safety as our priority, Jaco, SJ, and Nico carefully assessed the water's depth. We attached a safety rope to the Cruiser's winch and ventured into the water. Everything went smoothly until we hit a ditch, but quick thinking and teamwork saved the day! ????????

Afterward, we made our way to North Gate, an iconic landmark in the region. We successfully crossed it, celebrating our achievement. ????
Arriving at the Reserve, we paid the Park fees, which turned out to be a bit surprising, costing more than our camping fees. Be sure to budget for approximately P250 per person and P50 per vehicle. For our group of 3 couples, 3 cars, and a caravan, it totalled P2990. ????????

Our day ended with a warm welcome from a resident elephant, grazing near our campsite. As we wind down from the day's excitement, Michelle and SJ are preparing a true South African braai (barbecue) for the evening. ????????????All this while having some wild visitors in camp.

We made sure to call our loved ones back home to let them know we're safe. What an incredible day! We feel truly blessed to experience these moments and create lasting memories. ????????

Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more thrilling adventures from our journey in Botswana! ????✨

This is the second episode in the Botswana Trip 2022 video series. In the previous episode, Francois van der Westhuizen and I spent four days exploring Khwai’s Magotho region and we had amazing leopard and lion sightings. In this episode we drive back to Maun to pick up our wifes, Tabby and Steph, and along the way spot two packs of wild dogs.

We return to Magotho campsite in Khwai for another five days and have some of the best elephant sightings of the whole trip. We also spend an unforgettable morning exploring the Mbudi River on Mokoros and end our trip with a helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta, which included a Champagne stop in the middle of nowhere!

In the next episode we drive down to Botswana’s largest and wildest game reserve, the Central Kalahari, where we spend three nights at Deception Valley.

Suzuki Jimny - Camping at Khwai | Adventure to Botswana - Part 3

In April 2021 we took our Gen 3 Suzuki Jimny on an epic adventure across Botswana. With our route plan done by Ultimate Routes we spent 30 days exploring the most beautiful and wild places we have ever experienced.

In Part 3, we travel to Khwai Mogoto Camp along the Khwai River which is nestled between the Moremi and Chobe National Parks and spend 5 days exploring up the incredible Okavango.

A full rig walk around is coming soon!
(here is a quick description)

Interior & overlanding gear upgrades to Jimnothy were done by African Sky Adventure Company - This includes our battery system, fridge, extra lights, awning, strengthened and serviced our Front Runner Roof Rack, refitted our roof top tent to accommodate two jerrycans and had previously fitted the Front Runner under roof rack table kit, the drop down tailgate prep table, and the African Sky interior roof storage net.

Mechanical upgrades to Jimnothy were done in 2020 Zombie Offroad - This includes 50 mm Des Sol 4x4 Adventure Hardware lift kit, supplied with Gabriel HDP Shocks, the Zombie Offroad steering damper, as well as the extended brake lines, EBC Brake pads, and 32 mm wheel spacers.

We also upgraded our tyres to the 215/75 R15 General Grabber AT3 at BestDrive specifically for Botswana

The Okavango Delta Moremi Game Reserve Overlanding Adventure. ROAM Overlanding 2022 Dry Season Ep1

The Okavango Delta is a global Overlanding destination, it's an area of the world packed with unbelievable amounts of biodiversity and is a dream for many to come and explore. The typical way to explore is through a self drive safari, so we packed our rigs and head for the border where we would be spending 3 weeks exploring eveywhere between Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Magotho, and Savuti in the Chobe National Park. This was sure to be an amazing expedition! We begin our journey in Nata at the Nata Lodge, before heading to Maun for a couple days at Audi Camp to gather ourselves and resupply before heading into the Okavango Delta it's self with a helicopter flight over the Delta, we then head to camp in Moremi, at the famous Third Bridge where we would camp a couple evenings in rooftoptents, listening to the wild sounds of the animals; Lions, Elephants, Hippo's, Hyena's and more. The following morning we head out to game drive the Mboma loop, and take a boat on the channels of the Okavango delta its self. This is where we would get charged by a Hippo in our boat, which certain shook things up for us a bit! The next day we head to Xakanaka to on our way out of the park, en route to Khwai Magotho.

I recently had the privilege of visiting Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana's Northern Tuli Game Reserve for five nights with my wife, Tabby, and my good friends, Francois and Steph. During that time, we not only visited all four of Mashatu's beautiful camps, but we also explored all of the reserve's most scenic and game-rich areas, including a visit to the world famous Photo Mashatu underground hide.

This is the first episode in a series of five about our adventure in Mashatu Game Reserve and basically gives you an overview of the reserve. I discuss the game viewing opportunities, the landscape and how the seasons differ. By the end of the video, you'll have a great idea of what Mashatu Game Reserve looks like, what you can expect to see there and when you should go on safari.

In the upcoming four videos, episodes 2-5, we visit Mashatu's four camps: Tuli Safari Lodge Mashatu, Mashatu Lodge, Mashatu Tent Camp and Mashatu Euphorbia Villas. Those videos also document our adventure, including all our amazing sightings, so I recommend that you watch all five videos in sequence.

Mabuasehube in Botswana produces a remarkable Overlanding Adventure

After a very tough journey from Nossob to Mabuasehube, we get the opportunity to explore, once again, the wonders of Botswana. We stay 2 nights at Motopi Pan and 4 nights at Khiding pan.

We recall some fantastic sightings that we've had in the past at Mabua, which includes night sound of Brown Hyena dominance behavior and lions that took over Lesholoaga Camp the entire day.

We get to see some fantastic cats, 3 cheetah sightings and a send off from Mabuasehube by a male lion at Mpaya pan.

As we make our way back to the Nosson river we soon realise that what we are going to miss the most about Mabua is the night and morning sounds of the birds waking up.

Hope you enjoy!
