LIVE: SpaceX/Crew-6 Mission - Falcon 9 Rocket Launch to the International Space Station

Coverage of the Launch of the SpaceX/NASA Crew-6 Mission to the International
Space Station (Launch is scheduled for 12:34 a.m. EST on March 2)

Managers from NASA and SpaceX, along with international partners, met throughout the day Tuesday as part of the mission’s Flight Readiness Review (FRR) in preparation for the sixth crew rotation mission with SpaceX to the microgravity laboratory. The FRR focused on the preparedness of SpaceX’s crew transportation system, the space station, and its international partners to support the flight, as well as the certification of flight readiness.

The Crew-6 launch will carry two NASA astronauts, Mission Commander Stephen Bowen and Pilot Warren “Woody” Hoburg, along with UAE (United Arab Emirates) astronaut Sultan Alneyadi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, who will serve as mission specialists, to the space station for a science expedition mission. They will fly aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft Endeavour, carried by the company’s Falcon 9 rocket.

Crew-6 will spend up to six months at the space station before returning to Earth. The mission marks the fourth spaceflight for Bowen, who flew space shuttle missions STS-126 in 2008, STS-132 in 2010, and STS-133 in 2011. Crew-6 will be the first spaceflight for Hoburg, Alneyadi, and Fedyaev.

Starlink Mission

On Tuesday, August 9 at 10:14 p.m. ET, SpaceX launched 52 Starlink satellites from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

This was the third flight for the Falcon 9 first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously launched SES-22 and now two Starlink missions.

SpaceX's Falcon 9, Feel The Heat Launch Viewing @Kennedy Space Center

Here is a thrilling experience, watching the liftoff of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, boosting two Americans and two Saudi astronauts toward the International Space Station on 5/21/2023 at the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando.

The four-person crew strapped into their seats on SpaceX’s Dragon Freedom spacecraft around 3 p.m. 5/21/2023, then ground teams evacuated the pad to allow SpaceX to start loading liquid propellants into the Falcon 9 rocket shortly after 5 p.m.

The 215-foot-tall (65-meter) Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 5:37:09 p.m. SpaceX dodged a risk of anvil clouds from nearby thunderstorms that threatened to violate the Falcon 9’s weather criteria.

With the on-time launch, the spacecraft docked at the space station’s Harmony module at 9:24 a.m. Monday to begin an ten-day stay at the complex.

There is nothing quite like it to watch a rocket launch from a viewing platform just a narrow strait of water away. The countdown to liftoff began with the flash of fire as the rocket engines ignited. Seconds later, the rocket soared overhead and the rumble of the engines becomes a roar that vibrates through the landscape.

Crew Dragon Launch

On the afternoon of May 30th, SpaceX is slated to launch its very first passengers to space, potentially heralding a new era of human spaceflight for the United States. It’ll be the first time in nearly a decade that people have launched to orbit from American soil.

The launch is historic in part because it ends a nearly 10-yearlong U.S. dependency on Russia for seats to space. It also marks the first time Elon Musk's private space firm, SpaceX, is launching astronauts.

Behnken and Hurley were among the first astronauts to begin working and training on SpaceX’s next-generation human space vehicle and were selected for their extensive test pilot and flight experience, including several missions on the space shuttle.

Behnken will be the joint operations commander for the mission, responsible for activities such as rendezvous, docking and undocking, as well as Demo-2 activities while the spacecraft is docked to the space station. He was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2000 and has completed two space shuttle flights. Behnken flew STS-123 in March 2008 and STS-130 in February 2010, and he performed three spacewalks during each mission. Born in St. Anne, Missouri, he has bachelor’s degrees in physics and mechanical engineering from Washington University and earned a master’s and doctorate in mechanical engineering from California Institute of Technology. Before joining NASA, Behnken was a flight test engineer with the U.S. Air Force.

Hurley will be the spacecraft commander for Demo-2, responsible for activities such as launch, landing and recovery. He was selected as an astronaut in 2000 and has completed two spaceflights. Hurley served as pilot and lead robotics operator for both STS‐127 in July 2009 and STS‐135, the final space shuttle mission, in July 2011. The New York native was born in Endicott but considers Apalachin his hometown. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Tulane University in Louisiana and graduated from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School in Maryland. Before joining NASA, he was a fighter pilot and test pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Space X Falcon 9 Launch (Starlink Mission)

A fantastic view of Falcon 9 lifting off into the sky and making the darkness of the night into bright day. It is the first launch of 2020 from the Cape (I guess so) and the rocket was carrying the Starlink Satellites.

Two Humans And One Dinosaur Went To Space SpaceX

Earlier on Saturday, May 31, Elon Musk's Space X made history by becoming the first commercial company to launch a rocket (Falcon 9) carrying humans into the orbit.

However, Netizens noticed the presence of a third crew member in their spacecraft which was a shimmery, plush stuffed dinosaur. The video of this dinosaur floating in the Falcon's capsule has taken the internet by surprise.

But if you're wondering, what that stuffed dino was doing in space and envying his stars for escaping Earth and 2020, welcome to the club.

But after a bit of research, we discovered that the toy acted as a 'zero-g indicator'. This means that this adorable dino has a huge role to play. When it started floating around the capsule, dino indicated to the crew members that they had reached zero gravity.

However, there was a heartfelt story behind picking this stuffed dinosaur. Both astronauts Behnken and Hurley have a son, each and both of their boys are dinosaur enthusiasts.

Spectacular 4K/UHD SpaceX Falcon 9 launch plume V23176

To the surprise of many, a spectacular event filled the southwestern sky tonight as a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was launched from Vandenberg Air Force base at 5:27pm Pacific Standard Time. These dusk launches can be quite a sight, and this event was no exception. For those of us that knew it was coming it was a great show. For anyone caught by surprise it may have looked like a Nuke from North Korea! Fortunately this rocket was only carrying 10 Iridium satellites, which are part of a new 75-satellite network that will provide massive global bandwidth for mobile communications as well as other functions (such as tracking aircraft and ships at sea to help avoid collisions, etc.).

Images were filmed with a tripod-mounted Canon 5D Mk2 using a 17-40mm f/4.0L lens and 4-second exposures at ISO 800.
