Foreigner Rides Puerto Rico Pork Highway ????????

In Puerto Rico, a lechonera is a temple of pork. The prep starts early. 6-7 hours before the first patron, secret seasonings are rubbed, pigs are put on spits, embers are tended to. I drove to my lechonera through some winding mountain roads, getting hopelessly lost on the way with no GPS. Every person knew how to get there except me of course. I rolled in, the thick smoke of sofrito tinted air, morcilla coming off the grill and thunderous bangs of machete slicing through cracking skin and hitting the chopping block. It was a full-blown carnival of lechón asado. I sat, I ate and it was perfect.

When people from another country tell me what they miss from home, they usually say something like “it’s just not the same”. I’ve heard that about lechón, and now I get it.

The best food in San Juan Puerto Rico! There is so much great food in Puerto Rico that it is hard to enjoy then all in one long weekend. In this food guide to Puerto Rico, we share our favorite foods in San Juan and our favorite places to eat in the San Juan area. Our Puerto Rican food vlog start in Liquillo where we eat some of the best fried food in Puerto Rico and drink our favorite drink of the entire Puerto Rico vacation at the Mojito Lab. Then we will share the best place to eat street food in Puerto Rico , Pinones. The Pinones street food scene and culture are legendary and it is our favorite place to eat on the Island. Almost everything is fried, and our biggest two travel food tips for eating street food in Puerto Rico are to eats one of everything and to have them cook it fresh to order, especially the outstanding seafood dishes.
We eat at several great restaurants in and around Old San Juan, including San Juan/s best Bakery , Kasalta , as well as the birthplace of the Pina Colada, Barrachina . Kasalta is a large, great bakery frequented by celebrities and even Obama. The Puerto Rican coffee here was so good and the Puerto Rican Pastries were outstanding. We had Red Snapper at Barrachina and some Pastelis. Make sure you enjoy Arroz con Gandules , tostones, Maduros , Rellenos de Papa , Mofongo , Bacalaitos , Empanadillas , Alcapurria , and the many types of pastries with a side of the famous Puerto Rican coffee. Drink a Pina Colada or two pina coladas , the official drink of Puerto Rico , cool down with some refreshing limbers, and make sure you stop by La Factoria for some of the best coctails in Puerto Rico at the favorite bar of Fonsi , where they filmed Despacito . We share the secret location of La Factoria and where to find it in Old San Juan
